Lamentaciones 4
1 ¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro! ¡El oro más puro ha cambiado! Las piedras del santuario se derraman a la cabeza de cada calle.
Oh how is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! how are the stones of the sanctuary poured out at the corners of every street.
2 Los preciosos hijos de Sion, comparable al oro fino, como son estimados como cántaros de tierra, ¡el trabajo de las manos del alfarero!
The precious sons of Zion, valued equal to pure gold, how are they now esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Incluso los chacales ofrecen su pecho. Amamantan a sus crías. Pero la hija de mi pueblo se ha vuelto cruel, como las avestruces en el desierto.
Even wild beasts offer the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 La lengua del niño lactante se aferra al paladar por la sed. Los niños pequeños piden pan, y nadie la rompe por ellos.
The tongue of the suckling cleaveth to its palate by reason of thirst: babes ask for bread, there is not one to break it for them.
5 Los que comían manjares están desolados en las calles. Los que se criaron en la púrpura abrazan los estercoleros.
Those that used to eat dainty food are desolate in the streets: they that were reared up on scarlet now embrace dunghills.
6 Porque la iniquidad de la hija de mi pueblo es mayor que el pecado de Sodoma, que fue derrocado como en un momento. No le pusieron las manos encima.
For greater is the iniquity of the daughter of my people than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as it were in a moment, and no human hands were laid on her.
7 Sus nobles eran más puros que la nieve. Eran más blancos que la leche. Tenían un cuerpo más rojizo que los rubíes. Su pulido era como el zafiro.
Her crowned princes were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more brilliant in body than pearls, more than the sapphire, their countenance:
8 Su aspecto es más negro que un carbón. No son conocidos en las calles. Su piel se adhiere a sus huesos. Se ha marchitado. Se ha vuelto como la madera.
Darker than black is now their visage; they are not to be recognized in the streets: their skin is shriveled fast upon their bones; it is dry, it is become like wood.
9 Los que mueren a espada son mejores que los que mueren de hambre; porque estos se consumen, golpeados, por falta de los frutos del campo.
Happier are those slain by the sword than those slain by hunger; for those poured forth their blood, being pierced through, —[these perished] without the fruits of the field.
10 Las manos de las mujeres lamentables han hervido a sus propios hijos. Fueron su alimento en la destrucción de la hija de mi pueblo.
The hands of merciful women cooked their own children: they became food unto them in the downfall of the daughter of my people.
11 Yahvé ha cumplido su ira. Ha derramado su feroz ira. Ha encendido un fuego en Sión, que ha devorado sus cimientos.
The Lord hath let loose all his fury: he hath poured out the fierceness of his anger: and he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured her foundations.
12 Los reyes de la tierra no creyeron, tampoco lo hicieron todos los habitantes del mundo, que el adversario y el enemigo entrarían por las puertas de Jerusalén.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not believe that an adversary or an enemy could ever enter within the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Es por los pecados de sus profetas y las iniquidades de sus sacerdotes, que han derramado la sangre de los justos en medio de ella.
[But it hath happened] because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.
14 Vagan como ciegos por las calles. Están contaminados con sangre, Para que los hombres no puedan tocar sus prendas.
They wandered about blindly in the streets, they became defiled with blood; so that men were not able to touch their garments.
15 “¡Vete!”, les gritaron. “¡Impuro! ¡Vete! ¡Vete! ¡No toques! Cuando huyeron y vagaron, los hombres dijeron entre las naciones, “Ya no pueden vivir aquí”.
Depart, ye unclean, they called out unto them: depart, depart, touch not. So they flee away and also wander about: men say among the nations, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 La ira de Yahvé los ha dispersado. Ya no les prestará atención. No respetaron las personas de los sacerdotes. No favorecieron a los ancianos.
The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more look at them: the faces of the priests they respected not, and the elders they spared not.
17 Nuestros ojos siguen fallando, buscando en vano nuestra ayuda. En nuestra vigilancia hemos velado por una nación que no podía salvar.
Even now our eyes anxiously wait for our valueless help: in our waiting have we waited for a nation that cannot help.
18 Cazan nuestros pasos, para que no podamos ir por nuestras calles. Nuestro fin está cerca. Nuestros días se cumplen, porque nuestro fin ha llegado.
They hunt our steps, that we cannot walk in our streets: our end is near, our days are full: for our end is come.
19 Nuestros perseguidores eran más veloces que las águilas del cielo. Nos persiguieron en las montañas. Nos tendieron una emboscada en el desierto.
Swifter were our pursuers than the eagles of heaven: upon the mountains did they hotly follow us: in the wilderness did they lie in wait for us.
20 El aliento de nuestras narices, el ungido de Yahvé, fue tomada en sus fosas; de quien dijimos, bajo su sombra viviremos entre las naciones.
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was caught in their pits, he, of whom we said, Under his shadow shall we live among the nations.
21 Regocíjate y alégrate, hija de Edom, que habita en la tierra de Uz. La copa también pasará por ti. Estarás borracho, y se desnudará.
Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of 'Uz: also unto thee shall the cup pass; thou wilt be drunken, and make thyself naked.
22 El castigo de tu iniquidad se ha cumplido, hija de Sión. Ya no te llevará al cautiverio. Él visitará tu iniquidad, hija de Edom. Él descubrirá tus pecados.
Brought to an end is thy iniquity, O daughter of Zion; He will no more carry thee away into exile: He visiteth thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He layeth open thy sins.
