Jeremías 7

1 Palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte de Yahvé, diciendo:

The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

2 “Ponte en la puerta de la casa de Yahvé y proclama allí esta palabra, y di: “Oíd la palabra de Yahvé, todos los de Judá, que entráis por estas puertas para adorar a Yahvé”.

Stand in the gate of the house of Jehovah, and proclaim these words, and say: —Hear the word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, Who enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah!

3 El Señor de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Enmendad vuestros caminos y vuestras acciones, y os haré habitar en este lugar.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, And I will suffer you to dwell in this place!

4 No confíes en palabras mentirosas, diciendo: ‘Templo de Yahvé, templo de Yahvé, templo de Yahvé, son estos’.

Trust ye not in lying words, when they say, “The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, The temple of Jehovah are these.”

5 Porque si enmendáis bien vuestros caminos y vuestras acciones, si hacéis bien la justicia entre el hombre y su prójimo;

Yet if ye will thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, And dispense justice between man and man,

6 si no oprimís al extranjero, al huérfano y a la viuda, y no derramáis sangre inocente en este lugar, y no andáis en pos de otros dioses para vuestro propio mal,

If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, And shed not innocent blood in this place, And go not after other gods to your own hurt,

7 entonces haré que habitéis en este lugar, en la tierra que di a vuestros padres, desde siempre y para siempre.

Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, In the land which I gave to your fathers, For ever and ever.

8 He aquí que ustedes confían en palabras mentirosas que no pueden aprovechar.

Behold, ye trust in lying words without profit.

9 ¿Robaréis, asesinaréis, cometeréis adulterio, juraréis en falso, quemaréis incienso a Baal y caminaréis en pos de otros dioses que no habéis conocido,

Ye steal, and murder, and commit adultery, And swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, And go after strange gods, which ye know not,

10 y luego vendréis y os presentaréis ante mí en esta casa, que se llama con mi nombre, y diréis: “Estamos liberados”, para hacer todas estas abominaciones?

And then come and stand before me in this house, Which is called by my name, And say, “We are delivered!” Whilst ye practise all these abominations.

11 ¿Se ha convertido esta casa, que se llama con mi nombre, en una cueva de ladrones a vuestros ojos? He aquí que yo mismo lo he visto”, dice Yahvé.

Is this house, which is called by my name, Become a den for robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, saith Jehovah.

12 “Pero ve ahora a mi lugar que estaba en Silo, donde hice habitar mi nombre al principio, y mira lo que le hice por la maldad de mi pueblo Israel.

But go now to my place, which was in Shiloh, Where I caused my name to dwell at the first, And see what I have done to it On account of the wickedness of my people Israel.

13 Ahora bien, como has hecho todas estas obras — dice el Señor — y te hablé, madrugando y hablando, pero no oíste; y te llamé, pero no respondiste;

And now because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, And I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking, But ye hearkened not, And I have called to you, But ye answered not,

14 por lo tanto, haré con la casa que lleva mi nombre, en la que confías, y con el lugar que te di a ti y a tus padres, lo mismo que hice con Silo.

Therefore will I do to the house which is called by my name, In which ye place your confidence, And to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, As I have done to Shiloh.

15 Te echaré de mi vista, como he echado a todos tus hermanos, a toda la descendencia de Efraín.

I will cast you out from my presence, As I have cast out all your brethren, The whole race of Ephraim.

16 “Por lo tanto, no oren por este pueblo. No eleven un clamor o una oración por ellos ni me intercedan, porque no los escucharé.

And as for thee, pray not for this people, Nor lift up a cry or a prayer for them, Nor make intercession to me for them; For I will not hear thee.

17 ¿No ves lo que hacen en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén?

Seest thou not what they do In the cities of Judah, and the streets of Jerusalem?

18 Los niños recogen leña, los padres encienden el fuego y las mujeres amasan la masa para hacer tortas a la reina del cielo y derramar libaciones a otros dioses, para provocarme a la ira.

The sons gather the wood, And the fathers kindle the fire, And the women knead dough, To make cakes for the queen of heaven, And to pour out libations to strange gods, That they may vex me.

19 ¿Acaso me provocan a la ira?”, dice el Señor. “¿No se provocan a sí mismos, para confusión de sus propios rostros?”

But do they vex me, saith Jehovah? Do they not rather vex themselves, to the confusion of their own faces?

