Josué 4

1 Cuando toda la nación hubo cruzado completamente el Jordán, Yahvé habló a Josué, diciendo:

And when the people had completely passed over Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,

2 “Toma doce hombres del pueblo, un hombre de cada tribu,

Take men from the people, one of each tribe,

3 y mándales decir: “Toma de la mitad del Jordán, del lugar donde los pies de los sacerdotes estaban firmes, doce piedras, llévalas contigo y ponlas en el lugar donde acamparás esta noche.”

and charge them; and you shall take out of the midst of Jordan twelve fit stones, and having carried them across together with yourselves, place them in your camp, where you shall encamp for the night.

4 Entonces Josué llamó a los doce hombres que había preparado de los hijos de Israel, un hombre de cada tribu.

And Joshua having called twelve men of distinction among the children of Israel, one of each tribe,

5 Josué les dijo: “Crucen delante del arca de Yahvé su Dios hasta la mitad del Jordán, y cada uno de ustedes tome una piedra y póngasela al hombro, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel;

said to them, Advance before me in the presence of the Lord into the midst of Jordan, and each having taken up a stone from thence, let him carry it on his shoulders, according to the number of the twelve tribes of Israel:

6 para que esto sea una señal entre ustedes, de modo que cuando sus hijos pregunten en el futuro, diciendo: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”

that these may be to you continually for an appointed sign, that when your son asks you in future, saying, What are these stones to us?

7 entonces les dirán: “Porque las aguas del Jordán fueron cortadas delante del arca del pacto de Yahvé. Cuando cruzó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán fueron cortadas. Estas piedras serán para memoria de los hijos de Israel para siempre’”.

then you may explain to your son, saying, The river Jordan was dried up from before the ark of the covenant of the Lord of the whole earth, when it passed it: and these stones shall be for a memorial for you for the children of Israel for ever.

8 Los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que Josué les había ordenado, y tomaron doce piedras del medio del Jordán, tal como el Señor le había dicho a Josué, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel. Las llevaron consigo hasta el lugar donde acamparon, y las depositaron allí.

And the children of Israel did so, as the Lord commanded Joshua; and they took up twelve stones out of the midst of Jordan, (as the Lord commanded Joshua, when the children of Israel had completely passed over, ) and carried these stones with them into the camp, and laid them down there.

9 Josué levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde estaban los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca de la alianza; y allí están hasta el día de hoy.

And Joshua set also other twelve stones in Jordan itself, in the place that was under the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord; and there they are to this day.

10 Porque los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca se pararon en medio del Jordán hasta que se terminó todo lo que el Señor le había ordenado a Josué que dijera al pueblo, según todo lo que Moisés le había ordenado a Josué; y el pueblo se apresuró a pasar.

And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant stood in Jordan, until Joshua [had] finished all that the Lord commanded him to report to the people; and the people hasted and passed over.

11 Cuando todo el pueblo hubo cruzado completamente, el arca de Yahvé cruzó con los sacerdotes en presencia del pueblo.

And it came to pass when all the people had passed over, that the ark of the covenant of the Lord passed over, and the stones before them.

12 Los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés pasaron armados delante de los hijos de Israel, tal como Moisés les había dicho.

And the sons of Ruben, and the sons of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasse passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses commanded them.

13 Unos cuarenta mil hombres, listos y armados para la guerra, pasaron delante de Yahvé a la batalla, a las llanuras de Jericó.

Forty thousand armed for battle went over before the Lord to war, to the city of Jericho.

14 Aquel día, el Señor engrandeció a Josué a los ojos de todo Israel, y le temieron como a Moisés todos los días de su vida.

In that day the Lord magnified Joshua before all the people of Israel; and they feared him, as [they did] Moses, as long as he lived.

15 Yahvé habló a Josué, diciendo:

And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying,

16 “Ordena a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca de la alianza que suban del Jordán”.

Charge the priests that bear the ark of the covenant of the testimony of the Lord, to go up out of Jordan.

17 Por eso Josué ordenó a los sacerdotes diciendo: “¡Suban del Jordán!”

And Joshua charged the priests, saying, Go up out of Jordan.

18 Cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca de la alianza de Yahvé subieron por la mitad del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes se alzaron hasta la tierra seca, las aguas del Jordán volvieron a su lugar y se desbordaron por todas sus orillas, como antes.

And it came to pass when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord were gone up out of Jordan, and set their feet upon the land, [that] the water of Jordan returned impetuously to its place, and went as before over all its banks.

19 El pueblo subió del Jordán el décimo día del primer mes y acampó en Gilgal, en el límite oriental de Jericó.

And the people went up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month; and the children of Israel encamped in Galgala in the region eastward from Jericho.

20 Josué colocó en Gilgal las doce piedras que sacaron del Jordán.

And Joshua set these twelve stones which he took out of Jordan, in Galgala,

21 Habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: “Cuando vuestros hijos pregunten a sus padres en el futuro, diciendo: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”

saying, When your sons ask you, saying, What are these stones?

22 Entonces se lo haréis saber a vuestros hijos, diciendo: “Israel pasó este Jordán en seco.

Tell your sons, that Israel went over this Jordan on dry land,

23 Porque Yahvé vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de ti hasta que cruzaste, como Yahvé vuestro Dios hizo con el Mar Rojo, que secó delante de nosotros hasta que cruzamos,

when the Lord our God had dried up the water of Jordan from before them, until they had passed over; as the Lord our God did to the Red Sea, which the Lord our God dried up from before us, until we passed over.

24 para que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que la mano de Yahvé es poderosa, y para que temas a Yahvé vuestro Dios para siempre.’”

That all the nations of the earth might know, that the power of the Lord is mighty, and that you might worship the Lord our God in every work.
