Juan 19
1 Entonces Pilato tomó a Jesús y lo azotó.
So then Pilate took Jesus and had Him flogged.
2 Los soldados trenzaron espinas en la forma de una corona y se la pusieron en la cabeza, y lo vistieron con un manto de púrpura.
And the soldiers twisted a crown out of [poisonous] thorns and put it on His head; they also threw a purple robe around Him
3 No dejaban de decir: “¡Salve, Rey de los Judíos!” y no dejaban de abofetearle.
and started saying, “Hail, O King of the Jews!” And they slapped Him repeatedly.
4 Entonces Pilato volvió a salir y les dijo: “He aquí que os lo traigo, para que sepáis que no encuentro fundamento para una acusación contra él.”
Pilate then went out again and says to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you so that you may know that I find no crime in him at all.”
5 Salió, pues, Jesús con la corona de espinas y el manto de púrpura. Pilato les dijo: “He aquí el hombre”.
Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe; and Pilate says to them, “Look at the man!”
6 Al verlo, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los oficiales gritaron diciendo: “¡Crucifícalo! Crucifícalo!” Pilato les dijo: “Tomadlo vosotros y crucificadlo, porque no encuentro fundamento para una acusación contra él”.
Well when the chief priests and the operatives saw Him they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!” Pilate says to them, “You take and crucify him, because I find no crime in him.”
7 Los judíos le respondieron: “Nosotros tenemos una ley, y según nuestra ley debe morir, porque se hizo Hijo de Dios”.
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, because he made himself ‘Son of God’!”
8 Cuando Pilato oyó estas palabras, tuvo más miedo.
Hey, when Pilate heard this statement he was more afraid than ever!
9 Entró de nuevo en el pretorio y dijo a Jesús: “¿De dónde eres?”. Pero Jesús no le respondió.
So back into the Praetorium he went and says to Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus did not answer him.
10 Entonces Pilato le dijo: “¿No me hablas a mí? ¿No sabes que tengo poder para liberarte y tengo poder para crucificarte?”
So Pilate says to Him: “Are you not speaking to me? Don't you know that I have authority to crucify you and authority to release you?”
11 Jesús respondió: “No tendrías ningún poder contra mí, si no te fuera dado de arriba. Por tanto, el que me ha entregado a vosotros tiene un pecado mayor”.
Jesus answered: “You would have no authority over me at all if it had not been given to you from Above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”
12 Ante esto, Pilato quiso ponerlo en libertad, pero los judíos gritaron diciendo: “¡Si sueltas a este hombre, no eres amigo del César! Todo el que se hace rey habla contra el César”.
From that moment Pilate really tried to release Him; but the Jews kept shouting, saying: “If you release this fellow you are no friend of Caesar's! Whoever makes himself a king is opposing Caesar!”
13 Cuando Pilato oyó estas palabras, sacó a Jesús y se sentó en el tribunal en un lugar llamado “El Pavimento”, pero en hebreo, “Gabbatha.”
Well, upon hearing this statement Pilate led Jesus outside and sat down on the judgment seat, in a place called ‘Stone Pavement’, while in Hebrew ‘Gabatha’
14 Era el día de la preparación de la Pascua, hacia la hora sexta. Dijo a los judíos: “¡He aquí vuestro Rey!”
(now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; the hour was about six a.m.), and he says to the Jews, “Look at your king!”
15 Gritaron: “¡Fuera de aquí! ¡Fuera de aquí! Crucifíquenlo”. Pilato les dijo: “¿Debo crucificar a vuestro Rey?” Los jefes de los sacerdotes respondieron: “No tenemos más rey que el César”.
But they shouted, “Out! Out! Crucify him!” Pilate says to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
16 Entonces se lo entregó para que lo crucificaran. Tomaron, pues, a Jesús y se lo llevaron.
So then he handed Him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and lead Him away.
17 Salió, llevando su cruz, al lugar llamado “Lugar de la Calavera”, que en hebreo se llama “Gólgota”,
And carrying His cross He went out to the place called ‘Skull’, which in Hebrew is called ‘Golgotha’;
18 donde lo crucificaron, y con él a otros dos, uno a cada lado, y Jesús en medio.
there they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, with Jesus in the middle.
19 Pilato escribió también un título y lo puso en la cruz. Allí estaba escrito: “JESÚS DE NAZARET, EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS”.
Now Pilate had also written a notice, and put it on the cross; and the inscription was: JESUS THE NATSOREAN THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 Por lo tanto, muchos de los judíos leyeron este título, porque el lugar donde Jesús fue crucificado estaba cerca de la ciudad; y estaba escrito en hebreo, en latín y en griego.
So many of the Jews read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; further, it was written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin!
