1 Reyes 17
1 Entonces Elías tisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad, dijo a Acab: ¡Vive Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel, en cuya presencia estoy! ¡No habrá rocío ni lluvia en estos años, sino por mi palabra!
Then said Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gil'ad, unto Achab, As the Lord the God of Israel liveth, before whom I have stood, there shall not be in these years dew or rain, except according to my word.
2 La Palabra de Yavé vino a él:
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Apártate de aquí, dirígete al oriente y escóndete junto al arroyo de Querit que está frente al Jordán.
Go away from here, and turn thyself eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Kerith, which is to the east of the Jordan.
4 Sucederá que beberás del arroyo, y Yo mandé a los cuervos que te sustenten allí.
And it shall be, that out of the brook shalt thou drink; and the ravens have I ordained to sustain thee there.
5 Fue e hizo según la Palabra de Yavé, pues salió y vivió junto al arroyo de Querit, que está frente al Jordán.
And he went and did according to the word of the Lord; and he went and remained by the brook Kerith, that is to the east of the Jordan.
6 Los cuervos le llevaban pan y carne por la mañana y al llegar la noche, y bebía del arroyo.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening: and out of the brook he used to drink.
7 Sucedió que al pasar los días se secó el arroyo, porque no llovía en la tierra.
And it came to pass after a while that the brook dried up; because there had been no rain in the land.
8 Y la Palabra de Yavé vino a Elías:
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Levántate, vé a Sarepta de Sidón y vive allí. Mira, Yo ordené a una viuda de allá que te sustente.
Arise, go unto Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and remain there: behold, I have ordained there a widow-woman to sustain thee.
10 Él se levantó y fue a Sarepta. Cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, ciertamente una viuda estaba allí y recogía leña. Él la llamó y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas un poco de agua en un vaso para beber.
So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, there was there a widow-woman gathering sticks of wood: and he called her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 Cuando iba a llevársela, él la volvió a llamar y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas un bocado de pan en tu mano.
And as she went to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.
12 Pero ella respondió: ¡Vive Yavé tu ʼElohim, que no tengo pan cocido! Solamente tengo un puñado de harina en una tinaja y un poco de aceite en la vasija. Y mira, recogía un par de leños para entrar y prepararlo para mí y mi hijo a fin de que comamos y muramos.
And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have nothing baked, but a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a cruise: and, behold, I am gathering a couple of sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son; and when we have eaten it, we shall have to die.
13 Elías le dijo: No temas. Vé, haz como dijiste, solo que de ello me hagas primero una torta pequeña y tráemela. Después harás para ti y para tu hijo,
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake at first, and bring it out unto me, and for thee and for thy son shalt thou prepare [something] afterward.
14 porque Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel, dice: La harina de la tinaja no se acabará, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuirá hasta el día cuando Yavé mande lluvia sobre la superficie de la tierra.
For thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not fail, neither shall the cruise of oil diminish, until the day that the Lord giveth rain upon the face of the earth.
15 Ella fue e hizo según la palabra de Elías, y comieron él, ella, y su casa muchos días.
And she went and did according to the word of Elijah: and she, and he, and her household, did eat [many] days.
16 La harina de la tinaja no se acabó, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuyó, conforme a la Palabra que Yavé habló por medio de Elías.
The jar of meal failed not, nor did the cruise of oil diminish, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken through means of Elijah.
17 Después de estas cosas, aconteció que el hijo de la mujer dueña de casa cayó enfermo. Su enfermedad fue tan grave que no quedó aliento en él.
And it came to pass after these events, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness became very severe, until that at length there was no breath left in him.
18 Ella preguntó a Elías: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo, varón de ʼElohim? ¿Viniste aquí a recordarme mis iniquidades y para que muera mi hijo?
And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O man of God? thou art come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!
19 Y él le respondió: ¡Dame tu hijo! Lo tomó del seno de ella, lo llevó al altillo donde él vivía y lo acostó en su propia cama.
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber, in which he abode, and he laid him upon his own bed.
20 Clamó a Yavé: ¡Oh Yavé, ʼElohim mío! ¿Aun afliges a la viuda en cuya casa estoy hospedado, al matar a su hijo?
And he called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 Luego se tendió tres veces sobre el niño y clamó a Yavé: ¡Oh Yavé, ʼElohim mío, te ruego: Devuelve la vida de este niño a él!
And he stretched himself out over the child three times, and called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, let, I pray thee, the soul of this child return again within him.
22 Yavé escuchó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a él y revivió.
And the Lord listened to the voice of Elijah: and the soul of the child returned into him, and he revived.
23 Entonces Elías tomó al niño, lo bajó del altillo de la casa, lo entregó a su madre y dijo: ¡Mira, tu hijo está vivo!
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the upper chamber into the house, and gave him unto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 Y la mujer dijo a Elías: ¡Ahora sé que tú eres varón de ʼElohim y que la Palabra de Yavé en tu boca es verdad!
And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this do I know, that thou art a man of God, and the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
