2 Samuel 18
1 Entonces David pasó revista a la gente que tenía consigo, y designó para ellos jefes de miles y jefes de cientos.
And David numbered the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
2 Luego David envió al pueblo: una tercera parte al mando de Joab, otra tercera parte al mando de Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, hermano de Joab, y la otra tercera parte al mando de Itai geteo. Y el rey dijo al pueblo: Yo mismo también saldré con ustedes.
And David sent forth the people, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said to the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.
3 Pero el pueblo dijo: No saldrás, porque si nosotros tenemos que huir, no nos harán caso. Aunque la mitad de nosotros muera, no nos harán caso, pero tú vales hoy como 10.000 de nosotros. Así que será mejor que nos ayudes desde la ciudad.
But the people said, Thou shall not go forth. For if we flee away, they will not care for us, neither if half of us die, will they care for us, but thou are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that thou be ready to help us out of the city.
4 El rey les respondió: Haré lo que les parezca bien. Y el rey se detuvo junto a la entrada, mientras el pueblo salía por cientos y por miles.
And the king said to them, What seems best to you I will do. And the king stood by the gate-side, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.
5 Y el rey dio orden a Joab, Abisai e Itai: Traten con espíritu de perdón al joven Absalón por amor a mí. Todo el pueblo oyó cuando el rey dio orden a todos los jefes acerca de Absalón.
And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.
6 Entonces el pueblo salió a enfrentar a Israel en el campo. La batalla se libró en el bosque de Efraín.
So the people went out into the field against Israel, and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
7 Allí el pueblo de Israel fue derrotado ante los esclavos de David, y en aquel día hubo una matanza de 20.000 hombres.
And the people of Israel were smitten there before the servants of David, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.
8 La batalla se extendió sobre la superficie de toda aquella tierra, y en aquel día el bosque mató más gente que la que devoró la espada.
For the battle was there spread over the face of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
9 Absalón se halló ante los esclavos de David e iba montado en una mula. Al pasar la mula por debajo del ramaje de un gran roble, se le enredó fuertemente la cabeza en el roble, y quedó suspendido entre el cielo y la tierra. Y la mula que tenía debajo de él, siguió adelante.
And Absalom chanced to meet the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak. And he was taken up between sky and earth, and the mule that was under him went on.
10 Lo vio cierto hombre e informó a Joab: ¡Mira, acabo de ver a Absalón colgado en un roble!
And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.
11 Joab dijo al hombre que le dio la noticia: Y al verlo tú, ¿por qué no lo heriste allí y lo derribaste a tierra? Yo te habría dado 110 gramos de plata y un cinturón.
And Joab said to the man who told him, and, behold, thou saw it, and why did thou not smite him there to the ground? And I would have given thee ten pieces of silver, and a belt.
12 Pero el hombre respondió a Joab: Aunque se pesaran en mis manos 11 kilogramos de plata, yo no extendería mi mano contra el hijo del rey, porque nosotros oímos cuando el rey les dio órdenes a ti, Abisai e Itai: ¡Tengan cuidado que nadie toque al joven Absalón!
And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yet I would not put forth my hand against the king's son, for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
13 De otra manera, si yo hubiera actuado con traición contra su vida (y nada hay escondido del rey), tú mismo tomarías posición contra mí.
Otherwise if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hid from the king), then thou thyself would have set thyself against me.
14 Joab respondió: No perderé mi tiempo contigo. Y tomó tres flechas en su mano, fue y las clavó en el corazón de Absalón, mientras aún éste estaba colgado del roble.
Then Joab said, I will not delay thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
15 Entonces se colocaron alrededor de él los diez jóvenes escuderos de Joab, e hirieron a Absalón y acabaron de matarlo.
And ten young men who bore Joab's armor encompassed about and smote Absalom, and killed him.
16 En seguida Joab tocó la corneta, y el pueblo dejó de perseguir a Israel, porque Joab detuvo al pueblo.
And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel, for Joab held back the people.
17 Luego, tomaron a Absalón, lo echaron a un gran hoyo en el bosque y pusieron un gran montón de piedras sobre él. Y todo Israel huyó, cada uno a su tienda.
And they took Absalom, and cast him into the great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. And all Israel fled every man to his tent.
