Jonás 3
1 La palabra de Yahvé vino a Jonás por segunda vez, diciendo:
And the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2 “Levántate, ve a Nínive, esa gran ciudad, y predícale el mensaje que te doy.”
Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the preaching that I bid thee.
3 Jonás se levantó y se dirigió a Nínive, según la palabra de Yahvé. Nínive era una ciudad muy grande, que estaba a tres días de camino.
So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
4 Jonás comenzó a entrar en la ciudad a un día de camino, y gritó diciendo: “¡Dentro de cuarenta días, Nínive será destruida!”
And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 El pueblo de Nínive creyó a Dios, y proclamó un ayuno y se vistió de cilicio, desde el más grande hasta el más pequeño.
So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 La noticia llegó a oídos del rey de Nínive, quien se levantó de su trono, se quitó el manto real, se cubrió de cilicio y se sentó en cenizas.
For word came to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 Hizo una proclama y la publicó por Nínive por decreto del rey y de sus nobles, diciendo: “Que ni el hombre ni el animal, ni la manada ni el rebaño, prueben nada; que no se alimenten ni beban agua;
And he caused it to be proclaimed and declared through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 sino que se cubran de cilicio, tanto el hombre como el animal, y que clamen poderosamente a Dios. Sí, que se conviertan todos de su mal camino y de la violencia que hay en sus manos.
But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 ¿Quién sabe si Dios no se convertirá y se arrepentirá, y se apartará de su feroz ira, para que no perezcamos?”
Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 Dios vio sus obras, que se convirtieron de su mal camino. Dios cedió del desastre que dijo que les haría, y no lo hizo.
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do to them; and he did it not.
