1 Samuel 10
1 Samuel tomó la vasija de aceite y la derramó sobre la cabeza de [Saúl]. Lo besó y le dijo: ¿No te ungió Yavé para que seas jefe de su heredad?
Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it over Saul's head, and kissed him, saying, “The Lord has anointed you as ruler of his chosen people.
2 Al alejarte hoy de mí, hallarás a dos hombres junto al sepulcro de Raquel en Selsa, el límite de Benjamín, quienes te dirán: Las asnas que buscabas fueron halladas. Pero mira, tu padre dejó a un lado lo de las asnas y está preocupado por ustedes, y dice: ¿Qué hago en cuanto a mi hijo?
When you leave me today, you will meet two men near Rachel's tomb in Zelzah, on the border of Benjamin. They will tell you that the donkeys you went to look for have been found. Now your father isn't concerned about them but is worried about you. He's wondering, ‘What about my son?’
3 Luego cuando pases de allí adelante y llegues al roble de Tabor, te saldrán al encuentro tres hombres que suben a ʼElohim en Bet-ʼEl, uno que lleva tres cabritos, otro que lleva tres tortas de pan y otro que lleva un odre de vino.
You will leave there and go on to the oak at Tabor where you will meet three men on their way to worship God at Bethel. One will be carrying three young goats, one will be carrying three loaves of bread, and one will be carrying a skin of wine.
4 Ellos te saludarán y te darán dos panes, los cuales recibirás de sus manos.
They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread which you should take.
5 Después de esto llegarás a la colina de ʼElohim donde hay una guarnición de los filisteos. Cuando entres en la ciudad, encontrarás un grupo de profetas que bajan del alto, precedidos de salterios, panderos, flautas y arpas. Ellos estarán profetizando.
Next you will come to Gibeah of God, where the Philistines have a garrison. As you come into town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place led by harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres, and they will be prophesying.
6 Entonces el Espíritu de Yavé vendrá sobre ti con poder, y profetizarás con ellos. Serás cambiado en otro hombre.
The Spirit of the Lord will come on you with power. You will prophesy with them, and you will become a different man.
7 Cuando te sucedan estas señales, haz lo que te venga a la mano, porque ʼElohim está contigo.
After these signs have happened, do what you need to do, for God is with you.
8 Luego bajarás adelante de mí a Gilgal. Y mira, yo bajaré a ti para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz. Espera siete días, hasta que yo vaya a ti y te indique lo que debes hacer.
Then go ahead of me to Gilgal. I assure you I will come and join you to present burnt offerings and friendship offerings. Wait there seven days until I come to you, and let you know what you should do.”
9 Sucedió que cuando él volvió la espalda para alejarse de Samuel, ʼElohim le cambió el corazón. Todas esas señales ocurrieron aquel día.
The moment Saul turned to leave Samuel, God gave Saul a different way of thinking, and all the signs were fulfilled that day.
10 Cuando llegaron a la Colina, ciertamente la compañía de profetas llegaba a encontrarse con él, y el Espíritu de ʼElohim se apoderó de él, y profetizó entre ellos.
When Saul and his servant arrived in Gibeah, there was a procession of prophets coming out to meet them, the Spirit of God came on Saul with power, and he also started to prophesy with them.
11 Sucedió que cuando todos los que lo conocían vieron que profetizaba con los profetas, los del pueblo se decían el uno al otro: ¿Qué le sucedió al hijo de Cis? ¿También Saúl está entre los profetas?
Everyone who had used to know Saul and saw him prophesying with the prophets said to each other, “What's going on with the son of Kish? Is Saul one of the prophets too?”
12 Un hombre de allí dijo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por esta causa se convirtió en refrán: ¿También Saúl está entre los profetas?
A man living there responded, “But who is their father?” So it became a saying: “Is Saul one of the prophets too?”
13 Cesó de profetizar, y al llegar al lugar alto,
After Saul had finished prophesying, he went to the high place.
14 el tío de Saúl le preguntó a él y a su esclavo: ¿A dónde fueron? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas, y como no aparecían, acudimos a Samuel.
Saul's uncle asked Saul and his servant, “Where have you been?” “We were looking for the donkeys,” Saul replied. “When we couldn't find them we went to Samuel.”
15 Y el tío de Saúl dijo: Te ruego que me declares lo que les dijo Samuel.
“Please tell me what he said to you,” Saul's uncle asked.
16 Saúl respondió a su tío: Nos dijo claramente que las asnas fueron halladas. Pero nada dijo relacionado con lo que Samuel le dijo sobre el reino.
“He promised us the donkeys had been found,” Saul replied. But Saul didn't tell his uncle what Samuel had said about him becoming king.
17 Entonces Samuel convocó al pueblo a reunirse ante Yavé en Mizpa
Samuel called the people of Israel to come before the Lord at Mizpah.
18 y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Yavé ʼElohim de Israel dice: Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y los libré de mano de los egipcios y de todos los reinos que los oprimieron.
He told the Israelites, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I led Israel out of Egypt, and I saved you from the Egyptians and from all the kingdoms that were oppressing you.
19 Pero hoy ustedes rechazaron a su ʼElohim, Quien los salva de todas sus desgracias y angustias. Le dijeron: No. Más bien, designa un rey sobre nosotros. Ahora pues, preséntense ante Yavé según sus tribus y según sus familias.
But now you have rejected your God, the one who saves you from all your troubles and disasters. You told him, ‘You must appoint a king to rule us.’ So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and family groups.”
20 Samuel acercó a las tribus de Israel, y fue seleccionada la tribu de Benjamín.
Samuel had all Israel come forward by tribes, and the tribe of Benjamin was chosen by lot.
21 Luego acercó a la tribu de Benjamín según sus familias, y fue designada la familia de Matri. De ella Saúl, hijo de Cis, fue seleccionado, pero cuando lo buscaron, no fue hallado.
Then he had the tribe of Benjamin come forward by its family groups, and the family group of Matri was chosen. Lastly, Saul, son of Kish, was chosen. But when they looked for him, he couldn't be found.
22 Entonces consultaron otra vez a Yavé: ¿Ese varón ya llegó aquí? Y respondió Yavé: Ahí está, escondido entre el equipo militar.
So they asked the Lord, “Has he arrived here yet?” The Lord replied, “Go and look—he's hiding among the baggage.”
23 Corrieron y lo sacaron de allí. Cuando se presentó en medio del pueblo, vieron que de los hombros para arriba era más alto que todos.
They ran and brought Saul over. When he stood among the people, he was head and shoulders taller than anyone else.
24 Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Vieron al que Yavé eligió? En todo el pueblo nadie hay como él. Entonces el pueblo exclamó: ¡Viva el rey!
Samuel said to everyone, “Can you see the one the Lord has chosen? There's no one like him anywhere!” All the people shouted, “Long live the king!”
25 Luego Samuel explicó al pueblo los procedimientos del reino y los escribió en el rollo que presentó a Yavé. Después Samuel despidió a todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa.
Then Samuel explained to the people all that a king would do. He wrote it down on a scroll and placed it before the Lord. Then Samuel sent everyone home.
26 Saúl fue también a su casa en Gabaa, y algunos hombres valientes cuyos corazones ʼElohim tocó fueron con él.
Saul also returned to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by warriors who God had encouraged to help him.
27 Pero algunos hombres perversos dijeron: ¿Cómo nos va a salvar éste? Lo despreciaron y no le llevaron algún presente. Pero él disimuló.
But some obnoxious men asked, “How could this man save us?” They hated him and didn't bring him any gifts; but Saul did not retaliate.
