San Lucas 2
1 En aquellos días, salió un decreto de César Augusto para que se inscribiera todo el mundo.
Now in those days an edict was published by Augustus Cesar, that all the world should be enrolled or taxed,
2 Esta fue la primera inscripción que se hizo cuando Quirinius era gobernador de Siria.
(this tax was first levied when Cyrenius was governor of Syria) and they all went to be enrolled,
3 Todos fueron a inscribirse, cada uno a su ciudad.
every one to his own city:
4 También José subió de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, porque era de la casa y de la familia de David,
so Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (because he
5 para inscribirse con María, que estaba comprometida con él como esposa, estando embarazada.
was of the house and line of David) to be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was big with child.
6 Mientras estaban allí, le llegó el día de dar a luz.
And while they were there, the days of her delivery were fulfilled,
7 Dio a luz a su hijo primogénito. Lo envolvió en cintas de tela y lo puso en un pesebre, porque no había sitio para ellos en la posada.
and she brought forth her son, the first-born, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Había en la misma región unos pastores que permanecían en el campo y velaban de noche por su rebaño.
And there were in the same country shepherds out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night: and lo,
9 He aquí que un ángel del Señor se puso junto a ellos, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó, y se asustaron.
an angel of the Lord stood over them, and the glory of the Lord shone round them, and they were greatly terrified:
10 El ángel les dijo: “No temáis, porque he aquí que os traigo una buena noticia de gran alegría que será para todo el pueblo.
and the angel said to them, Be not affrighted; for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people,
11 Porque os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.
that this day is born, in the city of David, your Saviour Christ the Lord.
12 Esta es la señal para vosotros: encontraréis un niño envuelto en tiras de tela, acostado en un comedero”.
And this shall be a sign to you, Ye shall find the child wrapped in swaddling bands lying in a manger.
13 De repente, apareció con el ángel una multitud del ejército celestial que alababa a Dios y decía
And on a sudden there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host,
14 “Gloria a Dios en las alturas, en la tierra la paz, la buena voluntad hacia los hombres”.
praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good-will towards men.
15 Cuando los ángeles se alejaron de ellos hacia el cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: “Vamos ahora a Belén a ver esto que ha sucedido y que el Señor nos ha dado a conocer.”
And when the angels went from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let us go to Bethlehem, and see this which hath been told us, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 Llegaron a toda prisa y encontraron a María y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.
And they came with speed, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger:
17 Al verlo, difundieron ampliamente el dicho que se les había dicho sobre este niño.
and when they had seen it, they divulged what had been told them concerning this child:
18 Todos los que lo oían se asombraban de lo que les decían los pastores.
and all that heard it, were amazed at the things which were related to them by the shepherds.
19 Pero María guardaba todas estas palabras, meditándolas en su corazón.
But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering them in her heart.
20 Los pastores volvieron glorificando y alabando a Dios por todo lo que habían oído y visto, tal como se les había dicho.
And the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for all the things which they had heard and seen, according as it had been told unto them.
21 Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para la circuncisión del niño, se le puso el nombre de Jesús, que le fue dado por el ángel antes de ser concebido en el vientre.
And when eight days were fulfilled for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, having been so called by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
22 Cuando se cumplieron los días de su purificación según la ley de Moisés, lo llevaron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor
And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought Him to Jerusalem to present Him before the Lord:
23 (como está escrito en la ley del Señor: “Todo varón que abra el vientre será llamado santo para el Señor”),
(as it is written in the law of the Lord, That every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord: ) and to offer a sacrifice,
24 y para ofrecer un sacrificio según lo que se dice en la ley del Señor: “Un par de tórtolas o dos pichones”.
according to what is required in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtle-doves or two young pigeons.
25 He aquí que había en Jerusalén un hombre que se llamaba Simeón. Este hombre era justo y piadoso, y buscaba la consolación de Israel, y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.
And there was a man at Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and he was a just and a religious man, who expected the consolation of Israel; and the holy Spirit was upon him.
