Jeremías 2

1 La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí, diciendo:

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

2 “Ve y proclama en los oídos de Jerusalén, diciendo: ‘Dice Yahvé, “Recuerdo para ti la bondad de tu juventud, tu amor de novia, cómo fuiste tras de mí en el desierto, en una tierra que no fue sembrada.

“Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem. Say, 'Yahweh says this: I have called to mind on your behalf the covenant faithfulness in your youthfulness, your love at the time when we were engaged, when you went after me in the wilderness, the land that was not sown.

3 Israel era la santidad para Yahvé, las primicias de su cosecha. Todos los que lo devoren serán considerados culpables. El mal vendrá sobre ellos”, dice Yahvé”.

Israel was set apart to Yahweh, the firstfruits of his harvest! All who ate from the firstfruits were held guilty; disaster came upon them—this is Yahweh's declaration.'”

4 ¡Escuchen la palabra de Yahvé, casa de Jacob y todas las familias de la casa de Israel!

Hear the word of Yahweh, house of Jacob, all you clans of the house of Israel.

5 Dice el Señor, “Qué injusticia han encontrado vuestros padres en mí, que se han alejado de mí, y han caminado tras la vanidad sin valor, y se han quedado sin valor?

Yahweh says this, “What did your fathers find wrong with me, that they went far from following me? That they went after useless idols and became useless themselves?

6 No dijeron: “¿Dónde está el Señor que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto? que nos guió por el desierto, a través de una tierra de desiertos y de fosas, a través de una tierra de sequía y de sombra de muerte, a través de una tierra por la que nadie pasaba, y donde no vivía ningún hombre”.

They did not say, 'Where is Yahweh, who brought us up from the land of Egypt? Where is Yahweh, who led us to the wilderness, into the land of the Arabah and pits, in a land of drought and deep darkness, a land through which no one passes and where no one lives?'

7 Te traje a una tierra abundante para comer sus frutos y sus bondades; pero cuando entraste, profanaste mi tierra, y han hecho de mi herencia una abominación.

But I brought you to the land of Carmel, to eat its fruit and other good things! Yet when you came, you defiled my land, you made my inheritance an abomination!

8 Los sacerdotes no dijeron: “¿Dónde está Yahvé? y los que manejan la ley no me conocían. Los gobernantes también se han rebelado contra mí, y los profetas profetizaron por Baal y seguía las cosas que no se aprovechan.

The priest did not say, 'Where is Yahweh?' and the experts in the law did not care about me! The shepherds transgressed against me. The prophets prophesied for Baal and walked after unprofitable things.

9 “Por lo tanto, aún contenderé con ustedes”, dice Yahvé, “y contenderé con los hijos de tus hijos.

So I will still accuse you—this is Yahweh's declaration—and I will accuse your sons' sons.

10 Porque pasen a las islas de Kittim y vean. Envía a Kedar, y considera con diligencia, y ver si ha habido tal cosa.

For cross over to the coasts of Kittim and look. Send messengers out to Kedar and find out and see if there has ever before been anything like this.

11 ¿Ha cambiado una nación sus dioses, que realmente no son dioses? Pero mi pueblo ha cambiado su gloria por lo que no aprovecha.

Has a nation exchanged gods, even though they were not gods? But my people have exchanged their glory for what cannot help them.

12 “Asombraos, cielos, de esta y tener un miedo atroz. Sé muy desolado”, dice Yahvé.

Shudder, heavens, because of this! Be shocked and horrified—this is Yahweh's declaration.

13 “Porque mi pueblo ha cometido dos males: me han abandonado a mí, fuente de aguas vivas, y se recortan cisternas para sí mismos: cisternas rotas que no pueden retener el agua.

For my people have committed two evils against me: They have abandoned the springs of living waters, and they have dug out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

14 ¿Es Israel un esclavo? ¿Ha nacido en la esclavitud? ¿Por qué se ha convertido en un cautivo?

Is Israel a slave? Was he born in his master's home? So why has he become plunder?

15 Los leones jóvenes han rugido contra él y han alzado la voz. Han convertido su tierra en un desierto. Sus ciudades están quemadas, sin habitantes.

Young lions roared against him. They made a lot of noise and made his land a horror. His cities are destroyed without any inhabitants.

16 También los hijos de Menfis y de Tahpanhes han roto la corona de tu cabeza.

Also, the people of Memphis and Tahpanhes will shave your skull.

17 “¿No te lo has buscado tú mismo? en que has abandonado a Yahvé vuestro Dios, cuando te guiaba por el camino?

Did you not do this to yourselves when you abandoned Yahweh your God, while he was leading you along the way?

18 ¿Qué ganas con ir a Egipto a beber las aguas del Shihor? ¿O por qué vas de camino a Asiria, a beber las aguas del río?

So now, why take the road to Egypt and drink the waters of Shihor? Why take the road to Assyria and drink the waters of the Euphrates River?

19 “Tu propia maldad te corregirá, y tu reincidencia te reprenderá. Sabed, pues, y ved que es una cosa mala y amarga, que has abandonado a Yahvé, tu Dios, y que mi temor no esté en ti”, dice el Señor, Yahvé de los Ejércitos.

Your wickedness rebukes you, and your faithlessness punishes you. So think about it and understand that it is wicked and bitter when you forsake Yahweh your God, and have no fear of me—this is the declaration of Lord Yahweh of hosts.

