1 Corintios 14

1 Sigan el amor y procuren los dones espirituales, pero sobre todo que profeticen.

Pursue love, and desire the spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

2 El que habla en lenguas, habla a Dios, no a los hombres, porque nadie [lo] entiende, pues en [su] espíritu habla misterios.

Because he who speaks in a ‘language’ is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands; in spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 Pero el que profetiza, habla a [los] hombres para edificación, exhortación y consolación.

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to people.

4 El que habla en lenguas se edifica él mismo, pero el que profetiza edifica a [la] iglesia.

The one speaking in a ‘language’ edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the congregation.

5 Entonces deseo que todos ustedes hablen en lenguas, pero más que profeticen, pues mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla en lenguas, a menos que interprete para que la iglesia sea edificada.

I could wish that you all spoke in ‘languages’, but even more that you might prophesy; because the one prophesying is greater than the one speaking in ‘languages’ (unless he interprets), so that the congregation may receive edification.

6 Ahora, hermanos, si los visito y hablo en lenguas, ¿qué les aprovecharía si no les hablo con revelación, conocimiento, profecía o enseñanza?

Now then, brothers, what good will I do you if I come to you speaking in ‘languages’ instead of addressing you with revelation, or with knowledge, or with prophecy, or with teaching?

7 Aun las cosas inanimadas que dan sonido, como la flauta o el arpa, si no producen sonidos distintos, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se toca con la flauta o se tañe con el arpa?

Take lifeless things like a flute or a harp; if they make no distinction in the notes when they produce sound, how will it be known what is being piped or harped?

8 De igual manera, si una trompeta no da sonido claro, ¿quién se prepararía para la batalla?

Also a trumpet; if it gives an indistinct sound, who will prepare for battle?

9 Así también ustedes, si por medio de la lengua no dan palabra fácilmente comprensible, ¿cómo entenderán lo que se habla? Porque hablarían al aire.

So it is with you: if you do not deliver an intelligible message with the ‘language’, how will it be known what is being said? You will just be speaking into the air.

10 Sin duda, ¡cuántas clases de lenguas hay en el mundo, y ninguna carece de significado!

There are probably a great many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without significance.

11 Si, pues, no entiendo el significado de las palabras, seré un extranjero para el que habla, y el que habla, un extranjero para mí.

But if I do not know the force of the sound, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and he will be a foreigner to me.

12 Así también ustedes, puesto que anhelan [dones] espirituales, procuren abundar para la edificación de la iglesia.

And you too: since you are zealous for spiritual things, aim at the edification of the congregation, that you may all grow.

13 Por tanto, el que habla en lengua, hable con Dios para que interprete.

Therefore the one speaking in a ‘language’ should pray that he may interpret.

14 Cuando hablo con Dios en una lengua, mi espíritu comunica, pero mi entendimiento queda sin provecho.

For if I pray in a ‘language’, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

15 ¿Entonces, qué [digo]? Hablaré con Dios con el espíritu, pero también hablaré con el entendimiento. Cantaré alabanza con el espíritu, pero también cantaré con el entendimiento.

So what then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with the mind; I will sing with the spirit, but I will also sing with the mind.

16 De otra manera, cuando bendigas en espíritu, el que quiere entender, ¿cómo dirá amén a tu acción de gracias si no sabe [lo] que dices?

Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the outsider say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?

17 Porque tú, ciertamente, expresas bien la acción de gracias, pero el otro no es edificado.

You, of course, give thanks quite well, but the other is not edified.

18 Doy gracias a Dios que hablo en lenguas más que todos ustedes,

I thank my God speaking in ‘languages’ more than you all,

19 pero en la iglesia prefiero hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento para instruir también a otros, que 10.000 palabras en lengua desconocida.

but in the congregation I would rather speak five words with my understanding, precisely so as to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a ‘language’.

20 Hermanos, no sean niños en el entendimiento. Sean niños en la perversidad, pero maduros en el entendimiento.

Brothers, stop thinking like children—well, in malice be ‘infants’, but in thinking be adults.

21 En la Ley está escrito: Hablaré a este pueblo en lenguas extrañas y por medio de otros. Ni aun así me escucharán, dice el Señor.

In the law it stands written: “I will speak to this people in foreign languages and with different ‘lips’, but not even then will they listen to me,” says the Lord.

22 Por tanto, las lenguas no son señal para los que creen, sino para los incrédulos. Pero profetizar no [es señal] para los incrédulos, sino para los que creen.

Therefore the ‘languages’ are for a sign, not to believers but to unbelievers; while prophesying is not for unbelievers but for believers.

23 De manera que si toda la iglesia se congrega en un lugar y todos hablan en lenguas, y entran unos incrédulos o unos que no tienen [ese] don, ¿no dirán que están locos?

So if the whole congregation comes together and all are speaking in ‘languages’, but outsiders or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are raving?

24 Pero si todos profetizan y entra algún incrédulo que quiere entender, queda expuesto, llamado a cuentas por todos.

But if everyone is prophesying, and an unbeliever or outsider comes in, he is reproved by all, he is examined by all.

25 Los secretos de su corazón son manifiestos, y así se postrará sobre el rostro, adorará a Dios y confesará que Dios está verdaderamente entre ustedes.

And thus the secrets of his heart are exposed, and so, falling on his face he will worship God, affirming, “Truly God is among you!”

26 ¿Entonces, hermanos, qué [significa esto]? Cuando se reúnan, cada uno tiene salmo, enseñanza, revelación, lengua o interpretación. Hagan todo para edificación.

So what goes on, brothers? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a ‘language’, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

27 Si se habla en lengua, que sean dos, o a lo más tres, y uno después de otro, y uno interprete.

If anyone speaks in a ‘language’, let it be two—at the most three—and in turn, and let one interpret.

28 Cuando no haya intérprete, calle en [la] iglesia. Hable para él mismo y a Dios.

But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church; let him speak to himself and to God.

29 Hablen dos o tres profetas, y los demás evalúen.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others evaluate.

30 Si a otro que está sentado se le revela [algo], calle el primero.

But if another who is sitting by receives a revelation, the first should stop speaking.

31 Porque todos pueden hablar uno por uno, para que todos aprendan y sean exhortados.

For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

32 Los espíritus de los profetas están subordinados a los profetas.

Yes, spirits of prophets are subordinate to prophets.

33 Porque Dios no es de desorden, sino de paz. Como en todas las iglesias de los santos,

Further, God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints,

34 las mujeres callen en las congregaciones, porque no les es permitido hablar. Sean obedientes, como también dice la Ley.

your wives should keep silent in the assemblies, for they are not permitted to speak, but to be in subordination, as the law also says.

35 Si quieren aprender algo, pregunten en casa a sus esposos, porque es impropio que una mujer hable en la congregación.

If they want to learn about something, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

36 ¿Salió de ustedes la Palabra de Dios, o solo llegó a ustedes?

Or was it from you that the Word of God went forth? Or was it only to you that it came?

37 Si alguno supone que es profeta o espiritual, reconozca las cosas que les escribo, porque es Mandamiento del Señor.

If anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write to you are the Lord's commands.

38 Pero si alguno hace caso omiso, que sea ignorado.

But if anyone is ignorant, let him remain so.

39 Así que, hermanos, procuren profetizar. No impidan hablar en lenguas.

So then, brothers, seek to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in ‘languages’.

40 Pero hagan todo decentemente y con orden.

Let all things be done properly and in order.
