Proverbios 30
1 Las palabras de Agur hijo de Jakeh, la revelación: dice el hombre a Ithiel, a Ithiel y Ucal:
These things says the man to them that trust in God; and I cease.
2 “Seguramente soy el hombre más ignorante, y no tienen la comprensión de un hombre.
For I am the most simple of all men, and there is not in me the wisdom of men.
3 No he aprendido la sabiduría, ni tengo el conocimiento del Santo.
God has taught me wisdom, and I know the knowledge of the holy.
4 ¿Quién subió al cielo y descendió? ¿Quién ha recogido el viento en sus puños? ¿Quién ha atado las aguas en su manto? ¿Quién ha establecido todos los confines de la tierra? ¿Cómo se llama y cómo se llama su hijo, si lo sabe?
Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? who has gathered the winds in his bosom? who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? what is his name? or what is the name of his children?
5 “Toda palabra de Dios es impecable. Es un escudo para los que se refugian en él.
For all the words of God are tried in the fire, and he defends those that reverence him.
6 No añadas nada a sus palabras, para que no te reprenda y te encuentre mentiroso.
Add not to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be made a liar.
7 “Dos cosas te he pedido. No me niegues antes de morir.
Two things I ask of you; take not favour from me before I die.
8 Aleja de mí la falsedad y la mentira. No me des ni pobreza ni riqueza. Aliméntame con el alimento que me es necesario,
Remove far from me vanity and falsehood: and give me not wealth [or] poverty; but appoint me what is needful and sufficient:
9 no sea que me llene, te niegue y diga: “¿Quién es Yahvé? o para que no sea pobre y robe, y así deshonrar el nombre de mi Dios.
lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? or be poor and steal, and swear [vainly] by the name of God.
10 “No calumnies al siervo ante su amo, para que no te maldiga y seas considerado culpable.
Deliver not a servant into the hands of his master, lest he curse you, and you be utterly destroyed.
11 Hay una generación que maldice a su padre, y no bendice a su madre.
A wicked generation curse their father, and do not bless their mother.
12 Hay una generación que es pura a sus propios ojos, pero no se han lavado de su suciedad.
A wicked generation judge themselves to be just, but do not cleanse their way.
13 Hay una generación, ¡oh, qué elevados son sus ojos! Sus párpados se levantan.
A wicked generation have lofty eyes, and exalt themselves with their eyelids.
14 Hay una generación cuyos dientes son como espadas, y sus mandíbulas como cuchillos, para devorar a los pobres de la tierra, y a los necesitados de entre los hombres.
A wicked generation have swords [for] teeth and jaw teeth [as] knives, so as to destroy and devour the lowly from the earth, and the poor of them from amongst men.
15 “La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas: ‘Da, da’. “Hay tres cosas que nunca se satisfacen; cuatro que no dicen: “¡Basta!”:
The horse-leech had three dearly beloved daughters: and these three did not satisfy her; and the fourth was not contented so as to say, Enough.
16 Sheol, el vientre estéril, la tierra que no se conforma con el agua, y el fuego que no dice: “¡Basta! (Sheol h7585)
The grave, and the love of a woman, and the earth not filled with water; water also and fire will not say, It is enough. (Sheol h7585)
17 “El ojo que se burla de su padre, y desprecia la obediencia a su madre, los cuervos del valle lo recogerán, las águilas jóvenes lo comerán.
The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonours the old age of a mother, let the ravens of the valleys pick it out, and let the young eagles devour it.
18 “Hay tres cosas que son demasiado sorprendentes para mí, cuatro que no entiendo:
Moreover there are three things impossible for me to comprehend, and the fourth I know not:
19 El camino del águila en el aire, el camino de una serpiente sobre una roca, el camino de un barco en medio del mar, y el camino de un hombre con una doncella.
the track of a flying eagle; and the ways of a serpent on a rock; and the paths of a ship passing through the sea; and the ways of a man in youth.
20 “Así es el camino de la mujer adúltera: Come y se limpia la boca, y dice: “No he hecho nada malo”.
Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who having washed herself from what she has done, says she has done nothing amiss.
21 “Por tres cosas tiembla la tierra, y menos de cuatro, no puede soportar:
By three thing the earth is troubled, and the fourth it can’t bear:
22 Para un siervo cuando es rey, un tonto cuando está lleno de comida,
if a servant reign; or a fool be filled with food;
23 para una mujer sin amor cuando está casada, y una sirvienta que es heredera de su señora.
or if a maidservant should cast out her own mistress; and if a hateful woman should marry a good man.
24 “Hay cuatro cosas que son pequeñas en la tierra, pero son sumamente sabios:
And [there are] four very little things upon the earth, but these are wiser than the wise:
25 Las hormigas no son un pueblo fuerte, sin embargo, proporcionan su alimento en el verano.
the ants which are weak, and [yet] prepare [their] food in summer;
26 Los huracanes no son más que un pueblo débil, pero hacen sus casas en las rocas.
the rabbits also [are] a feeble race, who make their houses in the rocks.
27 Las langostas no tienen rey, sin embargo, avanzan en las filas.
The locusts have no king, and [yet] march orderly at one command.
28 Puedes atrapar una lagartija con las manos, sin embargo, está en los palacios de los reyes.
And the eft, which supports itself by [its] hands, and is easily taken, dwells in the fortresses of kings.
29 “Hay tres cosas que son majestuosas en su marcha, cuatro que son majestuosos en su marcha:
And there are three things which go well, and a fourth which passes along finely.
30 El león, que es el más poderoso de los animales, y no se aparta por ninguna;
A lion's whelp, stronger than [all other] beasts, which turns not away, nor fears [any] beast;
31 el galgo; el macho cabrío; y el rey contra el que no hay que levantarse.
and a cock walking in boldly amongst the hens, and the goat leading the herd; and a king publicly speaking before a nation.
32 “Si has hecho una tontería al alzarte, o si has pensado mal, pon tu mano sobre tu boca.
If you abandon yourself to mirth, and stretch forth your hand in a quarrel, you shall be disgraced.
33 Pues como el batido de la leche produce mantequilla, y el retorcimiento de la nariz produce sangre, por lo que el forzamiento de la ira produce contienda”.
Milk out milk, and there shall be butter, and if you wing [one's] nostrils there shall come out blood: so if you extort words, there will come forth quarrels and strifes.
