Proverbios 25
1 Estos también son proverbios de Salomón, que los hombres de Ezequías, rey de Judá, copiaron.
These are additional proverbs of Solomon, which were copied by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah:
2 Es la gloria de Dios ocultar una cosa, pero la gloria de los reyes es buscar un asunto.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out.
3 Como los cielos en altura y la tierra en profundidad, así que el corazón de los reyes es inescrutable.
As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings cannot be searched.
4 Quita la escoria de la plata, y sale material para el refinador.
Remove the dross from the silver, and a vessel for a silversmith will come forth.
5 Aleja a los malvados de la presencia del rey, y su trono será establecido en la justicia.
Remove the wicked from the king’s presence, and his throne will be established in righteousness.
6 No te exaltes en presencia del rey, o reclamar un lugar entre los grandes hombres;
Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men;
7 porque es mejor que se te diga: “Sube aquí”. que ser rebajado en presencia del príncipe, que tus ojos han visto.
for it is better that he says to you, “Come up here!” than that you should be demoted in the presence of the prince. Even what you have seen with your own eyes,
8 No te precipites a la hora de presentar cargos ante los tribunales. ¿Qué harás al final cuando tu vecino te avergüence?
do not bring hastily to court. Otherwise, what will you do in the end when your neighbor puts you to shame?
9 Debate tu caso con tu vecino, y no traicionar la confianza de otro,
Argue your case with your neighbor without betraying another’s confidence,
10 para que quien lo oiga no te avergüence, y tu mala reputación nunca se aleja.
lest the one who hears may disgrace you, and your infamy never go away.
11 Una palabra bien dicha es como las manzanas de oro en los engastes de plata.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
12 Como un pendiente de oro, y un adorno de oro fino, así es un sabio reprendedor para un oído obediente.
Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold is a wise man’s rebuke to a listening ear.
13 Como el frío de la nieve en el tiempo de la cosecha, así es un mensajero fiel a los que le envían; porque refresca el alma de sus amos.
Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 Como nubes y viento sin lluvia, así es el que presume de dones engañosamente.
Like clouds and wind without rain is the man who boasts of gifts never given.
15 Con la paciencia se persuade al gobernante. Una lengua blanda rompe el hueso.
Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
16 ¿Has encontrado miel? Come todo lo que sea suficiente para ti, para que no comas demasiado y lo vomites.
If you find honey, eat just what you need, lest you have too much and vomit it up.
17 Que tu pie esté rara vez en la casa de tu vecino, para que no se canse de ti y te odie.
Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house, lest he grow weary and hate you.
18 El hombre que da falso testimonio contra su prójimo es como un garrote, una espada o una flecha afilada.
Like a club or sword or sharp arrow is a man who bears false witness against his neighbor.
19 Confianza en alguien infiel en tiempos de dificultad es como un diente malo o un pie cojo.
Like a broken tooth or a foot out of joint is confidence in a faithless man in time of trouble.
20 Como quien se quita una prenda en tiempo de frío, o vinagre sobre soda, así es el que canta canciones a un corazón pesado.
Like one who removes a garment on a cold day or vinegar poured on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
21 Si tu enemigo tiene hambre, dale de comer. Si tiene sed, dale de beber agua;
If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 porque amontonarás ascuas de fuego sobre su cabeza, y Yahvé te recompensará.
For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.
23 El viento del norte produce lluvia; por lo que una lengua maliciosa trae una cara enojada.
As the north wind brings forth rain, so a backbiting tongue brings angry looks.
24 Es mejor habitar en el rincón de la azotea que compartir una casa con una mujer contenciosa.
Better to live on a corner of the roof than to share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
25 Como agua fría al alma sedienta, por lo que son buenas noticias de un país lejano.
Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.
26 Como un manantial enturbiado y un pozo contaminado, así es el justo que cede ante el malvado.
Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.
27 No es bueno comer mucha miel, ni es honorable buscar el propio honor.
It is not good to eat too much honey or to search out one’s own glory.
28 Como una ciudad derruida y sin muros es un hombre cuyo espíritu no tiene freno.
Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who does not control his temper.
