Proverbios 24
1 No tengas envidia de los hombres malos, ni el deseo de estar con ellos;
[My] son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
2 para que sus corazones traman la violencia y sus labios hablan de travesuras.
For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
3 A través de la sabiduría se construye una casa; mediante la comprensión se establece;
A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
4 por conocimiento las habitaciones se llenan con todos los tesoros raros y hermosos.
By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
5 Un hombre sabio tiene un gran poder. Un hombre con conocimientos aumenta la fuerza,
A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
6 pues con una sabia guía libras tu guerra, y la victoria está en muchos asesores.
War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
7 La sabiduría es demasiado elevada para un tonto. No abre la boca en la puerta.
Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,
8 El que conspira para hacer el mal se le llamará intrigante.
but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed [men].
9 Los planes de la locura son pecado. El burlador es detestado por los hombres.
The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness [attaches] to a pestilent man.
10 Si flaqueas en el momento de la dificultad, tu fuerza es pequeña.
He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
11 ¡Rescata a los que están siendo llevados a la muerte! En efecto, ¡retened a los que se tambalean hacia la matanza!
Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not [your help].
12 Si dices: “He aquí que no sabíamos esto” ¿acaso el que pesa los corazones no lo considera? El que guarda tu alma, ¿no lo sabe? ¿No ha de dar a cada uno según su trabajo?
But if you should say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
13 Hijo mío, come miel, porque es buena, los excrementos del panal, que son dulces a su gusto;
[My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that your throat may be sweetened.
14 así conocerás que la sabiduría es para tu alma. Si lo has encontrado, habrá una recompensa: Su esperanza no será cortada.
Thus shall you perceive wisdom in your soul: for if you find it, your end shall be good, and hope shall not fail you.
15 No aceches, malvado, contra la morada de los justos. No destruyas su lugar de descanso;
Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.
16 porque el justo cae siete veces y se levanta, pero los malvados son derribados por la calamidad.
For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.
17 No te alegres cuando tu enemigo caiga. No dejes que tu corazón se alegre cuando sea derrocado,
If your enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.
18 no sea que Yahvé lo vea y le desagrade, y aleja de él su ira.
For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
19 No te preocupes por los malhechores, ni tengas envidia de los malvados;
Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
20 porque no habrá recompensa para el hombre malo. La lámpara de los malvados se apagará.
For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
21 Hijo mío, teme a Yahvé y al rey. No te unas a los rebeldes,
[My] son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
22 porque su calamidad surgirá de repente. ¿Quién sabe qué destrucción puede venir de ambos?
For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both?
23 Estos son también los dichos de los sabios: Mostrar parcialidad en el juicio no es bueno.
And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 El que dice al impío: “Eres justo” los pueblos lo maldecirán, y las naciones lo aborrecerán —
He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.
25 pero les irá bien a los que condenen a los culpables, y una rica bendición vendrá sobre ellos.
But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
26 Una respuesta sincera es como un beso en los labios.
and [men] will kiss lips that answer well.
27 Prepara tu trabajo en el exterior, y preparen sus campos. Después, construye tu casa.
Prepare your works for [your] going forth, and prepare yourself for the field; and come after me, and you shall rebuild your house.
28 No seas testigo contra tu prójimo sin motivo. No engañes con tus labios.
Be not a false witness against your [fellow] citizen, neither exaggerate with your lips.
29 No digas: “Haré con él lo que él ha hecho conmigo”; Pagaré al hombre según su trabajo”.
Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.
30 Pasé por el campo del perezoso, por la viña del hombre vacío de entendimiento.
A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.
31 He aquí que todo estaba cubierto de espinas. Su superficie estaba cubierta de ortigas, y su muro de piedra fue derribado.
If you let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.
32 Entonces vi, y consideré bien. Vi y recibí instrucción:
Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.
33 un poco de sueño, un poco de sopor, un pequeño pliegue de las manos para dormir,
[The sluggard says, ]I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across [my] breast.
34 por lo que su pobreza vendrá como un ladrón y su necesidad como hombre armado.
But if you do this, your poverty will come speedily; and your lack like a swift courier.
