Deuteronomio 29

1 Estas son las Palabras del Pacto que Yavé mandó a Moisés que celebrara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del Pacto que estableció con ellos en Horeb.

These are the words of the covenant that the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant He had made with them at Horeb.

2 Moisés convocó a todo Israel y les dijo: Ustedes vieron todo lo que Yavé hizo ante sus ojos en la tierra de Egipto, a Faraón, a todos sus esclavos y a toda su tierra,

Moses summoned all Israel and proclaimed to them, “You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials, and to all his land.

3 las grandes pruebas que vieron sus ojos, las señales y los grandes prodigios.

You saw with your own eyes the great trials, and those miraculous signs and wonders.

4 Pero hasta hoy Yavé no les dio corazón para entender, ni ojos para mirar, ni oídos para escuchar.

Yet to this day the LORD has not given you a mind to understand, eyes to see, or ears to hear.

5 Yo los conduje por el desierto 40 años. Sus ropas no se desgastaron sobre ustedes, y su sandalia no se desgastó en su pie.

For forty years I led you in the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out.

6 No comieron pan, ni bebieron vino ni licor, para que sepan que Yo soy Yavé su ʼElohim.

You ate no bread and drank no wine or strong drink, so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.

7 Cuando llegaron a este lugar, Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, salieron contra nosotros para luchar, y los derrotamos.

When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out against us in battle, but we defeated them.

8 Tomamos su tierra y la dimos como heredad a Rubén, Gad, y la media tribu de Manasés.

We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

9 Así que guarden las Palabras de este Pacto y practíquenlas para que prosperen en todo lo que hagan.

So keep and follow the words of this covenant, that you may prosper in all you do.

10 Hoy todos ustedes están delante de Yavé su ʼElohim: los jefes de sus tribus, ancianos, oficiales y todos los hombres de Israel,

All of you are standing today before the LORD your God—you leaders of tribes, elders, officials, and all the men of Israel,

11 sus pequeños y esposas, y el extranjero que está dentro de su campamento, desde el leñador hasta el aguador,

your children and wives, and the foreigners in your camps who cut your wood and draw your water—

12 para que entres en el Pacto con Yavé tu ʼElohim, y en su juramento que Yavé tu ʼElohim hace hoy contigo,

so that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD your God, which He is making with you today, and into His oath,

13 para confirmarte hoy como pueblo suyo, y que Él sea tu ʼElohim tal como te habló a ti y como juró a tus antepasados: Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

and so that He may establish you today as His people, and He may be your God as He promised you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

14 No solo con ustedes hago este Pacto y este juramento.

I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you,

15 Ciertamente lo hago con los que están aquí con nosotros hoy en presencia de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim y también con los que no están aquí con nosotros hoy.

but also with those who are standing here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God, as well as with those who are not here today.

16 Porque ustedes saben cómo estuvimos en la tierra de Egipto, cómo pasamos en medio de las naciones por las cuales pasaron,

For you yourselves know how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we passed through the nations on the way here.

17 y vieron sus repugnancias y sus ídolos de palo, piedra, plata y oro que tienen consigo.

You saw the abominations and idols among them made of wood and stone, of silver and gold.

18 No sea que esté entre ustedes un hombre o una mujer, una familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim para ir a servir a los ʼelohim de esas naciones. No sea que esté entre ustedes una raíz que produzca hiel y ajenjo,

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Make sure there is no root among you that bears such poisonous and bitter fruit,

19 y suceda que al oír las palabras de esta imprecación, se congratule en su corazón y diga: Tendré paz, aunque ande en la obstinación de mi corazón, para destruir lo regado con lo seco.

because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself, saying, ‘I will have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my own heart.’ This will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.

20 Yavé no estará dispuesto a perdonarlo, sino la ira de Yavé y su celo arderán contra aquel hombre. Todas las maldiciones escritas en este rollo caerán sobre él, y Yavé borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.

The LORD will never be willing to forgive him. Instead, His anger and jealousy will burn against that man, and every curse written in this book will fall upon him. The LORD will blot out his name from under heaven

21 Yavé lo apartará para mal de entre todas las tribus de Israel conforme a todas las maldiciones del Pacto escrito en el rollo de esta Ley.

and single him out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law.

22 De manera que cuando la generación venidera de sus hijos que se levanten después de ustedes y los extranjeros que lleguen de tierras lejanas, al ver las plagas de esa tierra y las enfermedades con las cuales la aflija Yavé, digan:

Then the generation to come—your sons who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant land—will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the LORD has inflicted on it.

23 ¡Toda su tierra está quemada con azufre y sal! ¡No hay siembra ni germinación! ¡El pasto no crece en ella, como en la destrucción de Sodoma y Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim, que Yavé destruyó en su ira y en su furor!

All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown and unproductive, with no plant growing on it, just like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in His fierce anger.

24 Todas las naciones dirán: ¿Por qué Yavé trató así a esta tierra? ¿Qué significa el ardor de esta enorme ira?

So all the nations will ask, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land? Why this great outburst of anger?’

25 Se les responderá: Porque abandonaron el Pacto de Yavé, el ʼElohim de sus antepasados, que Él hizo con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,

And the people will answer, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.

26 fueron y sirvieron a otros ʼelohim y se inclinaron ante ellos, ʼelohim que no conocieron, los cuales Él no les asignó.

They went and served other gods, and they worshiped gods they had not known—gods that the LORD had not given to them.

27 Por eso la ira de Yavé ardió contra esta tierra para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este rollo,

Therefore the anger of the LORD burned against this land, and He brought upon it every curse written in this book.

28 y con ira, furor y gran indignación, Yavé los desarraigó de su propia tierra y los echó en otra tierra, como se ve hoy.

The LORD uprooted them from their land in His anger, rage, and great wrath, and He cast them into another land, where they are today.’

29 Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Yavé nuestro ʼElohim, pero las reveladas son para nosotros y nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta Ley.

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.
