Jeremías 3

1 “Dicen: “Si un hombre abandona a su mujer, y ella se aleja de él y pasa a ser de otro hombre, ¿debe volver a ella? ¿No estaría esa tierra muy contaminada? Pero tú has jugado a la prostitución con muchos amantes; sin embargo, vuelve otra vez a mí”, dice el Señor.

“If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's wife, will he return to her again? Would that land not be greatly polluted? You have lived as a prostitute who has many lovers; and would you return to me?—this is Yahweh's declaration.

2 “¡Levanta tus ojos a las alturas desnudas y mira! ¿Dónde no te has acostado? Te has sentado a esperarlos junto al camino, como un árabe en el desierto. Has contaminado la tierra con tu prostitución y con tu maldad.

Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and look! Is there any place where you have not had illicit sex? By the roadsides you sat waiting for your lovers, as an Arab in the wilderness. You have polluted the land with your prostitution and wickedness.

3 Por eso las lluvias han sido retenidas y no ha habido lluvia tardía; sin embargo, has tenido una frente de prostituta y no quisiste avergonzarte.

So the showers have been withheld and the spring rains have not come; yet you have the forehead of a prostitute; you refuse to be ashamed.

4 ¿No me gritarás desde ahora: ‘Padre mío, tú eres el guía de mi juventud’?

Have you not just now called to me: 'My father! My closest friend even from my youth!

5 “‘¿Conservará su ira para siempre? ¿Lo mantendrá hasta el final?’ He aquí que tú has hablado y has hecho cosas malas, y te has salido con la tuya”.

Will he always be angry? Will he always keep his wrath to the end?' Look! This is what you have said, but you do all the evil you can!”

6 Además, el Señor me dijo en los días del rey Josías: “¿Has visto lo que ha hecho el rebelde Israel? Se ha subido a todo monte alto y a todo árbol verde, y se ha prostituido allí.

Then Yahweh said to me in the days of Josiah the king, “Do you see what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up every high hill and under every leafy tree, and there she has acted like a prostitute.

7 Después de haber hecho todas estas cosas, dije: ‘Volverá a mí’; pero no volvió, y su hermana traidora, Judá, lo vio.

I said, 'After she does all these things, she will return to me,' but she did not return. Then her faithless sister Judah saw these things.

8 Vi que cuando, por esta misma causa, la rebelde Israel había cometido adulterio, yo la había repudiado y le había dado un certificado de divorcio, pero la traicionera Judá, su hermana, no tuvo miedo, sino que también fue y se hizo la prostituta.

So I saw that, in the same way that faithless Israel had committed adultery and I had sent her away and had given a bill of divorce against her, her faithless sister Judah did not fear; she also went out and acted like a prostitute.

9 Por haber tomado a la ligera su prostitución, la tierra fue contaminada, y ella cometió adulterio con piedras y con madera.

Her prostitution was nothing to her; she defiled the land, and she committed adultery with stones and trees.

10 Pero por todo esto su hermana traidora, Judá, no ha vuelto a mí con todo su corazón, sino sólo en apariencia”, dice el Señor.

Then after all of this, her faithless sister Judah returned to me, not with all her heart, but with a lie—this is Yahweh's declaration.”

11 El Señor me dijo: “El Israel renegado se ha mostrado más justo que el Judá traidor.

Then Yahweh said to me, “Faithless Israel has been more righteous than faithless Judah!

12 Ve y proclama estas palabras hacia el norte, y di: “Vuelve, Israel reincidente”, dice el Señor; “No miraré con ira hacia ti, porque soy misericordioso”, dice el Señor. No me enojaré para siempre.

Go and proclaim these words to the north. Say, 'Return, faithless Israel!—this is Yahweh's declaration—I will not always be angry with you. Since I am faithful—this is Yahweh's declaration—I will not stay angry forever.

13 Sólo reconoce tu iniquidad, que te has rebelado contra el Señor, tu Dios, y has esparcido tus caminos a los extraños debajo de todo árbol verde, y no has obedecido mi voz”, dice el Señor.

