Deuteronomio 2
1 Después regresamos y salimos hacia el desierto por el camino del mar Rojo, como Yavé me ordenó. Durante mucho tiempo rodeamos la montaña de Seír.
Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken unto me: and we traveled around mount Seir many days.
2 Entonces Yavé me habló:
And the Lord said unto me, as followeth,
3 Bastantes vueltas dieron ya alrededor de esta montaña. Vuelvan hacia el norte
Ye have traveled long enough around this mountain; turn yourselves northward.
4 y ordena al pueblo: Cuando pasen por el territorio de sus hermanos, los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seír, ellos les temerán. Así que tengan mucho cuidado.
And the people command thou, saying, Ye are passing by the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; therefore take ye good heed unto yourselves;
5 No los provoquen, porque de su tierra no les daré ni 30 centímetros, porque a Esaú dí como heredad la montaña de Seír.
Do not contend with them; for I will not give unto you of their land, even so much as a foot's breadth; because unto Esau have I given mount Seir for an inheritance.
6 Obtendrán el alimento de parte de ellos por plata, y comerán. También por plata negociarán el agua con ellos, y beberán.
Food shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may eat; and water also shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may drink.
7 Porque Yavé tu ʼElohim te bendijo en toda obra de tu mano. Conoció tu andanza a través de este gran desierto. Estos 40 años Yavé tu ʼElohim estuvo contigo y nada te faltó.
For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he hath provided for thy wandering through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
8 Así pasamos más allá de nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú, que viven en Seír, por el camino del Arabá, desde Eilat y Ezión-geber. Cambiamos de dirección y seguimos el camino hacia el desierto de Moab.
And we passed away from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way through the plain, from Elath, and from 'Ezyon-gaber. And we turned and passed the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9 Entonces Yavé me dijo: No hostilicen a Moab, ni contiendan con ellos en guerra, porque nada de su tierra te daré en posesión, porque dí Ar a los hijos de Lot como posesión.
And the Lord said unto me, Do not attack the Moabites, nor contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee from their land any inheritance, because unto the children of Lot have I given 'Ar for an inheritance.
10 Allí habitaron antes los emitas, pueblo grande y numeroso, altos como los anaceos.
The Emim in times past dwelt therein, a people great, and numerous, and tall as the 'Anakim;
11 Ellos también, como los anaceos, eran considerados refaítas, aunque los moabitas los llamaban emitas.
As Rephaim were also they accounted, equally with the 'Anakim; and the Moabites called the[[m]] Emim.
12 También en Seír habitaron antes los horeos, a los cuales desposeyeron. Los hijos de Esaú los destruyeron, y se establecieron en su lugar, tal como hizo Israel en la tierra que Yavé les dio como posesión.
And in Seir dwelt the Chorim in times past; but the children of Esau drove them out, and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel hath done unto the land of his inheritance, which the Lord hath given unto them.
13 Ahora, pues, levántense, y pasen el arroyo de Zered. Así que cruzamos el arroyo de Zered.
Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered; and we passed over the brook Zered.
14 El tiempo que anduvimos desde Cades Barnea hasta que pasamos el arroyo de Zered fue 38 años, hasta que se extinguió toda la generación de los guerreros en medio del campamento, tal como Yavé les juró.
And the time which we came from Kadesh-barnea', until we had passed over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were spent from out the midst of the camp, as the Lord had sworn unto them.
15 También la mano de Yavé estuvo contra ellos para destruirlos de en medio del campamento hasta cuando todos ellos perecieron.
And also the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp; until they were spent.
16 Sucedió que cuando todos los guerreros del pueblo perecieron,
So it came to pass, when all the men of war were spent by, dying from the midst of the people,
17 Yavé me habló:
That the Lord spoke unto me, saying,
18 Hoy pasarás a Ar, el territorio de Moab.
Thou art passing this day by the border of Moab, by 'Ar,
19 Cuando llegues cerca de los hijos de Amón, no los hostigues ni los provoques, porque no te daré posesión de la tierra de los hijos de Amón, pues la dí a los hijos de Lot como heredad.
And thou comest nigh opposite the children of 'Ammon: do not attack them, nor contend with them; for I will not give unto thee of the land of the children of 'Ammon any inheritance; because unto the children of Lot have I given it for an inheritance.
