1 “¿Puedes sacar al Leviatán con un anzuelo? o presionar su lengua con una cuerda?
Can you pull out Leviathan with a hook? Can you tie its mouth shut?
2 ¿Puedes poner una cuerda en su nariz, o atravesar su mandíbula con un gancho?
Can you thread a rope through its nose? Can you pass a hook through its jaw?
3 Te hará muchas peticiones, ¿o te hablará con palabras suaves?
Will it beg you to let it go? Or will it talk softly to you?
4 Hará un pacto con vosotros, para que lo tomes por siervo para siempre?
Will it make a contract with you? Will it agree to be your slave forever?
5 ¿Jugarás con él como con un pájaro? ¿O lo atarás para tus chicas?
Will you play with it like a pet bird? Will you put it on a leash for your girls?
6 ¿Los comerciantes harán un trueque por él? ¿Lo repartirán entre los comerciantes?
Will your trading partners decide on a price for him, and divide him up among the merchants?
7 Puede llenar su piel con hierros de púas, o su cabeza con lanzas de pescado?
Can you pierce his skin with many harpoons, its head with fishing spears?
8 Pon tu mano sobre él. Recuerda la batalla, y no lo hagas más.
If you were to grab hold of it, imagine the battle you would have! You wouldn't do that again!
9 He aquí que la esperanza de él es vana. ¿No se abatirá uno incluso al verlo?
Any hope to capture it is foolish. Anyone who tries is thrown to the ground.
10 Nadie es tan feroz que se atreva a agitarlo. ¿Quién es, pues, el que puede presentarse ante mí?
Since no one has the courage to provoke Leviathan, who would dare to stand up against me?

Its pride is its rows of scales, closed tightly together.

Its scales are so close together that no air can pass between them.
17 Están unidos entre sí. Se pegan entre sí, de modo que no se pueden separar.
Each scale attaches to the next; they lock together and nothing can penetrate them.
18 Su estornudo hace brillar la luz. Sus ojos son como los párpados de la mañana.
When it sneezes light shines out. Its eyes are like the rising sun.
19 De su boca salen antorchas ardientes. Saltan chispas de fuego.
Flames pour from its mouth, sparks of fire shoot out.
20 De sus fosas nasales sale un humo, como de una olla hirviendo sobre un fuego de cañas.
Smoke comes from its nostrils, like steam from a kettle on a fire made of reeds.
21 Su aliento enciende las brasas. Una llama sale de su boca.
Its breath sets fire to charcoal as flames shoot from its mouth.
22 Hay fuerza en su cuello. El terror baila ante él.
Its neck is powerful, and all who face him shake with terror.
23 Las escamas de su carne están unidas. Son firmes con él. No se pueden mover.
Its body is dense and solid, as if it is made from cast metal.
24 Su corazón es firme como una piedra, sí, firme como la piedra de molino inferior.
Its heart is rock-hard, like a millstone.
25 Cuando se levanta, los poderosos tienen miedo. Se retiran ante su paliza.
When it rises, even the powerful are terrified; they retreat as it thrashes about.
26 Si uno lo ataca con la espada, no puede prevalecer; ni la lanza, ni el dardo, ni el asta puntiaguda.
Swords just bounce off it, as do spears, darts, and javelins.
27 Cuenta el hierro como paja, y el bronce como la madera podrida.
It brushes aside iron like straw, and bronze like rotten wood.
28 La flecha no puede hacerle huir. Las piedras de la honda son como la paja para él.
Arrows cannot make it run away; stones from slingshots are like pieces of stubble.
29 Los palos se cuentan como rastrojos. Se ríe de las prisas de la jabalina.
Clubs are also treated like stubble; it laughs at the sound made by flying spears.
30 Sus partes inferiores son como alfareros afilados, dejando un rastro en el barro como un trineo.
Its underparts are covered with points as sharp as broken pots; when it drags itself through the mud it leaves marks like a threshing sledge.
31 Hace que lo profundo hierva como una olla. Hace que el mar sea como un bote de pomada.
It churns up the sea like water in a boiling pot, like a steaming bowl when ointment is mixed.
32 Hace brillar un camino tras él. Se diría que el profundo tiene el pelo blanco.
It leaves a glistening wake behind it as if the sea had white hair.
33 En la tierra no hay nada igual, que se hace sin miedo.
There is nothing on earth like it: a creature that has no fear.
34 Él ve todo lo que es alto. Es el rey de todos los hijos de la soberbia”.
It looks down on all other creatures. It is the proudest of all.”
