San Mateo 16
1 Se acercaron los fariseos y los saduceos y, poniéndole a prueba, le pidieron que les mostrara una señal del cielo.
Here the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Him; and, to make trial of Him, they asked Him to show them a sign in the sky.
2 Pero él les contestó: “Cuando cae la tarde, decís: ‘Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo está rojo’.
He replied, "In the evening you say, 'It will be fine weather, for the sky is red;'
3 Por la mañana, decís: “Hoy hará mal tiempo, porque el cielo está rojo y amenazante”. ¡Hipócritas! Sabéis discernir el aspecto del cielo, ¡pero no sabéis discernir los signos de los tiempos!
and in the morning, 'It will be rough weather to-day, for the sky is red and murky.' You learn how to distinguish the aspect of the heavens, but the signs of the times you cannot.
4 Una generación malvada y adúltera busca una señal, y no se le dará ninguna señal, sino la del profeta Jonás.” Los dejó y se fue.
A wicked and faithless generation are eager for a sign; but none shall be given to them except the sign of Jonah." and He left them and went away.
5 Los discípulos llegaron al otro lado y se habían olvidado de tomar el pan.
When the disciples arrived at the other side of the Lake, they found that they had forgotten to bring any bread;
6 Jesús les dijo: “Mirad y guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos.”
and when Jesus said to them, "See to it: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,"
7 Razonaban entre ellos, diciendo: “No hemos traído pan”.
they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have not brought any bread."
8 Jesús, al darse cuenta, dijo: “¿Por qué discutís entre vosotros, hombres de poca fe, porque no habéis traído pan?
Jesus perceived this and said, "Why are you reasoning among yourselves, you men of little faith, because you have no bread?
9 ¿Aún no percibís ni os acordáis de los cinco panes para los cinco mil, y de cuántas cestas recogisteis,
Do you not yet understand? nor even remember the 5,000 and the five loaves, and how many basketfuls you carried away,
10 o de los siete panes para los cuatro mil, y de cuántas cestas recogisteis?
nor the 4,000 and the seven loaves, and how many hampers you carried away?
11 ¿Cómo es que no percibís que no os hablé del pan? Pero tened cuidado con la levadura de los fariseos y saduceos”.
How is it you do not understand that it was not about bread that I spoke to you? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
12 Entonces comprendieron que no les decía que se cuidaran de la levadura del pan, sino de la enseñanza de los fariseos y saduceos.
Then they perceived that He had not warned them against bread-yeast, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Cuando Jesús llegó a las partes de Cesarea de Filipo, preguntó a sus discípulos: “¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo, el Hijo del Hombre?”
When He arrived in the neighbourhood of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus questioned His disciples. "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" He asked.
14 Dijeron: “Unos dicen que Juan el Bautista, otros que Elías y otros que Jeremías o alguno de los profetas”.
"Some say John the Baptist," they replied; "others Elijah; others Jeremiah or one of the Prophets."
15 Les dijo: “¿Pero quién decís que soy yo?”.
"But you, who do you say that I am?" He asked again.
16 Simón Pedro respondió: “Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios vivo”.
"You," replied Simon Peter, "are the Christ, the Son of the ever-living God."
17 Jesús le respondió: “Bendito seas, Simón Bar Jonás, porque no te lo ha revelado la carne ni la sangre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos.
"Blessed are you, Simon Bar-jonah," said Jesus; "for mere human nature has not revealed this to you, but my Father in Heaven.
18 También te digo que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi iglesia, y las puertas del Hades no prevalecerán contra ella. (Hadēs g86)
And I declare to you that you are Peter, and that upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the might of Hades shall not triumph over it. (Hadēs g86)
19 Te daré las llaves del Reino de los Cielos, y todo lo que ates en la tierra habrá sido atado en el cielo; y todo lo que sueltes en la tierra habrá sido soltado en el cielo.”
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of the Heavens; and whatever you bind on earth shall remain bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall remain loosed in Heaven."
20 Entonces mandó a los discípulos que no dijeran a nadie que él era Jesús el Cristo.
Then He urged His disciples to tell no one that He was the Christ.
21 Desde entonces, Jesús comenzó a mostrar a sus discípulos que debía ir a Jerusalén y sufrir muchas cosas por parte de los ancianos, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los escribas, y ser muerto, y al tercer día resucitar.
From this time Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer much cruelty from the Elders and the High Priests and the Scribes, and be put to death, and on the third day be raised to life again.
22 Pedro lo tomó aparte y comenzó a reprenderlo, diciendo: “¡Lejos de ti, Señor! Esto no se te hará nunca”.
Then Peter took Him aside and began taking Him to task. "Master," he said, "God forbid; this will not be your lot."
23 Pero él, volviéndose, dijo a Pedro: “¡Apártate de mí, Satanás! Eres una piedra de tropiezo para mí, porque no pones tu mente en las cosas de Dios, sino en las de los hombres.”
But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Adversary; you are a hindrance to me, because your thoughts are not God's thoughts, but men's."
24 Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz y sígame.
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any one desires to follow me, let him renounce self and take up his cross, and so be my follower.
25 Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá, y el que pierda su vida por mí, la encontrará.
For whoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake shall find it.
26 Porque ¿de qué le servirá al hombre ganar el mundo entero si pierde su vida? ¿O qué dará el hombre a cambio de su vida?
Why, what benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give to buy back his life?
27 Porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá en la gloria de su Padre con sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno según sus obras.
For the Son of Man is soon to come in the glory of the Father with His angels, and then will He requite every man according to his actions.
28 De cierto os digo que hay algunos de los que están aquí que no probarán la muerte hasta que vean al Hijo del Hombre venir en su Reino.”
I solemnly tell you that some of those who are standing here will certainly not taste death till they have seen the Son of Man coming in His Kingdom."
