2 Samuel 11

1 Aconteció en la primavera del año, en el tiempo cuando los reyes suelen salir en campaña, que David envió a Joab, y con él a sus esclavos y a todo Israel, los cuales destruyeron a los amonitas y sitiaron a Rabá. Pero David permaneció en Jerusalén.

And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

2 Sucedió que a la hora del atardecer David se levantó de su lecho y se paseaba por la azotea de la casa real. Desde la azotea vio a una mujer que se bañaba, y ella era muy hermosa.

And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.

3 David mandó a preguntar por aquella mujer, y uno dijo: ¿No es ésta Betsabé, hija de Eliam, esposa de Urías el heteo?

And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

4 David envió mensajeros y la tomó. Cuando ella fue, él se unió a ella. Después que ella se purificó de su impureza, regresó a su casa.

And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned to her house.

5 La mujer concibió y mandó a informar a David: Estoy embarazada.

And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

6 Entonces David mandó decir a Joab: Envíame a Urías heteo. Y Joab envió a Urías a David.

And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

7 Cuando Urías llegó a él, David le preguntó por la salud de Joab, del pueblo y el estado de la guerra.

And when Uriah was come to him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

8 Después dijo David a Urías: Baja a tu casa y lava tus pies. Y al salir Urías de la casa real, le fue enviado un presente del rey.

And David said to Uriah, Go down to your house, and wash your feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.

9 Pero Urías durmió en la entrada de la casa del rey con todos los esclavos de su ʼadón, y no bajó a su casa.

But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

10 Informaron de esto a David: Urías no bajó a su casa. David preguntó a Urías: ¿No viniste de un viaje? ¿Por qué no bajas a tu casa?

And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down to his house, David said to Uriah, Came you not from your journey? why then did you not go down to your house?

11 Urías respondió a David: El Arca, Israel y Judá permanecen en tiendas, y mi ʼadón Joab y los esclavos de mi ʼadón acampan a campo abierto. ¿Y yo debo ir a mi casa a comer, a beber y a dormir con mi esposa? ¡Por tu vida y la vida de tu alma, yo no haré tal cosa!

And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

12 David dijo a Urías: Quédate aquí hoy, y mañana te dejaré ir. Así pues, Urías se quedó en Jerusalén aquel día y el siguiente.

And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let you depart. So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

13 David lo invitó, y comió y bebió con él hasta embriagarlo. Pero al llegar la noche fue a acostarse en su cama con los esclavos de su ʼadón, y no bajó a su casa.

And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

14 Cuando llegó la mañana, David escribió una carta a Joab la cual envió por medio de Urías.

And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

15 En la carta dijo: Coloquen a Urías al frente, en lo más recio de la batalla, y retírense de él, para que sea herido y muera.

And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set you Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire you from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

16 Así que cuando Joab asediaba la ciudad, asignó a Urías el lugar donde sabía que estaban los hombres más valientes.

And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew that valiant men were.

17 Los hombres de la ciudad salieron y lucharon contra Joab. Cayeron algunos de los esclavos de David, y Urías heteo también murió.

And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

18 Joab comunicó a David todos los sucesos de la guerra,

Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

19 y le encomendó al mensajero: Cuando termines de narrar al rey todos los sucesos de la guerra,

And charged the messenger, saying, When you have made an end of telling the matters of the war to the king,

20 si sucede que sube la ira del rey y te pregunta: ¿Por qué se acercaron tanto a la ciudad para luchar? ¿No saben lo que lanzan desde el muro?

And if so be that the king’s wrath arise, and he say to you, Why approached you so near to the city when you did fight? knew you not that they would shoot from the wall?

21 ¿Quién hirió a Abimelec, hijo de Jerobaal? ¿No fue una mujer que lanzó desde el muro un pedazo de rueda de molino, y murió en Tebes? ¿Por qué se acercaron tanto al muro? Entonces tú responderás: También tu esclavo Urías heteo murió.

Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone on him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went you near the wall? then say you, Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

22 El mensajero fue y al llegar a David, le narró todo aquello a lo cual Joab lo envió.

So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

23 Y el mensajero dijo a David: Prevalecieron contra nosotros los hombres que salieron al campo, pero los hicimos retroceder hasta la entrada de la puerta.

And the messenger said to David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were on them even to the entering of the gate.

24 Entonces los arqueros tiraron contra tus esclavos desde arriba del muro y murieron algunos de los esclavos del rey. También murió tu esclavo Urías heteo.

And the shooters shot from off the wall on your servants; and some of the king’s servants be dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

25 David dijo al mensajero: Dirás esto a Joab: Que esto no te desagrade, porque la espada devora tanto a uno como a otro. Refuerza tu ataque contra la ciudad y destrúyela. Y tú, aliéntalo.

Then David said to the messenger, Thus shall you say to Joab, Let not this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another: make your battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage you him.

26 Al oír la esposa de Urías que su esposo murió, hizo duelo por su esposo.

And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

27 Cuando pasó el luto, David mandó traerla a su casa. Ella fue su esposa y le dio un hijo. Pero lo que David hizo fue desagradable delante de Yavé.

And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