21 Los jefes de los judíos dijeron, pues, a Pilato: “No escribas: “El Rey de los judíos”, sino: “Dijo: “Yo soy el Rey de los judíos””.
So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Don't write, ‘The king of the Jews’, but that the fellow said, ‘I am the king of the Jews.’”
22 Pilato respondió: “Lo que he escrito, lo he escrito”.
Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written!”
23 Entonces los soldados, después de crucificar a Jesús, tomaron sus vestidos e hicieron cuatro partes, a cada soldado una parte; y también la túnica. La túnica era sin costura, tejida de arriba abajo.
Now when the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took His clothes and made four parts, a part for each soldier. They also took His tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top.
24 Entonces se dijeron unos a otros: “No la rasguemos, sino echemos suertes para decidir de quién será”, para que se cumpla la Escritura que dice “Se repartieron mis ropas entre ellos. Echan a suertes mi ropa”. Por eso los soldados hicieron estas cosas.
So they said among themselves, “Let's not rip it, but toss for it, to see whose it will be,” so that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: “They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they cast a lot.” That is why the soldiers did these things.
25 Pero junto a la cruz de Jesús estaban su madre, la hermana de su madre, María la mujer de Cleofás y María Magdalena.
Now Jesus' mother and her sister, Mary of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene were standing by His cross.
26 Por eso, al ver Jesús a su madre y al discípulo al que amaba que estaban allí, dijo a su madre: “Mujer, ahí tienes a tu hijo”.
So Jesus, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He says to His mother, “Woman, there is your son!”
27 Luego dijo al discípulo: “¡He ahí a tu madre! A partir de esa hora, el discípulo se la llevó a su casa.
Then He says to the disciple, “There is your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
28 Después de esto, Jesús, viendo que todo estaba ya terminado, para que se cumpliera la Escritura, dijo: “¡Tengo sed!”
After this, knowing that everything was now accomplished so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus says, “I'm thirsty!”
29 Se puso allí una vasija llena de vinagre; entonces pusieron una esponja llena de vinagre sobre un hisopo, y se la acercaron a la boca.
Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; so they filled a sponge with sour wine, placed it on a hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30 Así pues, cuando Jesús recibió el vinagre, dijo: “¡Se acabó!”. Entonces inclinó la cabeza y entregó su espíritu.
Then, when He had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “Paid in full!” And bowing His head He dismissed His spirit.
31 Por lo tanto, los judíos, como era el día de la preparación, para que los cuerpos no permanecieran en la cruz durante el día de reposo (pues ese día de reposo era especial), pidieron a Pilato que les quebraran las piernas y se los llevaran.
Now then, because it was Preparation Day, so that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews requested Pilate that their legs might be broken and they be removed.
32 Vinieron, pues, los soldados y rompieron las piernas del primero y del otro que estaba crucificado con él;
Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the other one who had been crucified with Him.
33 pero cuando llegaron a Jesús y vieron que ya estaba muerto, no le rompieron las piernas.
But upon coming to Jesus, they did not break His legs, since they saw that He had already died.
34 Sin embargo, uno de los soldados le atravesó el costado con una lanza, e inmediatamente salió sangre y agua.
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 El que ha visto ha dado testimonio, y su testimonio es verdadero. Sabe que dice la verdad, para que creáis.
And the one who saw has testified, and his testimony is true (yes, he knows he is telling the truth), so that you may believe.
36 Porque estas cosas sucedieron para que se cumpliera la Escritura: “Un hueso de él no será quebrado”.
Because these things happened so that the Scripture should be fulfilled: “Not a bone of His will be broken.”
37 Otra Escritura dice: “Mirarán al que traspasaron”.
And again another Scripture says: “They will look on Him whom they pierced.”
38 Después de estas cosas, José de Arimatea, que era discípulo de Jesús, pero en secreto por miedo a los judíos, pidió a Pilato poder llevarse el cuerpo de Jesús. Pilato le dio permiso. Vino, pues, y se llevó el cuerpo.
After these things Joseph, the one from Arimathea (being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews), requested Pilate that he might remove the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave permission. So he came and removed Jesus' body.
39 Nicodemo, que al principio se acercó a Jesús de noche, vino también trayendo una mezcla de mirra y áloes, como cien libras romanas.
Now Nicodemus also came (the one who at first came to Jesus by night), bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.
40 Tomaron, pues, el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en telas de lino con las especias, según la costumbre de los judíos de enterrarlo.
Then they took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen strips, with the aromatic spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews.
41 En el lugar donde fue crucificado había un jardín. En el jardín había un sepulcro nuevo en el que nunca se había puesto a nadie.
Now at the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been buried.
42 Entonces, a causa del día de preparación de los judíos (pues el sepulcro estaba cerca), pusieron allí a Jesús.
So that is where they put Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, since the tomb was nearby.
