Hechos 23
1 Entonces Pablo fijó sus ojos en el Tribunal Supremo y declaró: Varones hermanos: Yo me he conducido delante de Dios hasta hoy con toda buena conciencia.
And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brothers, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
2 Pero el sumo sacerdote Ananías mandó a los que estaban junto a él que le golpearan la boca.
And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.
3 Entonces Pablo le dijo: ¡Dios te golpeará pronto, pared blanqueada! Te sientas para juzgarme según la Ley, ¿y contra la Ley mandas que yo sea golpeado?
Then said Paul to him, God shall smite you, you white washed wall: for sit you to judge me after the law, and command me to be smitten contrary to the law?
4 Los presentes le reclamaron: ¿Te atreves a maldecir al sumo sacerdote de Dios?
And they that stood by said, Revile you God’s high priest?
5 Pablo respondió: No sabía, hermanos, que es un sumo sacerdote, pues está escrito: No maldecirás a un magistrado de tu pueblo.
Then said Paul, I knew not, brothers, that he was the high priest: for it is written, You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.
6 Entonces Pablo entendió que algunos de ellos eran saduceos y otros, fariseos. Levantó la voz ante el Tribunal Supremo: Varones hermanos, yo soy fariseo, hijo de fariseos. Con respecto a [la] esperanza de [la] resurrección de los muertos me juzgan.
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
7 Cuando dijo esto, hubo un altercado entre los fariseos y los saduceos. Se dividió la asamblea
And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
8 porque los saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu, pero los fariseos creen todo esto.
For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
9 Entonces hubo una discusión acalorada. Se levantaron algunos escribas de [los] fariseos y contendían con violencia: No hallamos algún mal en este hombre. ¿Y si le habló un espíritu o un ángel?
And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.
10 Se produjo un gran altercado. El comandante tuvo temor de que Pablo fuera despedazado. Ordenó que la tropa bajara de inmediato a arrebatarlo de en medio de ellos y llevarlo al cuartel.
And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.
11 La noche siguiente le apareció el Señor y [le] dijo: ¡Ten ánimo! Como testificaste fielmente con respecto a Mí en Jerusalén, así te es necesario testificar también en Roma.
And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as you have testified of me in Jerusalem, so must you bear witness also at Rome.
12 Cuando aclaró el día, los judíos tramaron un complot. Se juramentaron bajo maldición y dijeron que no comerían ni beberían hasta matar a Pablo.
And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
13 Los que tramaron este complot eran más de 40,
And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.
14 los cuales dijeron a los principales sacerdotes y a los ancianos: Juramos bajo maldición no comer hasta cuando matemos a Pablo.
And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.
15 Ahora, pues, ustedes y el Tribunal Supremo soliciten al comandante que mañana lo lleve ante ustedes porque van a investigar estrictamente las cosas relacionadas con él. Nosotros estaremos preparados para matarlo antes que llegue.
Now therefore you with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down to you to morrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
16 Pero el hijo de la hermana de Pablo supo lo de la emboscada. Fue al cuartel e informó a Pablo.
And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.
17 Entonces Pablo llamó a uno de los centuriones y le dijo: Lleva a este joven ante el comandante, porque tiene algo que informarle.
Then Paul called one of the centurions to him, and said, Bring this young man to the chief captain: for he has a certain thing to tell him.
18 Él lo llevó ante el comandante y dijo: El prisionero Pablo me rogó que te trajera a este joven que tiene algo que informarte.
So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me to him, and prayed me to bring this young man to you, who has something to say to you.
19 El comandante lo tomó de la mano, [lo] llevó aparte y le preguntó: ¿Qué tienes que decirme?
Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that you have to tell me?
20 Y respondió: Los judíos se pusieron de acuerdo para rogarte que mañana lleves a Pablo al Tribunal Supremo, porque van a investigar estrictamente lo relacionado con él.
And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire you that you would bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 Pero no te dejes convencer por ellos, porque más de 40 varones lo acechan, pues juraron bajo maldición no comer ni beber hasta que lo maten. Ya están preparados y esperan tu promesa.
But do not you yield to them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from you.
22 Entonces el comandante le ordenó: A nadie digas que me informaste esto. Y lo despidió.
So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See you tell no man that you have showed these things to me.
23 Llamó a dos centuriones y [les] dijo: Preparen 200 soldados, 70 jinetes y 200 lanceros para que vayan a Cesarea a las nueve de la noche.
And he called to him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen three score and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
24 Preparen cabalgadura para que monten a Pablo y [lo] lleven con seguridad ante el gobernador Félix.
And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe to Felix the governor.
25 Le escribió una carta:
And he wrote a letter after this manner:
26 Claudio Lisias al excelentísimo gobernador Félix. Saludos.
Claudius Lysias to the most excellent governor Felix sends greeting.
27 Este hombre fue arrestado por los judíos y lo iban a ejecutar. Supe que es romano, fui con la tropa y [lo] rescaté.
This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
28 Como quería saber la causa por la cual lo acusaban, lo llevé al Tribunal Supremo de ellos.
And when I would have known the cause why they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
29 Supe que era acusado por cuestiones de la Ley de ellos, pero no había ningún cargo digno de muerte o prisión.
Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.
30 Me llegó el informe de que había un complot contra él. De inmediato [lo] envié a ti. Ordené también a sus acusadores que hablen contra él delante de ti.
And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to you, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before you what they had against him. Farewell.
31 Los soldados tomaron a Pablo según se les ordenó, y [lo] llevaron de noche a Antípatris.
Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 Al día siguiente [lo] enviaron [a Cesarea ]con la caballería, y los demás regresaron al cuartel.
On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:
33 Ellos entraron en Cesarea, entregaron la carta al gobernador y presentaron a Pablo.
Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, presented Paul also before him.
34 [Aquél] leyó y preguntó de qué provincia era. Supo que era de Cilicia
And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;
35 y le dijo: Te oiré cuando comparezcan también tus acusadores. Y mandó que él fuera custodiado en el Palacio de Justicia de Herodes.
I will hear you, said he, when your accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.