Acknowledge your iniquity, for you have transgressed against Yahweh your God; you have shared your ways with strangers under every leafy tree! For you have not listened to my voice!—this is Yahweh's declaration.

14 “Volved, hijos descarriados — dice Yahvé —, porque yo soy un esposo para vosotros. Tomaré a uno de ustedes de una ciudad, y a dos de una familia, y los llevaré a Sión.

Return, faithless people!—this is Yawheh's declaration—I am your husband! I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion!

15 Os daré pastores según mi corazón, que os alimentarán con conocimiento y comprensión.

I will give you shepherds after my heart, and they will shepherd you with knowledge and insight.

16 Sucederá que cuando os multipliquéis y crezcáis en la tierra en aquellos días — dice el Señor — ya no dirán: “¡El arca de la alianza de Yahvé! No les vendrá a la mente. No la recordarán. No la echarán de menos, ni se hará otra.

Then it will happen that you will increase and bear fruit in the land in those days—this is Yahweh's declaration-they will no longer say, “The ark of the covenant of Yahweh!” This matter will no longer come up in their hearts or be remembered; it will not be missed, and another one will not be made.'

17 En aquel tiempo llamarán a Jerusalén ‘Trono de Yahvé’; y todas las naciones se reunirán en ella, en el nombre de Yahvé, en Jerusalén. Ya no caminarán según la terquedad de su malvado corazón.

In that time they will proclaim about Jerusalem, 'This is Yahweh's throne,' and all the other nations will gather at Jerusalem in Yahweh's name. They will no longer walk in the stubbornness of their wicked hearts.

18 En esos días la casa de Judá caminará con la casa de Israel, y vendrán juntos desde la tierra del norte a la tierra que di en herencia a vuestros padres.

In those days, the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel. They will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave your ancestors as an inheritance.

19 “Pero yo dije: ‘¡Cómo quiero ponerte entre los niños y darte una tierra agradable, una buena herencia de los ejércitos de las naciones!

As for me, I said, 'How I want to treat you as my son and give you a pleasant land, an inheritance more beautiful than what is in any other nation!' I would have said, 'You will call me “my father”.' I would have said that you would not turn from following me.

20 “Ciertamente, como la esposa se aparta a traición de su marido, así me habéis tratado a traición, casa de Israel”, dice el Señor.

But like a woman faithless to her husband, you have betrayed me, house of Israel—this is Yahweh's declaration.”

21 Se oye una voz en las alturas, el llanto y las súplicas de los hijos de Israel; porque han pervertido su camino, se han olvidado de Yahvé, su Dios.

A voice is heard on the plains, the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel! For they have changed their ways; they have forgotten Yahweh their God.

22 Volved, hijos descarriados, y yo sanaré vuestro descarrío. “He aquí que hemos acudido a ti, porque tú eres Yahvé, nuestro Dios.

“Return, faithless people! I will heal you of treachery!” “Behold! We will come to you, for you are Yahweh our God!

23 En verdad, el auxilio de las colinas, el alboroto de los montes, es vano. En verdad la salvación de Israel está en Yahvé nuestro Dios.

Surely lies come from the hills, a confusing noise from the mountains; surely Yahweh our God is the salvation of Israel.

24 Pero la cosa vergonzosa ha devorado el trabajo de nuestros padres desde nuestra juventud, sus rebaños y sus manadas, sus hijos y sus hijas.

Yet shameful idols have consumed what our ancestors have worked for— their flocks and cattle, their sons and daughters!

25 Acostémonos en nuestra vergüenza, y que nuestra confusión nos cubra; porque hemos pecado contra Yahvé nuestro Dios, nosotros y nuestros padres, desde nuestra juventud hasta hoy. No hemos obedecido la voz de Yahvé nuestro Dios”.

Let us lie down in shame. May our shame cover us, for we have sinned against Yahweh our God! We ourselves and our ancestors, from the time of our youthfulness to this present day, have not listened to the voice of Yahweh our God!”
