2 Samuel 17
1 Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Permíteme que escoja 12.000 hombres, y me levante para perseguir a David esta misma noche.
Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:
2 Caeré sobre él cuando esté cansado y desalentado. Lo atemorizaré de modo que huya toda la gente que lo acompaña. Mataré solo al rey,
and I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:
3 porque él es el hombre a quien tú buscas. Así devolveré a ti a todo el pueblo. Cuando todos vuelvan, todo el pueblo estará en paz.
and I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: [so] all the people shall be in peace.
4 El consejo agradó a Absalón y a todos los ancianos de Israel.
And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.
5 Pero Absalón dijo: Llamen también ahora a Husai arquita, para que también oigamos lo que él diga.
Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.
6 Cuando Husai fue, le habló a Absalón: Ahitofel habló esta palabra. ¿Realizaremos su plan? Si no [te parece], habla tú.
And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do [after] his saying? if not, speak thou.
7 Entonces Husai dijo a Absalón: Esta vez el consejo que dio Ahitofel no es bueno.
And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given this time is not good.
8 Y Husai agregó: Tú conoces a tu padre y a sus hombres que son valientes. Están amargados como una osa a la cual le roban sus cachorros en el campo. Tu padre es un experto en guerra y no pasará la noche con el pueblo.
Hushai said moreover, Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
9 Mira, ahora estará escondido en alguna cueva o en algún otro lugar. Cuando él caiga sobre ellos en el primer ataque, sucederá que cualquiera que lo oiga dirá: ¡Hubo una matanza entre el pueblo que sigue a Absalón!
Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some [other] place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be fallen at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
10 Aun el hombre valiente que tenga corazón como el corazón de un león, desfallecerá completamente, porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es un hombre fuerte y los que están con él son valientes.
And even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.
11 Por lo cual aconsejo que todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba se reúna contigo en gran número como la arena que está en la orilla del mar, y que tú en persona marches a la batalla.
But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
12 De esta manera iremos contra él en algún lugar donde esté y caeremos sobre él como cae el rocío sobre la tierra. Y nadie quedará vivo, ni él ni alguno de los hombres que están con él.
So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leave so much as one.
13 Si se refugia en alguna ciudad, entonces todos los de Israel llevaremos cuerdas fuertes a aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el valle, hasta que no quede allí ni una piedra.
Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
14 Entonces Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai arquita es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel. Yavé dispuso que el buen consejo de Ahitofel se frustrara para que Yavé derramara la calamidad sobre Absalón.
And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
15 Husai dijo a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar: Así y así Ahitofel aconsejó a Absalón y a los ancianos de Israel. Así y así yo les aconsejé.
Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests. Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.
16 Por tanto, envíen de inmediato informe a David: No pases la noche en los vados de la región despoblada, sino cruza al otro lado sin falta, no sea que el rey y el pueblo que está con él sean destruidos.
Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night at the fords of the wilderness, but in any wise pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.
17 Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban junto a la fuente de Rogel. Pero como no podían exponerse a ser vistos si entraban a la ciudad, una esclava fue y les informó, y ellos salieron para informar al rey David.
Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; and a maidservant used to go and tell them; and they went and told king David: for they might not be seen to come into the city.
18 Pero un muchacho los vio e informó a Absalón. Así que los dos se dieron prisa, llegaron a la casa de un hombre de Bahurim que tenía un pozo en su patio, al cual bajaron.
But a lad saw them, and told Absalom: and they went both of them away quickly, and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down thither.
19 Su esposa tenía una manta que extendió sobre la boca del pozo, y esparció sobre ella trigo trillado, y nada se supo del asunto.
And the woman took and spread the covering over the well’s mouth, and strewed bruised corn thereon; and nothing was known.
20 Entonces los esclavos de Absalón fueron a la casa de la mujer y preguntaron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y ella les respondió: Pasaron el vado del río. Y los buscaron, pero al no hallarlos, volvieron a Jerusalén.
And Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.
21 Después que regresaron, aconteció que ellos subieron del pozo, y fueron a informar al rey David. Y le dijeron: ¡Levántense y crucen rápidamente las aguas, porque así y así Ahitofel aconsejó contra ustedes!
And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David; and they said unto David, Arise ye, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.
22 David se levantó y todo el pueblo que estaba con él, y cruzaron el Jordán. Al amanecer no quedaba alguno que no cruzara el Jordán.
Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.
23 Entonces Ahitofel, al ver que no habían seguido su consejo, aparejó su asno, subió en él, y fue a su casa en su ciudad. Y después de establecer orden en su familia, se ahorcó y murió. Fue enterrado en el sepulcro de su padre.
And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home, unto his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.
24 David llegó a Mahanaim cuando Absalón cruzaba el Jordán con todos los hombres de Israel.
Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.
25 Absalón designó a Amasa como jefe del ejército en lugar de Joab. Este Amasa era hijo de un hombre llamado Itra, israelita, el cual estaba ligado a Abigail, hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.
And Absalom set Amasa over the host instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man, whose name was Ithra the Israelite, that went in to Abigal the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.
26 Israel acampó con Absalón en la tierra de Galaad.
And Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.
27 Cuando David llegó a Mahanaim, Sobi, hijo de Nahas, de Rabá, de los hijos de Amón, y Maquir, hijo de Amiel, de Lodebar, y Barzilai galaadita, de Rogelim,
And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,
28 llevaron camas, tazones, vasijas de barro, trigo, cebada, harina, grano tostado, habas, lentejas, semilla tostada,
brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and parched [corn], and beans, and lentils, and parched [pulse],
29 miel, leche, ovejas y quesos de vaca, y los presentaron a David y al pueblo que estaba con él para que comieran, pues pensaron: El pueblo estará hambriento, cansado y sediento en región despoblada.
and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
