Sofonías 2
1 Reúnanse, sí, reúnanse, nación que no tiene vergüenza,
Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation without desire [for repentance];
2 antes del tiempo señalado en que el día pasa como la paja, antes de que venga sobre ustedes el furor de Yahvé, antes de que venga sobre ustedes el día de la ira de Yahvé.
Before the decree is brought forth—like the chaff the day passeth away—before yet there be come over you the fierce anger of the Lord, before yet there be come over you the day of the anger of the Lord.
3 Buscad a Yahvé, todos los humildes de la tierra, que habéis guardado sus ordenanzas. Busquen la justicia. Busquen la humildad. Puede ser que ustedes queden ocultos en el día de la ira de Yahvé.
Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, who have fulfilled his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: perhaps ye will be protected on the day of the Lord's anger.
4 Porque Gaza será abandonada, y Ascalón una desolación. Expulsarán a Asdod al mediodía, y Ecrón será desarraigada.
For Gazzah shall become forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolate place: Ashdod shall they drive out at the noon of day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
5 ¡Ay de los habitantes de la costa del mar, de la nación de los queretanos! La palabra de Yahvé está contra ti, Canaán, la tierra de los filisteos. Te destruiré hasta que no quede ningún habitante.
Woe unto the inhabitants of the district by the sea, the nation of the Kerethites! the word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that no inhabitant shall remain.
6 La costa del mar será de pastos, con cabañas para los pastores y rebaños.
And the district by the sea shall become places for pens of shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7 La costa será para el resto de la casa de Judá. Encontrarán pastos. En las casas de Ascalón se acostarán al atardecer, porque Yahvé, su Dios, los visitará y los restaurará.
And this district shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; thereupon shall they feed their flocks: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for the Lord their God will think of them, and bring back their captivity.
8 He oído la afrenta de Moab y las injurias de los hijos de Amón, con las que han afrentado a mi pueblo y se han engrandecido contra su frontera.
I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of 'Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and made themselves great against their border.
9 Por eso, vivo yo, dice el Señor de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, ciertamente Moab será como Sodoma, y los hijos de Amón como Gomorra, una posesión de ortigas y pozos de sal, y una desolación perpetua. El remanente de mi pueblo los saqueará, y los sobrevivientes de mi nación los heredarán.
Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall become like Sodom, and the children of 'Ammon like Gomorrah, overgrown with nettles, and [filled with] salt-pits, and a desolation to eternity; the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my nation shall possess them.
10 Esto lo tendrán por su soberbia, porque se han reprochado y engrandecido contra el pueblo de Yahvé de los Ejércitos.
This shall they have in recompense for their pride; because they have reproached and made themselves great against the people of the Lord of hosts.
11 Yahvé se mostrará imponente ante ellos, porque hará desaparecer a todos los dioses de la tierra. Los hombres lo adorarán, cada uno desde su lugar, hasta todas las costas de las naciones.
Terrible will the Lord [appear] over them; for he will cause to vanish all the gods of the earth; and then shall prostrate themselves before him, every one from its place, all the isles of the nations.
12 También ustedes, los cusitas, serán muertos por mi espada.
Also ye Ethiopians shall be those slain by my sword.
13 Extenderá su mano contra el norte, destruirá a Asiria y convertirá a Nínive en una desolación, seca como el desierto.
And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolate place, dry, like the wilderness.
14 En medio de ella se posarán rebaños, toda clase de animales. El pelícano y el puercoespín se alojarán en sus capiteles. Sus llamadas resonarán a través de las ventanas. La desolación estará en los umbrales, pues ha dejado al descubierto las vigas de cedro.
And there shall lie down in the midst of her flocks, all the beasts of the nations; both the pelican and the hedgehog shall lodge in the capitals of her columns; singing-birds shall sing in the windows; ruin shall be on the thresholds; for the cedar wainscoting shall be torn away.
15 Esta es la ciudad alegre que vivía despreocupada, que decía en su corazón: “Yo soy, y no hay nadie más que yo”. ¡Cómo se ha convertido en una desolación, en un lugar donde se acuestan los animales! Todos los que pasen por ella sisearán y agitarán sus puños.
This is the joyful city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become desolate, a resting-place for beasts! every one that passeth by her will hiss, and shake his hand.
