Jeremías 21
1 Palabra que vino a Jeremías de parte de Yahvé, cuando el rey Sedequías le envió a Pashur, hijo de Malquías, y a Sofonías, hijo de Maasías, el sacerdote, diciendo:
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashur, the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah, the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying:
2 “Por favor, consulta a Yahvé por nosotros, porque Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, nos hace la guerra. Tal vez Yahvé nos trate según todas sus maravillas, para que se retire de nosotros”.
Inquire, I pray thee, of Jehovah for us; for Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, maketh war against us; whether Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
3 Entonces Jeremías les dijo: “Dile a Sedequías
And Jeremiah said to them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:
4 ‘Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: “He aquí que yo haré retroceder las armas de guerra que están en tus manos, con las que luchas contra el rey de Babilonia, y contra los caldeos que te asedian fuera de las murallas; y los reuniré en medio de esta ciudad.
Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war which are in your hands, with which ye fight against the king of Babylon and the Chaldaeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them in the midst of this city.
5 Yo mismo lucharé contra ti con mano extendida y con brazo fuerte, con ira, con enojo y con gran indignación.
And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand, and with a strong arm, with anger and fury and great wrath.
6 Golpearé a los habitantes de esta ciudad, tanto a los hombres como a los animales. Morirán de una gran peste.
And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; by a great pestilence shall they die.
7 Después — dice el Señor — libraré a Sedequías, rey de Judá, a sus siervos y al pueblo, a los que queden en esta ciudad, de la peste, de la espada y del hambre, en manos de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, en manos de sus enemigos y en manos de los que buscan su vida. Los golpeará con el filo de la espada. No los perdonará, ni se apiadará, ni tendrá piedad”.
And after this, saith Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah, the king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and those in the city who shall be left alive by the pestilence, the sword, and the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life; and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword. He shall not spare them, nor have pity, nor show mercy.
8 “Dirás a este pueblo: ‘Dice el Señor: “He aquí que pongo ante ti el camino de la vida y el camino de la muerte.
And to this people thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
9 El que se quede en esta ciudad morirá por la espada, por el hambre y por la peste, pero el que salga y pase a los caldeos que te asedian, vivirá y escapará con vida.
He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence; but he that goeth out and surrendereth himself to the Chaldaeans that besiege you, he shall live, and bear away his life as a prey.
10 Porque he puesto mi rostro sobre esta ciudad para mal y no para bien”, dice el Señor. “Será entregada en manos del rey de Babilonia, y él la quemará con fuego”.
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith Jehovah. It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
11 “En cuanto a la casa del rey de Judá, escucha la palabra de Yahvé:
And to the house of the king of Judah: Hear ye the word of Jehovah,
12 Casa de David, dice Yahvé, ‘Ejecutar la justicia por la mañana, y libera al que es robado de la mano del opresor, para que mi ira no se apague como el fuego, y arderá de manera que nadie pueda apagarlo, por la maldad de tus actos.
O house of David! Thus saith Jehovah: Administer justice in season, and deliver him that is spoiled from the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings!
13 He aquí que estoy contra ti, oh habitante del valle, y de la roca de la llanura’, dice Yahvé. Los que decís: “¿Quién bajará contra nosotros?” o, “¿Quién entraría en nuestras casas?”
Behold, I am against thee, thou inhabitant of the valley, the rock of the plain, who sayest, “Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter our habitations?”
14 Te castigaré según el fruto de tus obras, dice Yahvé; y encenderé un fuego en su bosque, y devorará todo lo que la rodea”.
But I will punish you with the fruit of your doings. I will kindle a fire in her forest, which shall consume all around her.