20 “Porque hace tiempo que rompí tu yugo, y reventar tus ataduras. Dijiste: “No voy a servir”. porque en cada colina alta y bajo cada árbol verde te inclinaste, interpretando a la prostituta.

For I broke your yoke that you had in ancient days; I tore your fetters off you. Still you said, 'I will not serve!' since you bowed down on every high hill and beneath every leafy tree, you adulterer.

21 Sin embargo, yo te había plantado una vid noble, una semilla pura y fiel. ¿Cómo es que os habéis convertido en las ramas degeneradas de una vid extraña para mí?

I planted you as a choice vine, completely from pure seed. How then have you have changed yourself into a corrupt, worthless vine?

22 Porque aunque te laves con lejía y usar mucho jabón, pero tu iniquidad está marcada ante mí”, dice el Señor Yahvé.

For even if you clean yourself in the river or wash with strong soap, your iniquity is a stain before me—this is the declaration of the Lord Yahweh.

23 “¿Cómo puedes decir: ‘No estoy contaminado’? ¿No he ido a por los Baals? Ve tu camino en el valle. Saber lo que has hecho. Eres un dromedario veloz que recorre sus caminos,

How can you say, 'I am not defiled! I have not walked after the Baals'? Look at what you did in the valleys! Consider what you have done—you are a swift female camel running here and there,

24 un asno salvaje acostumbrado al desierto, que olfatea el viento en su ansia. Cuando está en celo, ¿quién puede rechazarla? Todos los que la busquen no se cansarán. En su mes, la encontrarán.

a wild donkey accustomed to the wilderness, in her heat sniffing the wind! Who can restrain her lust? None of the males need wear themselves out pursuing her; at mating time they will find her.

25 “Evita que tus pies estén desnudos, y la garganta de la sed. Pero tú dijiste: ‘Es en vano’. No, porque he amado a extraños, y yo iré tras ellos’.

You must restrain your feet from becoming bare and your throat from being thirsty! But you have said, 'It is hopeless! No, I love strangers and go after them!'

26 Como el ladrón se avergüenza cuando es encontrado, para que la casa de Israel se avergüence — ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes y sus profetas,

Like the shame of a thief when he is found, so the house of Israel will be ashamed— they, their kings, their princes, and their priests and prophets!

27 que le dicen a la madera: “Tú eres mi padre”. y una piedra: “Me has dado a luz”. porque me han dado la espalda, y no su cara, pero en el momento de su angustia dirán: “¡Levántate y sálvanos!

These are the ones who say to the tree, 'You are my father,' and to the stone, 'You gave birth to me.' For their back faces me and not their faces. Nevertheless, they say in the time of troubles, 'Arise and save us!'

28 “Pero, ¿dónde están vuestros dioses que os habéis fabricado? Deja que se levanten, si pueden salvarte en el momento de tu problema, porque tienes tantos dioses como ciudades, oh Judá.

Yet where are the gods that you made for yourselves? Let them arise if they wish to save you in your time of troubles, for your idols equal your cities in number, Judah!

29 “¿Por qué quieres pelear conmigo? Todos ustedes han transgredido contra mí”, dice Yahvé.

So why do you accuse me of doing wrong? All of you have sinned against me—this is Yahweh's declaration.

30 “He golpeado a tus hijos en vano. No recibieron ninguna corrección. Tu propia espada ha devorado a tus profetas, como un león destructor.

I have punished your people in vain. They would not accept discipline. Your sword has devoured your prophets like a destructive lion!

31 Generación, considera la palabra de Yahvé. ¿He sido un desierto para Israel? ¿O una tierra de espesa oscuridad? ¿Por qué mi pueblo dice: ‘Nos hemos desprendido’? ¿No vendremos más a ti?

You who belong to this generation! Pay attention to my word, the word of Yahweh! Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of deep darkness? Why would my people say, 'Let us wander around, we will not go to you anymore'?

32 “¿Puede una virgen olvidar sus adornos, o una novia su atuendo? Sin embargo, mi pueblo me ha olvidado durante días sin número.

Will a virgin forget her jewelry, a bride her veils? Yet my people have forgotten me for days without number!

33 ¡Qué bien preparas tu camino para buscar el amor! Por eso, incluso has enseñado a las mujeres malvadas tus caminos.

How well you make your way to look for love. You have even taught your ways to wicked women.

34 También la sangre de las almas de los pobres inocentes se encuentra en tus faldas. No los encontraste entrando, pero es por todas estas cosas.

The blood that was the life of innocent, poor people has been found on your clothes. These people were not discovered in acts of burglary.

35 “Sin embargo, dijiste: ‘Soy inocente’. Seguramente su ira se ha alejado de mí’. “He aquí que yo os juzgaré, porque dices: “No he pecado”.

Yet you say, 'I am innocent; surely his anger has turned away from me.' But look! I will bring down judgment on you because you say, 'I have not sinned.'

36 ¿Por qué se empeñan en cambiar sus costumbres? Tú también te avergonzarás de Egipto, como tú te avergonzaste de Asiria.

Why do you treat so very lightly this change in your ways? You will also be disappointed by Egypt, just as you were by Assyria.

37 También saldrás de ese lugar con las manos en la cabeza; porque Yahvé ha rechazado a aquellos en quienes confías, y no prosperarás con ellos.

You will also go out from there dejected, with your hands on your head, for Yahweh has rejected the ones whom you trusted, so you will not be helped by them.”
