Job 28
1 “Seguramente hay una mina de plata, y un lugar para el oro que refinan.
For there is a place for the silver, whence it comes, and a place for the gold, whence it is refined.
2 El hierro se extrae de la tierra, y el cobre se funde a partir del mineral.
For iron comes out of the earth, and brass is hewn out like stone.
3 El hombre pone fin a la oscuridad, y busca, hasta el límite más lejano, las piedras de la oscuridad y de la espesa oscuridad.
He has set a bound to darkness, and he searches out every limit: a stone [is] darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Abre un pozo lejos de donde vive la gente. Se olvidan por el pie. Cuelgan lejos de los hombres, se balancean de un lado a otro.
There is a cutting off the torrent by reason of dust: so they that forget the right way are weakened; they are removed from [among] men.
5 En cuanto a la tierra, de ella sale el pan. Por debajo, está volteado como si fuera por el fuego.
[As for] the earth, out of it shall come bread: under it has been turned up as it were fire.
6 Los zafiros proceden de sus rocas. Tiene polvo de oro.
Her stones are the place of the sapphire: and [her] dust [supplies] man with gold.
7 Ese camino no lo conoce ningún ave de rapiña, tampoco lo ha visto el ojo del halcón.
[There is] a path, the fowl has not known it, neither has the eye of the vulture seen it:
8 Los animales orgullosos no la han pisado, ni el león feroz ha pasado por allí.
neither have the sons of the proud trodden it, a lion has not passed upon it.
9 Pone la mano en la roca de pedernal, y derriba los montes de raíz.
He has stretched forth his hand on the sharp [rock], and turned up mountains by the roots:
10 Él corta canales entre las rocas. Su ojo ve cada cosa preciosa.
and he has interrupted the whirlpools of rivers, and mine eye has seen every precious thing.
11 Él ata los arroyos para que no se rieguen. Lo que está oculto lo saca a la luz.
And he has laid bare the depths of rivers, and has brought his power to light.
12 “Pero, ¿dónde se encontrará la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar del entendimiento?
But whence has wisdom been discovered? and what is the place of knowledge?
13 El hombre no conoce su precio, y no se encuentra en la tierra de los vivos.
A mortal has not known its way, neither indeed has it been discovered among men.
14 Lo profundo dice: “No está en mí”. El mar dice: “No está conmigo”.
The depth said, It is not in me: and the sea said, It is not with me.
15 No se puede conseguir por oro, tampoco se pesará la plata por su precio.
One shall not give fine gold instead of it, neither shall silver be weighed in exchange for it.
16 No se puede valorar con el oro de Ofir, con el precioso ónix, o el zafiro.
Neither shall it be compared with gold of Sophir, with the precious onyx and sapphire.
17 El oro y el cristal no pueden igualarlo, ni se cambiará por joyas de oro fino.
Gold and crystal shall not be equalled to it, neither shall vessels of gold be its exchange.
18 No se mencionará el coral ni el cristal. Sí, el precio de la sabiduría está por encima de los rubíes.
Coral and fine pearl shall not be mentioned: but do you esteem wisdom above the most precious things.
19 El topacio de Etiopía no lo igualará. No se valorará con oro puro.
The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be equalled to it; it shall not be compared with pure gold.
20 ¿De dónde viene entonces la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar del entendimiento?
Whence then is wisdom found? and of what kind is the place of understanding?
21 Verlo está oculto a los ojos de todos los vivos, y se mantuvo cerca de las aves del cielo.
It has escaped the notice of every man, and has been hidden from the birds of the sky.
22 La destrucción y la muerte dicen, ‘Hemos oído el rumor con nuestros oídos’.
Destruction and Death said, We have heard the report of it.
23 “Dios entiende su camino, y conoce su lugar.
God has well ordered the way of it, and he knows the place of it.
24 Porque mira hasta los confines de la tierra, y ve bajo todo el cielo.
For he surveys the whole [earth] under heaven, knowing the things in the earth:
25 Él establece la fuerza del viento. Sí, mide las aguas por medida.
all that he has made; the weight of the winds, the measures of the water.
26 Cuando hizo un decreto para la lluvia, y un camino para el relámpago del trueno,
When he made [them], thus he saw and numbered them, and made a way for the pealing of the thunder.
27 entonces lo vio y lo declaró. Lo estableció, sí, y lo buscó.
Then he saw it, and declared it: he prepared it [and] traced it out.
28 Al hombre le dijo, He aquí el temor del Señor, que es la sabiduría. Apartarse del mal es la comprensión’”.
And he said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.
