Nehemías 1
1 Las palabras de Nehemías, hijo de Hacalías. En el mes de Chislev, en el año veinte, estando yo en el palacio de Susa,
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 vinieron Hanani, uno de mis hermanos, él y algunos hombres de Judá, y les pregunté sobre los judíos que habían escapado, que habían quedado del cautiverio, y sobre Jerusalén.
That Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 Ellos me dijeron: “El remanente que queda del cautiverio allí en la provincia está en gran aflicción y reproche. También el muro de Jerusalén está derrumbado, y sus puertas están quemadas por el fuego”.
And they said to me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 Cuando oí estas palabras, me senté y lloré, y me lamenté durante varios días y ayuné y oré ante el Dios del cielo,
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 y dije: “Te ruego, Yahvé, el Dios del cielo, el Dios grande y temible que guarda el pacto y la bondad amorosa con los que lo aman y guardan sus mandamientos,
And said, I beseech you, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keeps covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6 que tu oído esté ahora atento y tus ojos abiertos, para que escuches la oración de tu siervo que hago ante ti en este momento, de día y de noche, por los hijos de Israel tus siervos, mientras confieso los pecados de los hijos de Israel que hemos cometido contra ti. Sí, yo y la casa de mi padre hemos pecado.
Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may hear the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you now, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
7 Hemos actuado muy corruptamente contra ti, y no hemos guardado los mandamientos, ni los estatutos, ni las ordenanzas, que ordenaste a tu siervo Moisés.
We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which you commanded your servant Moses.
8 “Acuérdate, te lo ruego, de la palabra que ordenaste a tu siervo Moisés, diciendo: ‘Si os desviáis, os dispersaré entre los pueblos;
Remember, I beseech you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, If you transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9 pero si os volvéis a mí, y guardáis mis mandamientos y los ponéis en práctica, aunque vuestros desterrados estén en el extremo de los cielos, yo los recogeré de allí y los traeré al lugar que he elegido, para hacer habitar allí mi nombre’.
But if you turn to me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out to the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10 “Ahora bien, estos son tus siervos y tu pueblo, a quienes has redimido con tu gran poder y con tu mano fuerte.
Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand.
11 Señor, te ruego que tu oído esté atento ahora a la oración de tu siervo, y a la oración de tus siervos que se deleitan en temer tu nombre; y por favor, prospera a tu siervo hoy, y concédele misericordia ante este hombre.” Ahora yo era portador de la copa del rey.
O LORD, I beseech you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who desire to fear your name: and prosper, I pray you, your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.
