Josué 24

1 Josué reunió a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, y llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus jefes, a sus jueces y a sus oficiales, y se presentaron ante Dios.

Then Joshua assembled all the tribes of Israel at Shechem. He summoned the elders, leaders, judges, and officers of Israel, and they presented themselves before God.

2 Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: “Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘Vuestros padres vivieron antiguamente al otro lado del río, Téraj, padre de Abraham, y padre de Nacor. Ellos sirvieron a otros dioses.

And Joshua said to all the people, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Long ago your fathers, including Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, lived beyond the Euphrates and worshiped other gods.

3 Yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del río y lo conduje por toda la tierra de Canaán, y multipliqué su descendencia, y le di a Isaac.

But I took your father Abraham from beyond the Euphrates and led him through all the land of Canaan, and I multiplied his descendants. I gave him Isaac,

4 A Isaac le di Jacob y Esaú, y a Esaú le di el monte Seír para que lo poseyera. Jacob y sus hijos descendieron a Egipto.

and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. I gave Esau Mount Seir to possess, but Jacob and his sons went down to Egypt.

5 “‘Yo envié a Moisés y a Aarón, y plagué a Egipto, según lo que hice entre ellos; y después os saqué.

Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and afterward I brought you out.

6 Yo saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto, y llegasteis al mar. Los egipcios persiguieron a vuestros padres con carros y con jinetes hasta el Mar Rojo.

When I brought your fathers out of Egypt and you reached the Red Sea, the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea.

7 Cuando clamaron a Yahvé, él puso tinieblas entre vosotros y los egipcios, e hizo que el mar los cubriera; y vuestros ojos vieron lo que hice en Egipto. Ustedes vivieron en el desierto muchos días.

So your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He put darkness between you and the Egyptians, over whom He brought the sea and engulfed them. Your very eyes saw what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.

8 “‘Yo te llevé a la tierra de los amorreos, que vivían al otro lado del Jordán. Ellos pelearon contigo, y yo los entregué en tu mano. Tú poseíste su tierra, y yo los destruí delante de ti.

Later, I brought you to the land of the Amorites who lived beyond the Jordan. They fought against you, but I delivered them into your hand, that you should possess their land when I destroyed them before you.

9 Entonces Balac, hijo de Zipor, rey de Moab, se levantó y luchó contra Israel. Envió y llamó a Balaam hijo de Beor para que te maldijera,

Then Balak son of Zippor, the king of Moab, set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you,

10 pero yo no quise escuchar a Balaam, por lo que te siguió bendiciendo. Así que te libré de su mano.

but I would not listen to Balaam. So he blessed you again and again, and I delivered you from his hand.

11 “‘Pasasteis el Jordán y llegasteis a Jericó. Los hombres de Jericó pelearon contra ti, el amorreo, el ferezeo, el cananeo, el hitita, el gergeseo, el heveo y el jebuseo; y yo los entregué en tu mano.

After this, you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. The people of Jericho fought against you, as did the Amorites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I delivered them into your hand.

12 Envié el avispero delante de ti, que los expulsó de tu presencia, a los dos reyes de los amorreos; no con tu espada ni con tu arco.

I sent the hornet ahead of you, and it drove out the two Amorite kings before you, but not by your own sword or bow.

13 Te di una tierra en la que no habías trabajado, y ciudades que no habías construido, y vives en ellas. Comes de viñas y olivares que no plantaste’.

So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities that you did not build, and now you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant.’

14 “Ahora, pues, temed a Yahvé y servidle con sinceridad y con verdad. Dejad los dioses a los que vuestros padres sirvieron al otro lado del río, en Egipto, y servid a Yahvé.

Now, therefore, fear the LORD and serve Him in sincerity and truth; cast aside the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.

15 Si os parece mal servir a Yahvé, elegid hoy a quién serviréis; si a los dioses a los que sirvieron vuestros padres que estaban al otro lado del río, o a los dioses de los amorreos, en cuya tierra habitáis; pero en cuanto a mí y a mi casa, serviremos a Yahvé.”

