Jeremías 41
1 En el mes séptimo, Ismael hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la estirpe real y uno de los principales funcionarios del rey, y diez hombres con él, vinieron a Gedalías hijo de Ajicam a Mizpa, y allí comieron juntos el pan en Mizpa.
Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah the son of Elishama', of the royal seed, and the chiefs of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mizpah; and they ate there bread together in Mizpah.
2 Entonces se levantó Ismael hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que estaban con él, e hirieron con la espada a Gedalías hijo de Ajicam, hijo de Safán, y lo mataron, a quien el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador del país.
Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedalyahu the son of Achikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and put to death him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land.
3 Ismael también mató a todos los judíos que estaban con Gedalías en Mizpa, y a los hombres de guerra caldeos que se encontraban allí.
And all the Jews that were with him, even with Gedalyahu, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, even the men of war, did Ishmael slay.
4 El segundo día después de haber matado a Gedalías, y sin que nadie lo supiera,
And it came to pass on the second day after he had put Gedalyahu to death, while no man knew of it,
5 vinieron hombres de Siquem, de Silo y de Samaria, hasta ochenta hombres, con las barbas afeitadas y las ropas rasgadas y cortadas, con ofrendas de harina e incienso en la mano, para llevarlos a la casa de Yahvé.
That there came certain men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men [in all], having their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with meat-offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring the same to the house of the Lord.
6 Ismael, hijo de Netanías, salió de Mizpa a recibirlos, llorando a su paso, y al encontrarlos les dijo: “Vengan a Gedalías, hijo de Ajicam.”
And Ishmael the son of Nethanyah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, going along and weeping: and it came to pass as he met them, that he said unto them, Come to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam.
7 Cuando llegaron al centro de la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, los mató y los arrojó en medio del pozo, a él y a los hombres que estaban con él.
And it happened, as they entered into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah slaughtered them, [and cast them] into the midst of the cistern, he, and the men that were with him.
8 Pero se encontraron diez hombres entre los que dijeron a Ismael: “No nos mates, porque tenemos reservas escondidas en el campo, de trigo, de cebada, de aceite y de miel.” Así que se detuvo, y no los mató entre sus hermanos.
But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not; for we have some things hidden in the field, [such as] wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. So he forbore, and slew them not in the midst of their brethren.
9 Ahora bien, la fosa en la que Ismael arrojó todos los cadáveres de los hombres que había matado, junto a Gedalías (ésta era la que el rey Asa había hecho por temor a Baasa, rey de Israel), Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó con los muertos.
And the cistern wherein Ishmael cast all the corpses of the men, whom he had slain in company with Gedalyahu, is the same which king Assa had made on account of Ba'sha the king of Israel: this did Ishmael the son of Nethanyah fill with slain persons.
10 Entonces Ismael llevó cautivo a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpa, que Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había confiado a Gedalías, hijo de Ajicam. Ismael, hijo de Netanías, los llevó cautivos, y partió para pasar a los hijos de Amón.
Then did Ishmael carry away captive all the residue of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that were remaining in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had entrusted to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethanyah carried them away captive, and went off to pass over to the children of Ammon.
11 Pero cuando Johanán hijo de Carea, y todos los capitanes de las fuerzas que estaban con él, oyeron todo el mal que había hecho Ismael hijo de Netanías,
But when Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethanyah had done:
12 entonces tomaron a todos los hombres y fueron a pelear con Ismael hijo de Netanías, y lo encontraron junto a las grandes aguas que están en Gabaón.
Then did they take all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, and found him by the great water[-pool] that is near Gib'on.
13 Cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán hijo de Carea y a todos los capitanes de las fuerzas que estaban con él, se alegraron.
And it came to pass, when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, that they were rejoiced.
14 Así que todo el pueblo que Ismael había llevado cautivo desde Mizpa se dio la vuelta y regresó, y se fue con Johanán hijo de Carea.
And all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and returned, and went unto Jochanan the son of Kareach.
15 Pero Ismael hijo de Netanías escapó de Johanán con ocho hombres, y se fue con los hijos de Amón.
But Ishmael the son of Nethanyah escaped with eight men from the presence of Jochanan, and he went to the children of 'Ammon.
16 Entonces Johanán hijo de Carea y todos los capitanes de las fuerzas que estaban con él tomaron todo el remanente del pueblo que había recuperado de Ismael hijo de Netanías, desde Mizpa, después de haber matado a Gedalías hijo de Ajicam: los hombres de guerra, con las mujeres, los niños y los eunucos, que había traído de Gabaón.
Then took Jochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the armies that were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethanyah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedalyah the son of Achikam, the adult males, the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gib'on;
17 Partieron y vivieron en Geruth Chimham, que está junto a Belén, para ir a entrar en Egipto
And they went, and remained in Geruth-Kimham, which is by Beth-lechem, to go to enter into Egypt,
18 a causa de los caldeos, pues tenían miedo de ellos, porque Ismael hijo de Netanías había matado a Gedalías hijo de Ajicam, a quien el rey de Babilonia puso como gobernador del país.
Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them; because Ishmael the son of Nethanyah had slain Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed governor over the land.