26 Le había sido revelado por el Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes de ver al Cristo del Señor.
And it was revealed to him by the holy Spirit, that he should not die before he had seen the Anointed of the Lord.
27 Entró en el templo en el Espíritu. Cuando los padres introdujeron al niño, Jesús, para que hicieran con él lo que estaba previsto en la ley,
And he came by the influence of the Spirit into the temple, as his parents brought in the child Jesus to do concerning Him according to the custom of the law:
28 entonces lo recibió en sus brazos, bendijo a Dios y dijo
and he took Him into his arms,
29 “Ahora, Señor, liberas a tu siervo, en paz, según tu palabra;
and blessed God, and said, "Now, Lord, thou dismissest thy servant in peace, according to thy word;
30 porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación,
for mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast provided in the sight of all people,
31 que has preparado delante de todos los pueblos;
a light for the enlightening of the Gentiles,
32 una luz para la revelación a las naciones, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel”.
and the glory of thy people Israel."
33 José y su madre se maravillaban de lo que se decía de él.
And Joseph and his mother were amazed at the things that were spoken concerning Him.
34 Simeón los bendijo, y dijo a María, su madre: “He aquí que este niño está destinado a la caída y al levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y a ser una señal de la que se habla.
And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be spoken against,
35 Sí, una espada atravesará tu propia alma, para que se revelen los pensamientos de muchos corazones.”
(and a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also) that the thoughts of many hearts may be discovered.
36 Había una tal Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser (era de edad avanzada, pues había vivido con un marido siete años desde su virginidad,
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; who was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her first marrying,
37 y llevaba como ochenta y cuatro años de viuda), que no se apartaba del templo, adorando con ayunos y peticiones noche y día.
and had been a widow about eighty four years; who departed not from the temple; serving God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38 Subiendo a esa misma hora, dio gracias al Señor y habló de él a todos los que buscaban la redención en Jerusalén.
And coming in at the very same time, gave thanks unto the Lord, and spake of Him to all that were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
39 Cuando cumplieron todo lo que estaba previsto en la ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad, Nazaret.
And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40 El niño crecía y se fortalecía en su espíritu, lleno de sabiduría, y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
And the child grew, and became strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.
41 Sus padres iban todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.
Now his parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover:
42 Cuando tenía doce años, subieron a Jerusalén según la costumbre de la fiesta;
and when He was twelve years old, going up to Jerusalem, as usual at the feast, and having finished the time,
43 y cuando se cumplieron los días, al regresar, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén. José y su madre no lo sabían,
when they returned, the child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem: and Joseph and his mother did not know it;
44 pero suponiendo que estaba en la compañía, se fueron de viaje un día; y lo buscaron entre sus parientes y conocidos.
but supposing Him to be in the company, went a day's journey, and then sought for Him among their kindred and acquaintance:
45 Al no encontrarlo, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándolo.
and not finding Him they returned to Jerusalem seeking for Him:
46 Al cabo de tres días lo encontraron en el templo, sentado en medio de los maestros, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.
and after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, attending to them and asking them questions.
47 Todos los que le oían se asombraban de su comprensión y de sus respuestas.
And all that heard Him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.
48 Al verle, se asombraron; y su madre le dijo: “Hijo, ¿por qué nos has tratado así? He aquí que tu padre y yo te buscábamos ansiosamente”.
And when they saw Him, they were amazed. And his mother said to Him, Son, why didst thou deal thus with us? behold, thy father and I with grief have been seeking for thee.
49 Él les dijo: “¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que debía estar en la casa de mi Padre?”
And He said to them, Why did ye so seek me? Did not ye know that I ought to be in my Father's house?
50 Ellos no entendían lo que les decía.
but they did not understand the word which He spake to them.
51 Bajó con ellos y llegó a Nazaret. Se sometió a ellos, y su madre guardaba todas estas palabras en su corazón.
Then He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría y en estatura, y en gracia ante Dios y los hombres.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
