1 Samuel 8
1 Aconteció que cuando Samuel envejeció, designó a sus hijos como jueces de Israel.
And it came to pass when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 Su hijo primogénito era Joel, y el segundo, Abías. Eran jueces en Beerseba.
And the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah; they judged in Beer-sheba.
3 Pero sus hijos no andaban por los caminos de él, sino se apartaron tras la ganancia deshonesta. Recibían soborno y pervertían la justicia.
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
4 Entonces todos los ancianos de Israel se reunieron y fueron a Samuel en Ramá,
Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah,
5 y le dijeron: Mira, tú envejeciste, y tus hijos no andan por tus caminos. Por tanto, desígnanos un rey que nos juzgue, como todas las naciones tienen.
and said to him, Behold, thou art become old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now appoint us a king to judge us, like all the nations.
6 Pero fue desagradable ante Samuel que dijeran: Danos un rey que nos juzgue. Y Samuel oró a Yavé.
And the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah.
7 Yavé dijo a Samuel: Oye la voz del pueblo en todo lo que te digan, porque no te rechazan a ti, sino a Mí, para que no reine sobre ellos.
And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8 Hasta hoy hacen conmigo según todas las obras que hicieron desde el día cuando los saqué de Egipto, cuando me dejaron y sirvieron a otros ʼelohim.
According to all the deeds that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
9 Ahora pues, escucha su voz. Pero adviérteles con solemnidad sobre el procedimiento del rey que reinará sobre ellos.
And now hearken unto their voice; only, testify solemnly unto them, and declare unto them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.
10 Samuel habló todas las Palabras de Yavé al pueblo que pidió rey:
And Samuel spoke all the words of Jehovah to the people that asked of him a king.
11 Este será el procedimiento del rey que reine sobre ustedes: Tomará a sus hijos y los pondrá a su servicio para sus carruajes y como sus jinetes para que corran delante de su carroza.
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, on his chariot and among his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;
12 Los designará para él como jefes de millares y jefes de cincuentenas para arar sus campos, recoger su cosecha y hacer sus armas de guerra y los equipos de guerra de sus carruajes.
and [he will take them] that he may appoint for himself captains over thousands, and captains over fifties, and that they may plough his ground, and reap his harvest, and make his instruments of war and instruments of his chariots.
13 Tomará a sus hijas como perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.
And he will take your daughters for perfumers, and cooks, and bakers.
14 Tomará sus campos, sus viñas y sus mejores olivares, y los dará a sus esclavos.
And your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best, will he take and give to his servants.
15 Tomará el diezmo del grano y de las viñas de ustedes para darlo a sus oficiales y a sus esclavos.
And he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards, and give to his chamberlains and to his servants.
16 Tomará sus esclavos, sus esclavas, sus mejores jóvenes y sus asnos, y hará sus labores con ellos.
And he will take your bondmen, and your bondwomen, and your comeliest young men, and your asses, and use them for his work.
17 Tomará el diezmo del rebaño de ustedes y ustedes mismos serán sus esclavos.
He will take the tenth of your sheep. And ye shall be his servants.
18 Aquel día clamarán a causa del rey a quien escogieron, y Yavé no les responderá.
And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king whom ye have chosen; and Jehovah will not answer you in that day.
19 Pero el pueblo no quiso escuchar la voz de Samuel, sino dijo: No. Habrá rey sobre nosotros,
And the people refused to hearken to the voice of Samuel; and they said, No, but there shall be a king over us,
20 y también seremos como todas las naciones. Nuestro rey nos gobernará, saldrá al frente de nosotros y peleará nuestras batallas.
that we also may be like all the nations; and our king shall judge us, and go out before us, and conduct our wars.
21 Samuel escuchó todas las palabras del pueblo y las habló a oídos de Yavé.
And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the ears of Jehovah.
22 Yavé dijo a Samuel: Escucha la voz de ellos y desígnales un rey. Entonces dijo Samuel a los hombres de Israel: Regrese cada uno a su ciudad.
And Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel, Go ye every man to his city.
