San Mateo 11
1 Cuando Jesús terminó de dirigir a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.
And so it was, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and preach in their towns.
2 Cuando Juan oyó en la cárcel las obras de Cristo, envió a dos de sus discípulos
But John, hearing in prison about the works of the Messiah, sent two of his disciples
3 y le dijeron: “¿Eres tú el que viene, o tenemos que buscar a otro?”
to say to Him, “Are you the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
4 Jesús les respondió: “Id y contad a Juan lo que oís y veis:
By way of answer Jesus said to them: “Go and report to John the things that you hear and see:
5 los ciegos ven, los cojos andan, los leprosos quedan limpios, los sordos oyen, los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les anuncia la buena nueva.
blind regain sight and lame walk, lepers are cleansed and deaf hear, dead are raised and the poor are evangelized.
6 Dichoso el que no encuentra en mí ocasión de tropezar”.
And, blessed be whoever is not offended at Me!”
7 Mientras éstos se iban, Jesús comenzó a decir a las multitudes acerca de Juan: “¿Qué salisteis a ver al desierto? ¿Una caña sacudida por el viento?
So as they departed Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see, a reed shaken by the wind?
8 ¿Y qué salisteis a ver? ¿A un hombre con ropa elegante? He aquí que los que llevan ropa elegante están en las casas de los reyes.
But what did you go out to see, a man clothed in soft garments? Actually, those who wear soft material are in kings' houses.
9 Pero, ¿por qué salisteis? ¿Para ver a un profeta? Sí, os digo, y mucho más que un profeta.
But really, what did you go out to see, a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
10 Porque éste es aquel de quien está escrito: ‘He aquí que yo envío mi mensajero delante de ti, el cual preparará tu camino delante de ti’.
For this is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way ahead of you.’
11 De cierto os digo que entre los nacidos de mujer no se ha levantado nadie más grande que Juan el Bautista; pero el más pequeño en el Reino de los Cielos es más grande que él.
Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen a greater than John the Baptizer; but he who is least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.
12 Desde los días de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora, el Reino de los Cielos sufre violencia, y los violentos lo toman por la fuerza.
But from the days of John the Baptizer until now the kingdom of the heavens is being aggressive and aggressive people are seizing upon it.
13 Porque todos los profetas y la ley profetizaron hasta Juan.
For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John,
14 Si estáis dispuestos a recibirlo, éste es Elías, que ha de venir.
and if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
15 El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.
He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
16 “¿Pero con qué compararé a esta generación? Es como los niños sentados en las plazas, que llaman a sus compañeros
“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in a marketplace and calling to their friends
17 y dicen: ‘Tocamos la flauta por vosotros, y no bailasteis. Nosotros nos lamentamos por vosotros, y vosotros no os lamentasteis’.
and saying, ‘We played the flute for you and you did not dance; we mourned for you and you did not lament.’
18 Porque Juan no vino ni a comer ni a beber, y dicen: ‘Tiene un demonio.’
For John came neither eating nor drinking and they say, ‘He has a demon’;
19 El Hijo del Hombre vino comiendo y bebiendo, y dicen: ‘He aquí un glotón y un borracho, amigo de recaudadores y pecadores.’ Pero la sabiduría se justifica por sus hijos.”
the Son of the Man came eating and drinking and they say, ‘Just look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Indeed, wisdom is vindicated by her children.”
20 Entonces comenzó a denunciar a las ciudades en las que se habían realizado la mayoría de sus obras poderosas, porque no se arrepentían.
Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
21 “¡Ay de ti, Corazin! ¡Ay de ti, Betsaida! Porque si en Tiro y en Sidón se hubieran hecho las obras poderosas que se hicieron en vosotros, hace tiempo que se habrían arrepentido en saco y ceniza.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 Pero os digo que el día del juicio será más tolerable para Tiro y Sidón que para vosotros.
So I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the Day of judgment than for you!
23 Tú, Capernaúm, que estás exaltada hasta el cielo, descenderás al Hades. Porque si en Sodoma se hubieran hecho las obras poderosas que se hicieron en ti, habría permanecido hasta hoy. (Hadēs g86)
And you, Capernaum, ‘the one having been exalted to heaven’, you will be brought down to Hades! Because if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Pero os digo que será más tolerable para la tierra de Sodoma en el día del juicio, que para vosotros.”
So I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the Day of judgment than for you.”
25 En aquel momento, Jesús respondió: “Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas a los sabios y entendidos, y las has revelado a los niños.
At that time Jesus reacted and said: “‘I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to ‘babes’.
26 Sí, Padre, porque así fue agradable a tus ojos.
Yes, Father, because thus it was good to You.’
27 Todas las cosas me han sido entregadas por mi Padre. Nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo quiera revelarlo.
“All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one really knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone really know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son may will to reveal Him.
28 “Venid a mí todos los que estáis fatigados y agobiados, y yo os haré descansar.
Come to me all you who are laboring and are loaded down, and I will give you rest.
29 Llevad mi yugo y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y encontraréis descanso para vuestras almas.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls;
30 Porque mi yugo es fácil, y mi carga es ligera”.
for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
