Abdías 1

1 La visión de Abdías. Esto es lo que dice el Señor Yahvé sobre Edom. Hemos oído noticias de Yahvé, y se ha enviado un embajador entre las naciones, diciendo: “Levántate y levantémonos contra ella en la batalla.

The prophecy of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah concerning Edom. We have heard a message from Jehovah, And an ambassador hath been sent among the nations “Arise ye, and let us rise up against her to war.”

2 He aquí que en te he hecho pequeño entre las naciones. Eres muy despreciado.

Behold, I will make thee small among the nations; Thou shalt be greatly despised.

3 La soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado, tú que habitas en las hendiduras de la roca, cuya morada está en lo alto, que dices en tu corazón: “¿Quién me derribará por la tierra?”

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, Thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high, Who sayest in thine heart, “Who shall bring me down to the ground?”

4 Aunque remontes como el águila, y aunque tu nido esté puesto entre las estrellas, de allí yo te haré descender”, dice Yahvé.

Though thou lift thyself up as the eagle, And though thou set thy nest among the stars, Thence will I bring thee down, saith Jehovah.

5 “Si vinieran a ti ladrones, si robaran de noche — oh, qué desastre te espera —, ¿no robarían solo hasta saciarse? Si vinieran a ti vendimiadores, ¿no dejarían algún rebusco?

If thieves had come upon thee, Or robbers by night, Would they not have ceased stealing when they had enough? How art thou utterly destroyed! If grape-gatherers had come upon thee, Would they not have left gleanings of the grapes?

6 ¡Cómo será saqueado Esaú! ¡Cómo son rebuscados sus tesoros ocultos!

How is Esau searched through! How are his hidden places explored!

7 Todos los hombres de tu alianza te han llevado en tu camino, hasta la frontera. Los hombres que estaban en paz contigo te han engañado, y han prevalecido contra ti. Los que se alimentan de tu pan te ponen una trampa. No hay entendimiento en él”.

All thine allies have brought thee to the border; They that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; They that ate thy bread have spread a snare under thee; There is no understanding in thee.

8 “¿No destruiré yo en aquel día — dice el Señor — a los sabios de Edom, y al entendimiento del monte de Esaú?

In that day, saith Jehovah, I will destroy the wise men from Edom, And understanding from the mount of Esau.

9 Tus valientes, Temán, quedarán consternados, hasta el punto de que todos serán eliminados del monte de Esaú mediante la matanza.

Thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed; Every one shall be cut off from the mount of Esau.

10 Por la violencia hecha a tu hermano Jacob, la vergüenza te cubrirá, y serás cortado para siempre.

For slaughter and for oppression of thy brother Jacob shall shame cover thee, And thou shalt be destroyed forever.

11 El día en que te pusiste al otro lado, el día en que los extraños se llevaban sus riquezas su hacienda y los extranjeros entraban por sus puertas y echaban suertes sobre Jerusalén, también tú fuiste como uno de ellos.

In the day when thou stoodest over against him, In the day when strangers carried away captive his forces, And when foreigners entered his gates, And when they cast lots upon Jerusalem, Thou also wast as one of them.

12 Pero no desprecies a tu hermano en el día de su desastre, ni te alegres de los hijos de Judá en el día de su destrucción. No hables con orgullo en el día de la angustia.

But thou shouldst not have looked with delight on the day of thy brother in the day of his calamity; Nor shouldst thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction, Nor have spoken haughtily in the day of his distress.

13 No entres por la puerta de mi pueblo en el día de su calamidad. No desprecies su aflicción en el día de su calamidad, ni te apoderes de sus riquezas en el día de su calamidad.

Thou shouldst not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity, Nor have looked with delight on their affliction in the day of their calamity, Nor have laid hand on their substance in the day of their calamity,

14 No te pongas en las encrucijadas para matar a los suyos que escapan. No entregues a los suyos que se quedan en el día de la angustia.

Nor have stood in the cross-way to cut off their fugitives, Nor have delivered up those that remained in the day of distress!

15 ¡Porque el día de Yahvé se acerca sobre todas las naciones! Lo que hayas hecho, se te hará a ti. Tus obras volverán sobre tu propia cabeza.

For the day of Jehovah is near upon all the nations: As thou hast done, so shall it be done to thee; Thy dealing shall return upon thine own head.

16 Porque como ustedes han bebido en mi monte santo, así beberán continuamente todas las naciones. Sí, beberán, tragarán, y serán como si no hubieran sido.

For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, So shall all the nations drink perpetually, Yea, they shall drink and swallow it down, And they shall be as though they had not been.

17 Pero en el monte de Sión habrá quienes escapen, y será santo. La casa de Jacob poseerá sus bienes.

But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and it shall be holy; And the house of Jacob shall regain their possessions.

18 La casa de Jacob será un fuego, la casa de José una llama, y la casa de Esaú por rastrojo. Arderán entre ellos y los devorarán. No quedará nada para la casa de Esaú”. En efecto, Yahvé ha hablado.

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame, And the house of Esau stubble, And they shall kindle them and devour them. And there shall be none remaining of the house of Esau; For Jehovah hath spoken it.

19 Los del sur poseerán la montaña de Esaú, y los de la tierra baja, los filisteos. Poseerán el campo de Efraín, y el campo de Samaria. Benjamín poseerá Galaad.

And they of the south shall possess the mountain of Esau, And they of the plain, the Philistines; And they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, And the fields of Samaria; And Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

20 Los cautivos de este ejército de los hijos de Israel, que están entre los cananeos, poseerán hasta Sarepta; y los cautivos de Jerusalén, que están en Sefarad, poseerán las ciudades del Néguev.

And the captives of this host of the sons of Israel shall possess the land of the Canaanites unto Sarepta, And the captives of Jerusalem which are at Sepharad shall possess the cities of the south.

21 Los salvadores subirán al monte Sión para juzgar los montes de Esaú, y el reino será de Yahvé.

And saviors shall go up to mount Zion, To rule the mount of Esau. And the kingdom shall be Jehovah's.
