1 Cuando Atalía, madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo murió, se levantó para destruir a toda la descendencia real.

2 Pero Josaba, hija del rey Joram y hermana de Ocozías, tomó a Joás, hijo de Ocozías. A escondidas lo quitó de entre los hijos del rey que eran asesinados, y lo escondió con su madre de crianza en un cuarto. Así lo escondieron de Atalía, y no fue asesinado.
Sotheli Josaba, douyter of kyng Joram, the sistir of Ocozie, took Joas, sone of Ocozie, and stal him fro the myddis of the sones of the kyng, that weren slayn; and sche took the nursche of hym fro the hows of thre stagis; and sche hidde hym fro the face of Athalie, that he were not slayn.

4 Pero el año séptimo, Joiada tomó a los jefes de centuria, capitanes y comandantes de la guardia real, los llevó consigo a la Casa de Yavé e hizo un pacto con ellos. Les tomó juramento en la Casa de Yavé y les mostró al hijo del rey.

5 Luego les ordenó: Esto es lo que harán: La tercera parte de ustedes, que tienen la guardia el sábado, se ocuparán de la guardia de la casa real.

7 Las otras dos secciones de entre ustedes, todos los que salen de servicio el sábado, montarán guardia en la Casa de Yavé junto al rey.
Forsothe twei partis of you alle goynge out in the sabat, kepe ye the wakyngis of the hows of the Lord aboute the kyng.
8 Rodearán bien al rey, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, y quien pretenda penetrar en las filas morirá. También acompañarán al rey cuando salga y cuando entre.
And ye schulen cumpasse hym, and ye schulen haue armeris in youre hondis; forsothe if ony man entrith in to the closyng of the temple, be he slayn; and ye schulen be with the kyng goynge in and goynge out.
9 Los jefes de centuria hicieron según todo lo que el sacerdote Joiada ordenó. Cada uno tomó a sus hombres, tanto los que entraban como los que salían el sábado, y fueron al sacerdote Joiada.
And the centuriouns diden bi alle thingis whiche Joiada, the preest, hadde comaundid to hem; and alle takynge her men that entriden to the sabat, with hem that yeden out fro the sabat, camen to Joiada, the preest.
10 El sacerdote entregó a los jefes de centuria las lanzas y los escudos que fueron del rey David, los cuales estaban en la Casa de Yavé.
Which yaf to hem speris, and armeris of kyng Dauid, that weren in the hows of the Lord.
11 Los de la escolta, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, se emplazaron desde el lado sur de la Casa hasta el lado norte. Miraban hacia el altar y la Casa, alrededor del rey.
And alle stoden hauynge armeris in her hond, fro the riyt side of the temple `til to the left side of the auter and of the hows, aboute the kyng.
12 Sacó luego al hijo del rey, le colocó la corona, le dio el Testimonio y lo proclamó rey. Lo ungieron, aplaudieron y gritaron: ¡Viva el rey!

13 Cuando Atalía oyó el tumulto de la guardia y del pueblo, se acercó al pueblo en la Casa de Yavé.

14 Miró, y ahí estaba el rey en pie junto a la columna, conforme a lo acostumbrado, y los jefes y las trompetas junto al rey. Todo el pueblo de la tierra se regocijaba y tocaba trompetas. Entonces Atalía, rasgó sus ropas y gritó: ¡Traición! ¡Traición!
and sche siy the kyng stondynge on the trone bi custom, and syngeris, and cumpenyes nyy hym, and al the puple of the lond beynge glad, and syngynge with trumpis. And sche to-rente hir clothis, and criede, `Swerynge togidere! swerynge togidere! ether tresoun.
15 Y el sacerdote Joiada mandó a los jefes de centuria encargados de la tropa y les dijo: ¡Déjenla salir entre las filas, y al que la siga, mátenlo a espada! Pues el sacerdote ordenó: Que no muera en la Casa de Yavé.
Forsothe Joiada comaundide to the centuriouns, that weren on the oost, and seide to hem, Lede ye hir out of the closyngis of the temple; and who euer sueth hir, be smytun with swerd. Forsothe the preest seide, Be sche not slayn in the temple of the Lord.
16 Le dieron paso y ella salió al camino por donde entran los caballos a la casa del rey, y allí fue ejecutada.
And thei puttiden hondis on hir, and hurliden hir bi the weie of the entryng of horsis bisidis the paleis; and sche was slayn there.
17 Joiada hizo pacto entre Yavé, el rey y el pueblo, según el cual ellos serían el pueblo de Yavé, asimismo entre el rey y el pueblo.
Therfor Joiada made boond of pees bitwixe the Lord and the kyng, and bitwixe the puple, that it schulde be the puple of the Lord; and bitwixe the kyng and the puple.
18 Todo el pueblo de la tierra fue al templo de baal y lo destruyeron. Destrozaron completamente sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron a Matán, sacerdote de baal, ante los altares. Y el sacerdote estableció la vigilancia para la Casa de Yavé.
Al the puple of the lond entride in to the temple of Baal; and thei distrieden the auteris of hym, and al tobraken strongli the ymagis; and thei killiden bifore the auter Mathan, the preest of Baal. And the preest settide kepyngis in the hows of the Lord; and he took centuriouns, and the legiouns of Cerethi and Pherethi, and al the puple of the lond.
19 Después tomó a los jefes de centuria, los cereteos, los de la escolta y todo el pueblo de la tierra, y bajaron al rey de la Casa de Yavé. Entraron en la casa real por el camino de la entrada de la escolta, y el rey se sentó en el trono de los reyes.
And thei ledden forth the kyng fro the hows of the Lord; and thei camen bi the weie of the yate of makeris of scheldis in to the paleis; and he sat on the trone of kyngis.
20 Todo el pueblo de la tierra se regocijó, y la ciudad reposó, pues mataron a espada a Atalía en la casa real.
And al the puple of the lond was glad, and the citee restide. Forsothe Athalia was slayn bi swerd in the hows of the kyng.
21 Joás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar.
And Joas was of seuen yeer, whanne he bigan to regne.