But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”

16 El pueblo respondió: “Lejos de nosotros abandonar a Yahvé para servir a otros dioses;

The people replied, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve other gods!

17 porque es Yahvé nuestro Dios quien nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre, y quien hizo esas grandes señales ante nuestros ojos, y nos preservó en todo el camino por el que fuimos, y en medio de todos los pueblos por los que pasamos.

For the LORD our God brought us and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and performed these great signs before our eyes. He also protected us throughout our journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.

18 Yahvé expulsó de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos, incluso a los amorreos que vivían en la tierra. Por eso también nosotros serviremos a Yahvé, porque él es nuestro Dios”.

And the LORD drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD, because He is our God!”

19 Josué dijo al pueblo: “No podéis servir a Yahvé, porque es un Dios santo. Es un Dios celoso. No perdonará vuestra desobediencia ni vuestros pecados.

But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God; He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your rebellion or your sins.

20 Si abandonáis a Yahvé y servís a dioses extranjeros, él se volverá y os hará el mal, y os consumirá, después de haberos hecho el bien.”

If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, He will turn and bring disaster on you and consume you, even after He has been good to you.”

21 El pueblo dijo a Josué: “No, sino que serviremos a Yahvé”.

“No!” replied the people. “We will serve the LORD!”

22 Josué dijo al pueblo: “Ustedes son testigos contra sí mismos de que ustedes mismos han elegido a Yahvé para servirle.” Dijeron: “Somos testigos”.

Then Joshua told them, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to serve the LORD.” “We are witnesses!” they said.

23 “Ahora, pues, dejad los dioses extranjeros que hay entre vosotros, e inclinad vuestro corazón hacia Yahvé, el Dios de Israel.”

“Now, therefore,” he said, “get rid of the foreign gods among you and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel.”

24 El pueblo dijo a Josué: “Serviremos a Yahvé, nuestro Dios, y escucharemos su voz”.

So the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the LORD our God and obey His voice.”

25 Aquel día Josué hizo un pacto con el pueblo, y estableció para ellos un estatuto y una ordenanza en Siquem.

On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he established for them a statute and ordinance.

26 Josué escribió estas palabras en el libro de la ley de Dios, y tomó una gran piedra y la colocó allí, debajo de la encina que estaba junto al santuario de Yahvé.

Joshua recorded these things in the Book of the Law of God. Then he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was near the sanctuary of the LORD.

27 Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: “Miren, esta piedra será testigo contra nosotros, porque ha escuchado todas las palabras de Yahvé que nos ha dicho. Será, pues, un testigo contra ustedes, para que no renieguen de su Dios”.

And Joshua said to all the people, “You see this stone. It will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words the LORD has spoken to us, and it will be a witness against you if you ever deny your God.”

28 Entonces Josué despidió al pueblo, cada uno a su heredad.

Then Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.

29 Después de estas cosas, murió Josué hijo de Nun, siervo del Señor, siendo de ciento diez años.

Some time later, Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of 110.

30 Lo enterraron en el límite de su heredad, en Timnat-sera, que está en la región montañosa de Efraín, al norte de la montaña de Gaas.

And they buried him in the land of his inheritance, at Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

31 Israel sirvió a Yahvé todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué, y había conocido toda la obra de Yahvé, que él había hecho por Israel.

Israel had served the LORD throughout the days of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had experienced all the works that the LORD had done for Israel.

32 Los huesos de José, que los hijos de Israel sacaron de Egipto, los enterraron en Siquem, en la parcela que Jacob compró a los hijos de Hamor, padre de Siquem, por cien monedas de plata. Pasaron a ser la herencia de los hijos de José.

And the bones of Joseph, which the Israelites had brought up out of Egypt, were buried at Shechem in the plot of land that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of silver. So it became an inheritance for Joseph’s descendants.

33 Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, murió. Lo enterraron en el monte de su hijo Finees, que le fue dado en la región montañosa de Efraín.

Eleazar son of Aaron also died, and they buried him at Gibeah, which had been given to his son Phinehas in the hill country of Ephraim.