20 Era también conocida como tierra de gigantes, pues antiguamente habitaron en ella gigantes, a los cuales los amonitas llamaban zamzumitas,
As the land of Rephaim was it also accounted: Rephaim dwelt therein in times past; and the 'Ammonites called them Zamzummim;
21 pueblo grande y numeroso, alto como los anaceos, que Yavé destruyó de delante de ellos, quienes los desposeyeron y vivieron en su lugar,
A people great, and numerous, and tall, as the 'Anakim; but the Lord destroyed them before them; and they drove them out, and dwelt in their stead:
22 tal como hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seír, cuando destruyó a los horeos de delante de ellos. Y ellos los desposeyeron y vivieron en su lugar hasta hoy.
As he hath done to the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from before whom he destroyed the Chorim; and they drove them out and dwelt in their stead, even unto this day.
23 Los caftoreos, que salieron de Caftor, destruyeron a los aveos que vivían en aldeas hasta Gaza y vivieran en su lugar.
And the 'Avvim, who dwelt in open towns, as far as unto Gazzah, —the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.
24 ¡Levántense, salgan y pasen el arroyo Arnón! Mira, entregué en tu mano a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, al amorreo y su tierra. ¡Comienza a conquistar y entra en batalla contra él!
Rise ye up, set forward, and pass over the brook Arnon; behold I have given into thy hand Sichon the king of Cheshbon, the Emorite, and his land: begin to drive him out, and contend with him in battle.
25 Hoy mismo comienzo a infundir espanto y temor a ti entre los pueblos que existen bajo todo el cielo, los cuales, cuando tengan noticia de ti, temblarán y se angustiarán delante de ti.
This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven; whoever will hear the report of thee, shall tremble, and shall quake because of thee.
26 Entonces envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademot a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz. Digan:
And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, with words of peace, saying,
27 Déjame pasar por tu tierra. Iré solo por el camino sin desviarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
Let me pass through thy land: always by the highway will I go along; I will not turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
28 Por plata me venderás alimento y comeré, y por plata me darás agua y beberé. Solamente permíteme pasar a pie,
Food shalt thou sell me for money, that I may eat; and water for money shalt thou give me, that I may drink: only let me pass through on foot;
29 como hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú, que viven en Seír, y los moabitas que viven en Ar, hasta que yo cruce el Jordán hacia la tierra que Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos da.
(As the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in 'Ar, have done unto me: ) until that I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth us.
30 Pero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso que pasáramos por su territorio, porque Yavé el ʼElohim de ustedes endureció su espíritu y obstinó su corazón, a fin de entregarlo en su mano, como se ve hoy.
But Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, would not suffer our passing by him; for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and had made obstinate his heart, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as [hath happened] this day.
31 Entonces Yavé me dijo: Mira, Yo comencé a entregar delante de ti a Sehón y su tierra. Comienza a ocupar su tierra para que la poseas.
And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give up Sichon and his land before thee: begin to drive him out, that thou mayest inherit his land.
32 Nos salió Sehón y todo su pueblo al encuentro para enfrentarse a nosotros en batalla en Jahaza.
And Sichon came out against us, he and all his people, to the battle at Yahaz.
33 Yavé nuestro ʼElohim lo entregó delante de nosotros y lo matamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.
And the Lord our God gave him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
34 En aquel tiempo capturamos todas sus ciudades y las destruimos: hombres, mujeres y niños. No quedó sobreviviente.
And we conquered all his cities at that time, and devoted every inhabited city, and the women, and the little ones; we left none that escaped.
35 Solo tomamos para nosotros los animales y el botín de las ciudades que capturamos.
Only the cattle we took as booty unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.
36 Desde Aroer, que está junto a la orilla del arroyo Arnón, y la ciudad que está en el valle, hasta Galaad. No hubo ciudad que fuera demasiado fuerte para nosotros. Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos lo entregó todo.
From 'Aro'er, which is by the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city that is in the brook, even unto Gil'ad, there was not one city which was too strong for us; the whole did the Lord our God give up before us.
37 Solo no te acercaste a la tierra de los hijos de Amón, a ninguna parte del arroyo Jaboc, ni a las ciudades de la región montañosa, según todo lo que Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos mandó.
Only unto the land of the children of 'Ammon didst thou not come nigh, unto the whole margin of the brook Yabbok, and the cities in the mountain, and unto whatsoever the Lord our God had forbidden us.