18 Durante su vida, Absalón tomó y erigió para él el monumento que está en el valle del Rey, porque decía: No tengo algún hijo que conserve la memoria de mi nombre. Y dio al monumento su nombre, y hasta hoy se le llama columna de Absalón.
Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar which is in the king's valley, for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance. And he called the pillar after his own name, and it is called Absalom's monument to this day.
19 Entonces Ahimaas, hijo de Sadoc, dijo: Te ruego que me permitas correr y llevar al rey la buena noticia de que Yavé lo libró de la mano de sus enemigos.
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, Let me now run, and bear the king news, how that Jehovah has avenged him of his enemies.
20 Pero Joab le contestó: Hoy no serás hombre de buenas noticias, sino otro día las llevarás. Hoy no llevarás buenas noticias, porque el hijo del rey murió.
And Joab said to him, Thou shall not be the bearer of news this day, but thou shall bear news another day. But this day thou shall bear no news, because the king's son is dead.
21 En seguida Joab dijo al etíope: Vé, dí al rey lo que viste. Y el etíope se inclinó ante Joab y corrió.
Then Joab said to the Cushite, Go, tell the king what thou have seen. And the Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
22 Pero Ahimaas, hijo de Sadoc, volvió a decir a Joab: Sea como sea, te ruego que me permitas que también yo corra tras el etíope. Y Joab dijo: ¿Para qué corres, hijo mío, si no habrá regalos para ti?
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, But come what may, let me, I pray thee, also run after the Cushite. And Joab said, Why will thou run, my son, seeing that thou will have no reward for the news?
23 Sea como sea, déjame correr. Y él le dijo: ¡Corre! Entonces Ahimaas corrió por el camino de la llanura, y pasó adelante del etíope.
But come what may, he said, I will run. And he said to him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.
24 David estaba sentado entre las dos puertas. El vigía había subido a la azotea de la puerta en el muro. Al alzar sus ojos vio a un hombre que corría solo.
Now David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.
25 El vigía gritó e informó al rey. Y el rey dijo: Si viene solo, hay buenas noticias en su boca. El hombre continuó y avanzaba. Avanzaba y se acercaba.
And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he is alone, there is news in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
26 El vigía vio a otro hombre que corría. El vigía dio voces al portero: Aquí viene otro hombre que corre solo. Y el rey respondió: Ese también trae buenas noticias.
And the watchman saw another man running. And the watchman called to the porter, and said, Behold, another man running alone. And the king said, He also brings news.
27 Y el vigía dijo: Me parece que la carrera del primero es como la carrera de Ahimaas, hijo de Sadoc. Y dijo el rey: ¡Ése es buen hombre y trae buenas noticias!
And the watchman said, I think the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and comes with good news.
28 Entonces Ahimaas gritó al rey: ¡Paz! Y se postró delante del rey con su rostro en tierra y dijo: ¡Bendito sea Yavé tu ʼElohim, Quien entregó a los hombres que alzaron su mano contra mi ʼadón el rey!
And Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, All is well. And he bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
29 Y el rey dijo: ¿Está bien el joven Absalón? Ahimaas respondió: Vi un gran alboroto cuando Joab envió al esclavo del rey y a tu esclavo, pero no supe qué era.
And the king said, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, even me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.
30 Entonces el rey dijo: Pasa y colócate allí. Y él pasó y se quedó allí en pie.
And the king said, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
31 También llegó el etíope y dijo: ¡Reciba mi ʼadón el rey la noticia, pues Yavé te libró hoy de la mano de todos aquellos que se levantaron contra ti!
And, behold, the Cushite came. And the Cushite said, News for my lord the king, for Jehovah has avenged thee this day of all those who rose up against thee.
32 Y el rey preguntó al etíope: ¿Está bien el joven Absalón? Y el etíope contestó: ¡Como aquel joven sean los enemigos de mi ʼadón el rey, y todos los que se levantaron contra ti!
And the king said to the Cushite, Is it well with the young man Absalom? And the Cushite answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
33 El rey se conmovió profundamente, subió a la sala que estaba sobre la puerta y lloró. Mientras subía decía: ¡Hijo mío, Absalón! ¡Hijo mío, hijo mío, Absalón! ¡Quién me diera que muriera yo en tu lugar, Absalón, hijo mío, hijo mío!
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
