2 Samuel 10

1 Después de esto, aconteció que murió el rey de los amonitas, y en su lugar reinó su hijo Hanún.

And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.

2 Entonces David pensó: Mostraré bondad a Hanún, hijo de Nahas, así como su padre me mostró bondad. Así que David envió algunos de sus esclavos a consolarlo por el padre de ellos. Pero cuando los esclavos de David llegaron a la tierra de los amonitas,

And David said: 'I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me.' So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

3 los jefes de ellos dijeron a su ʼadón Hanún: ¿Crees que David honra a tu padre porque te envió consoladores? ¿David no te envió a sus esclavos para reconocer la ciudad, espiarla y conquistarla?

But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord: 'Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?'

4 Entonces Hanún tomó a los esclavos de David, les rasuró la mitad de la barba, les cortó sus ropas hasta la mitad de las nalgas y los despidió.

So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.

5 Cuando se informó esto a David, él envió a encontrarlos, porque ellos estaban muy avergonzados. Y el rey mandó a decirles: Permanezcan en Jericó hasta que crezca su barba, y entonces regresen.

When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said: 'Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.'

6 Entonces cuando los hijos de Amón vieron que ellos eran detestables a David, contrataron a los sirios de Bet-rehob y de Soba, 20.000 infantes, del rey de Maaca 1.000 hombres y de Is-tob 12.000 hombres.

And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Arameans of Beth-rehob, and the Arameans of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.

7 Cuando David oyó esto envió a Joab con todo el ejército de hombres valientes.

And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.

8 Los amonitas salieron a presentar batalla en la entrada de la puerta, mientras que los sirios de Soba, Rehob, Is-tob y Maaca estaban aparte, en el campo.

And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate; and the Arameans of Zobah, and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

9 Al ver Joab que la batalla se le presentaba por el frente y por la retaguardia, escogió entre los mejores hombres de Israel y los puso en orden de batalla contra los sirios.

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Arameans;

10 Entregó el resto del pueblo en mano de su hermano Abisai, quien lo alineó en orden de batalla para enfrentar a los amonitas.

and the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother, and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.

11 Joab dijo: Si los sirios son más fuertes que yo, tú me ayudarás, y si los amonitas son más fuertes que tú, te daré ayuda.

And he said: 'If the Arameans be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me, but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.

12 ¡Esfuérzate y esforcémonos por nuestro pueblo y las ciudades de nuestro ʼElohim, y que Yavé haga lo que le parezca bien!

Be of good courage, and let us prove strong for our people, and for the cities of our God; and the LORD do that which seemeth Him good.'

13 Joab y el pueblo que estaba con él se acercaron para pelear contra los sirios, y ellos huyeron de delante de él.

So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Arameans; and they fled before him.

14 Al ver los amonitas que los sirios huyeron, ellos también huyeron de delante de Abisai y entraron en la ciudad. Joab regresó de combatir contra los hijos de Amón y fue a Jerusalén.

And when the children of Ammon saw that the Arameans were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.

15 Pero los sirios, al ver que fueron derrotados por Israel, se volvieron a reunir.

And when the Arameans saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.

16 Hadad-ezer mandó traer a los sirios que estaban al otro lado del Río y llegaron a Helam con Sobac, jefe del ejército de Hadad-ezer.

And Hadadezer sent, and brought out the Arameans that were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadadezer at their head.

17 Se le informó a David, quien reunió a todo Israel, cruzó el Jordán y llegó a Helam. Los sirios se alinearon en orden de batalla para enfrentar a David y lucharon contra él.

And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Arameans set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.

18 Pero aquellos huyeron de delante de Israel. David mató a 700 hombres de los carruajes y 40.000 jinetes de los sirios e hirió a Sobac, jefe del ejército de ellos, quien murió allí.

And the Arameans fled before Israel; and David slew of the Arameans seven hundred drivers of chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.

19 Cuando todos los reyes que eran tributarios de Hadad-ezer, vieron que fueron derrotados por Israel, hicieron la paz con Israel y le sirvieron. Y los sirios tuvieron temor de ayudar más a los hijos de Amón.

And when all the kings that were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Arameans feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
