Proverbios 14
1 Toda mujer sabia construye su casa, pero la insensata lo derriba con sus propias manos.
Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs [hers] down with her hands.
2 El que camina en su rectitud teme a Yahvé, pero el que es perverso en sus caminos lo desprecia.
He that walks uprightly fears the Lord; but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonored.
3 La palabrería del necio trae una vara a su espalda, pero los labios de los sabios los protegen.
Out of the mouth of fools [comes] a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 Donde no hay bueyes, el pesebre está limpio, pero mucho aumento es por la fuerza del buey.
Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean; but where there is abundant produce, the strength of the ox is apparent.
5 Un testigo veraz no miente, pero un testigo falso vierte mentiras.
A faithful witness does not lie; but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods.
6 El burlón busca la sabiduría y no la encuentra, pero el conocimiento llega fácilmente a una persona con criterio.
You shall seek wisdom with bad men, and shall not find it; but discretion is easily available with the prudent.
7 Aléjate de un hombre necio, porque no encontrarás conocimiento en sus labios.
All things are adverse to a foolish man; but wise lips are the weapons of discretion.
8 La sabiduría del prudente es pensar en su camino, pero la locura de los tontos es el engaño.
The wisdom of the prudent will understand their ways; but the folly of fools leads astray.
9 Los tontos se burlan de la expiación de los pecados, pero entre los rectos hay buena voluntad.
The houses of transgressors will need purification; but the houses of the just are acceptable.
10 El corazón conoce su propia amargura y alegría; no los compartirá con un extraño.
[If] a man's mind is intelligent, his soul is sorrowful; and when he rejoices, he has no fellowship with pride.
11 La casa de los malvados será derribada, pero la tienda de los rectos florecerá.
The houses of ungodly men shall be utterly destroyed; but the tabernacles of them that walk uprightly shall stand.
12 Hay un camino que le parece correcto al hombre, pero al final lleva a la muerte.
There is a way which seems to be right with men, but the ends of it reach to the depths of hell. (questioned)
13 Incluso en la risa el corazón puede estar triste, y la alegría puede acabar en pesadez.
Grief mingles not with mirth; and joy in the end comes to grief.
14 El infiel será pagado por sus propios caminos; De la misma manera, un buen hombre será recompensado por sus caminos.
A stout-hearted [man] shall be filled with his own ways; and a good man with his own thoughts.
15 Un hombre sencillo se lo cree todo, pero el hombre prudente considera cuidadosamente sus caminos.
The simple believes every word: but the prudent man betakes himself to afterthought.
16 El hombre sabio teme y evita el mal, pero el tonto es un calentón y un imprudente.
A wise man fears, and departs from evil; but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.
17 El que se enoja rápidamente comete una locura, y un hombre astuto es odiado.
A passionate man acts inconsiderately; but a sensible man bears up under many things.
18 Los simples heredan la locura, pero los prudentes están coronados por el conocimiento.
Fools shall have mischief for their portion; but the prudent shall take fast hold of understanding.
19 Los malos se inclinan ante los buenos, y los malvados a las puertas de los justos.
Evil men shall fall before the good; and the ungodly shall attend at the gates of the righteous.
20 El pobre es rechazado incluso por su propio vecino, pero el rico tiene muchos amigos.
Friends will hate poor friends; but the friends of the rich are many.
21 El que desprecia a su prójimo peca, pero el que se apiada de los pobres es bienaventurado.
He that dishonors the needy sins: but he that has pity on the poor is most blessed.
22 ¿No se extravían los que traman el mal? Pero el amor y la fidelidad pertenecen a los que planean el bien.
They that go astray devise evils: but the good devise mercy and truth. The framers of evil do not understand mercy and truth: but compassion and faithfulness are with the framers of good.
23 En todo trabajo duro hay un beneficio, pero la palabrería de los labios sólo conduce a la pobreza.
With every one [who is] careful there is abundance: but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in lack.
24 La corona de los sabios es su riqueza, pero la necedad de los necios los corona de necedad.
A prudent man is the crown of the wise: but the occupation of fools is evil.
25 Un testigo veraz salva almas, pero un testigo falso es engañoso.
A faithful witness shall deliver a soul from evil: but a deceitful [man] kindles falsehoods.
26 En el temor de Yahvé hay una fortaleza segura, y será un refugio para sus hijos.
In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and he leaves his children a support.
27 El temor de Yahvé es una fuente de vida, apartando a la gente de las trampas de la muerte.
The commandment of the Lord is a fountain of life; and it causes [men] to turn aside from the snare of death.
28 En la multitud del pueblo está la gloria del rey, pero en la falta de gente está la destrucción del príncipe.
In a populous nation is the glory of a king: but in the failure of people is the ruin of a prince.
29 El que es lento para la ira tiene un gran entendimiento, pero el que tiene un temperamento rápido muestra la locura.
A man slow to wrath abounds in wisdom: but a man of impatient spirit is very foolish.
30 La vida del cuerpo es un corazón en paz, pero la envidia pudre los huesos.
A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart: but a sensitive heart is a corruption of the bones.
31 El que oprime a los pobres desprecia a su Hacedor, pero el que es bondadoso con el necesitado lo honra.
He that oppresses the needy provokes his Maker: but he that honors him has pity upon the poor.
32 El impío es abatido en su calamidad, pero en la muerte, el justo tiene un refugio.
The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness: but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.
33 La sabiduría descansa en el corazón de quien tiene entendimiento, y se da a conocer incluso en el interior de los tontos.
There is wisdom in the good heart of a man: but in the heart of fools it is not discerned.
34 La justicia enaltece a una nación, pero el pecado es una desgracia para cualquier pueblo.
Righteousness exalts a nation: but sins diminish tribes.
35 El favor del rey es para el siervo que trata con sabiduría, pero su ira es hacia el que causa vergüenza.
An understanding servant is acceptable to a king; and by his good behavior he removes disgrace.
