1 Samuel 11
1 Nahas amonita subió y acampó contra Jabes de Galaad. Todos los hombres de Jabes dijeron a Nahas: Pacten con nosotros y les serviremos.
And it came to pass about a month after this, that Naas the Ammanite went up, and encamped against Jabis Galaad: and all the men of Jabis said to Naas the Ammanite, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
2 Nahas amonita les respondió: Con esta condición pactaré con ustedes: Que a cada uno de ustedes les saque el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.
Naas the Ammanite said to them, On these terms will I make a covenant with you, that I should put out all your right eyes, and I will lay a reproach upon Israel.
3 Entonces los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Danos siete días para que enviemos mensajeros por todo el territorio de Israel, y si no hay quien nos libre, nos rendiremos a ti.
And the men of Jabis say to him, Allow us seven days, and we will send messengers into all the coasts of Israel: if there should be no one to deliver us, we will come out to you.
4 Cuando los mensajeros llegaron a Gabaa de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras a oídos del pueblo, y todo el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró.
And the messengers came to Gabaa to Saul, and they speak the words into the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 Aconteció que Saúl llegaba del campo tras los bueyes, y preguntó: ¿Qué le pasa al pueblo? ¿Por qué llora? Y le hablaron las palabras de los hombres de Jabes.
And, behold, Saul came after the early morning out of the field: and Saul said, Why does the people week? and they tell him the words of the men of Jabis.
6 Cuando él oyó estas palabras, el Espíritu de ʼElohim vino poderosamente sobre Saúl, y su ira se encendió muchísimo.
And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled against them.
7 Tomó un par de bueyes, los cortó en trozos y los repartió por todo el territorio de Israel por medio de mensajeros que decían: Así se hará con los bueyes del que no salga tras Saúl y Samuel. Y el temor a Yavé cayó sobre el pueblo, y salieron como un solo hombre.
And he took two cows, and cut them in pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoso comes not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall they do to his oxen: and a transport from the Lord came upon the people of Israel, and they came out to battle as one man.
8 Les pasó revista en Bezec: los hijos de Israel eran 300.000, y los hombres de Judá 30.000.
And he reviews them at Bezec in Bama, every man of Israel six hundred thousand, and the men of Juda seventy thousand.
9 Y dijeron a los mensajeros que llegaron: Así dirán a los hombres de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana, al calentar el sol, serán librados. Los mensajeros fueron y lo informaron a los hombres de Jabes, y ellos se alegraron.
And he said to the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say to the men of Jabis, To-morrow ye shall have deliverance when the sun is hot; and the messengers came to the city, and told the men of Jabis, and they rejoiced.
10 Entonces los de Jabes les dijeron [a los amonitas]: Mañana saldremos a ustedes, y hagan con nosotros lo que les parezca bien.
And the men of Jabis said to Naas the Ammanite, To-morrow we will come forth to you, and ye shall do to us what seems good in your sight.
11 En la madrugada Saúl dispuso al pueblo en tres escuadrones. Entre las tres y las seis de la mañana entraron en medio del campamento y atacaron a los amonitas hasta el calor del día, y el resto fue dispersado sin que quedaran dos de ellos juntos.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Saul divided the people into three companies, and they go into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and they smote the children of Ammon until the day was hot; at it came to pass that those who were left were scattered, and there were not left among them two together.
12 Entonces el pueblo preguntó a Samuel: ¿Quiénes son los que preguntaban si reinará Saúl sobre nosotros? ¡Entréguennos a esos hombres para que los matemos!
And the people said to Samuel, Who has said that Saul shall not reign over us? Give up the men, and we will put them to death.
13 Saúl dijo: Ninguno morirá hoy, porque Yavé dio liberación en Israel.
And Saul said, No man shall die this day, for to-day the Lord has wrought deliverance in Israel.
14 Samuel dijo al pueblo: Vengan, vayamos a Gilgal y renovemos allí el reino.
And Samuel spoke to the people, saying, Let us go to Galgala, and there renew the kingdom.
15 Así que todo el pueblo fue a Gilgal, y confirmaron a Saúl como rey delante de Yavé en Gilgal. Allí ofrecieron sacrificios de paz delante de Yavé. Saúl y todos los hombres de Israel tuvieron gran regocijo.
And all the people went to Galgala, and Samuel anointed Saul there to be king before the Lord in Galgala, and there he offered meat-offerings and peace-offerings before the Lord: and Samuel and all Israel rejoiced exceedingly.