20 Por eso dice el Señor Yahvé: “He aquí que mi cólera y mi ira se derramarán sobre este lugar, sobre el hombre, sobre el animal, sobre los árboles del campo y sobre el fruto de la tierra; y arderá y no se apagará.”

Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold my anger and my fury shall be poured out on this place, Upon man and upon beast; Upon the trees of the field, And upon the fruit of the ground; It shall burn and not be quenched.

21 Yahvé de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Añadan sus holocaustos a sus sacrificios y coman carne.

Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings to your sacrifices, And eat ye the flesh.

22 Porque no hablé con vuestros padres ni les ordené el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto sobre holocaustos o sacrificios;

For I spake not to your fathers, nor commanded them Concerning burnt-offerings and sacrifices, At the time when I brought them out of the land of Egypt;

23 sino que les ordené esto, diciendo: ‘Escuchad mi voz, y yo seré vuestro Dios, y vosotros seréis mi pueblo. Caminen en todo el camino que yo les mando, para que les vaya bien’.

But this command gave I to them: “Hearken,” said I, “to my voice, And I will be your God, And ye shall be my people. And walk ye in all the ways which I command you, That it may go well with you.”

24 Pero ellos no escucharon ni prestaron atención, sino que caminaron en sus propios consejos y en la terquedad de su malvado corazón, y fueron hacia atrás y no hacia adelante.

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, But walked in the devices and obstinacy of their evil heart, Turning their backs and not their faces toward me.

25 Desde el día en que vuestros padres salieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy, os he enviado a todos mis siervos los profetas, madrugando cada día y enviándolos.

From the day when your fathers came forth from the land of Egypt, Even to this day, I have also sent to you all my servants, the prophets, Daily rising early and sending.

26 Sin embargo, no me escucharon ni inclinaron su oído, sino que endurecieron su cuello. Hicieron peor que sus padres.

But they have not hearkened to me, Nor have they inclined their ear; But they have hardened their neck, And acted more wickedly than their fathers.

27 “Les dirás todas estas palabras, pero no te escucharán. También los llamarás, pero no te responderán.

And when thou shalt speak all these things to them, They will not hearken to thee; And when thou shalt call to them, They will make thee no answer.

28 Les dirás: ‘Esta es la nación que no ha escuchado la voz de Yahvé, su Dios, ni ha recibido instrucción. La verdad ha perecido, y está cortada de su boca’.

Therefore shalt thou say to them, This is the nation that hearkeneth not to the voice of Jehovah their God, And taketh no correction; Truth hath failed, and is cut off from their mouth.

29 Córtate el cabello y arrójalo, y levanta un lamento en las alturas desnudas, porque Yahvé ha rechazado y abandonado a la generación de su ira.

Cut off thy locks, O Jerusalem, and cast them away! Set up a lamentation upon the high place! For Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the children Against which his wrath hath been kindled.

30 “Porque los hijos de Judá han hecho lo que es malo a mis ojos”, dice el Señor. “Han puesto sus abominaciones en la casa que se llama con mi nombre, para profanarla.

For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith Jehovah, They have set their abominations in the house Which is called by my name, to pollute it.

31 Han edificado los lugares altos de Tofet, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para quemar en el fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas, cosa que yo no ordené, ni se me ocurrió.

They have built the high places of Tophet, Which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, To burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, Which I commanded not, Which even came not into my mind.

32 Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días — dice Yahvé — en que ya no se llamará ‘Tofet’ ni ‘Valle del hijo de Hinom’, sino ‘Valle de la Matanza’; porque enterrarán en Tofet hasta que no haya lugar para enterrar.

Therefore behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, That it shall no more be called Tophet, Or the valley of the son of Hinnom, But the Valley of Slaughter; For they shall bury in Tophet till there be no room left.

33 Los cadáveres de este pueblo serán alimento para las aves del cielo y para los animales de la tierra. Nadie los espantará.

And the dead bodies of this people shall be for meat To the birds of the air and to the beasts of the earth; And none shall scare them away.

34 Entonces haré cesar de las ciudades de Judá y de las calles de Jerusalén la voz de júbilo y la voz de alegría, la voz del novio y la voz de la novia; porque la tierra se convertirá en un desierto.”

And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, And from the streets of Jerusalem, The voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, The voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; For the land shall be desolate.
