Jeremías 14
1 Esta es la palabra de Yahvé que llegó a Jeremías en relación con la sequía:
That which has been the word of YHWH to Jeremiah concerning the matters of the scarcities:
2 “Judá está de luto, y sus puertas languidecen. Se sientan en negro en el suelo. El grito de Jerusalén se eleva.
“Judah has mourned, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem has gone up.
3 Sus nobles envían a sus pequeños a las aguas. Llegan a las cisternas, y no encontraremos agua. Vuelven con los vasos vacíos. Están decepcionados y confundidos, y cubrir sus cabezas.
And their majestic ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come to ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back—their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.
4 Por el suelo que se agrieta, porque no ha llovido en la tierra, los aradores están decepcionados. Se cubren la cabeza.
Because the ground has been broken, For there has been no rain in the land, Farmers have been ashamed, They have covered their head.
5 Sí, también la cierva en el campo pare y abandone a sus crías, porque no hay hierba.
For even the doe in the field has brought forth—to forsake [it!] For there has been no grass.
6 Los asnos salvajes se paran en las alturas desnudas. Jadean por aire como chacales. Sus ojos fallan, porque no hay vegetación.
And wild donkeys have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Their eyes have been consumed, for there is no herb.”
7 Aunque nuestras iniquidades testifiquen contra nosotros, trabajar por tu nombre, Yahvé; porque nuestras rebeliones son muchas. Hemos pecado contra ti.
Surely our iniquities have testified against us, O YHWH, work for Your Name’s sake, For our backslidings have been many, We have sinned against You.
8 Tú, esperanza de Israel, su salvador en el momento de la dificultad, por qué deberías estar como un extranjero en la tierra, y como un caminante que se aparta para pasar la noche?
O Hope of Israel—its Savior in time of trouble, Why are You as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveler turned aside to lodge?
9 Por qué debes ser como un hombre asustado, como un hombre poderoso que no puede salvar? Sin embargo, tú, Yahvé, estás en medio de nosotros, y nos llamamos por tu nombre. No nos dejes.
Why are You as one mute? As a mighty one not able to save? And You [are] in our midst, O YHWH, And Your Name is called over us, Do not leave us.
10 Yahvé dice a este pueblo: “Aun así, les ha gustado vagar. No han frenado sus pies. Por lo tanto, Yahvé no los acepta. Ahora se acordará de su iniquidad, y castigarlos por sus pecados”.
Thus said YHWH concerning this people: “They have loved to wander well, They have not restrained their feet, And YHWH has not accepted them, Now He remembers their iniquity, And inspects their sin.”
11 El Señor me dijo: “No reces por este pueblo para su bien.
And YHWH says to me: “You do not pray for this people for good.
12 Cuando ayunen, no escucharé su clamor; y cuando ofrezcan holocaustos y ofrendas, no los aceptaré, sino que los consumiré con la espada, el hambre y la peste.”
When they fast, I do not listen to their cry, and when they cause burnt-offering and present to ascend, I do not accept them; for I am consuming them by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence.”
13 Entonces dije: “¡Ah, Señor Yahvé! He aquí que los profetas les dicen: ‘No veréis la espada, ni tendréis hambre, sino que os daré una paz segura en este lugar’”.
And I say, “Aah! Lord YHWH, behold, the prophets are saying to them: You do not see a sword, indeed, famine is not [on] you, for I give true peace to you in this place.”
14 Entonces el Señor me dijo: “Los profetas profetizan mentiras en mi nombre. Yo no los envié. Yo no les ordené. Yo no les hablé. Te profetizan una visión mentirosa, una adivinación y una cosa de nada, y el engaño de su propio corazón.
And YHWH says to me: “The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My Name. I did not send them, nor command them, nor have I spoken to them. A false vision, and divination, and vanity—indeed, they are prophesying the deceit of their own heart to you.
15 Por eso dice el Señor acerca de los profetas que profetizan en mi nombre, pero yo no los envié, y sin embargo dicen: ‘La espada y el hambre no estarán en esta tierra’. Esos profetas serán consumidos por la espada y el hambre.
Therefore, thus said YHWH concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My Name and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.
16 El pueblo al que profetizan será expulsado por las calles de Jerusalén a causa del hambre y de la espada. No tendrán quien los entierre, ni a ellos, ni a sus esposas, ni a sus hijos, ni a sus hijas, porque derramaré sobre ellos su maldad.
And the people to whom they are prophesying are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, because of the famine and the sword, and they have none burying them—them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters—and I have poured out their evil on them.
17 “Les dirás esta palabra: “‘Que mis ojos corran con lágrimas noche y día, y que no cesen; porque la hija virgen de mi pueblo está rota con una gran brecha, con una herida muy grave.
And you have said this word to them: Tears come down my eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For [with] a great breach, The virgin daughter of my people has been broken, A very grievous stroke.
18 Si salgo al campo, ¡entonces he aquí, los muertos con la espada! Si entro en la ciudad, entonces, ¡mira a los que están enfermos de hambre! Porque tanto el profeta como el sacerdote van por la tierra, y no tienen conocimiento”.
If I have gone forth to the field, Then, behold, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, behold, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down To a land that they did not know.”
19 ¿Has rechazado por completo a Judá? ¿Tu alma ha aborrecido a Sión? ¿Por qué nos has golpeado, y no hay curación para nosotros? Buscamos la paz, pero no llegó nada bueno; y por un tiempo de curación, y he aquí, ¡desconsuelo!
Have You utterly rejected Judah? Has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You struck us, And there is no healing to us? Looking for peace, and there is no good, And for a time of healing, and behold, terror.
20 Reconocemos, Yahvé, nuestra maldad, y la iniquidad de nuestros padres; porque hemos pecado contra ti.
We have known, O YHWH, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against You.
21 No nos aborrezcas, por tu nombre. No deshonres el trono de tu gloria. Recuerda, y no rompas tu pacto con nosotros.
Do not despise, for Your Name’s sake, Do not dishonor the throne of Your glory, Remember, do not break Your covenant with us.
22 ¿Hay alguno entre las vanidades de las naciones que pueda hacer llover? ¿O el cielo puede dar duchas? ¿No eres tú, Yahvé, nuestro Dios? Por lo tanto, te esperaremos; porque tú has hecho todas estas cosas.
Are there any among the vanities of the nations causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Are You not He, O our God YHWH? And we wait for you, for You have done all these!
