Jeremías 13
1 Yahvé me dijo: “Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino, póntelo en la cintura y no lo metas en el agua”.
Thus, said Yahweh unto me, —Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins, —but in water, shalt thou not place it.
2 Así que compré un cinturón según la palabra de Yahvé, y me lo puse en la cintura.
So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh, —and put upon my loins.
3 La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí por segunda vez, diciendo:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:
4 “Toma el cinturón que has comprado, que está en tu cintura, y levántate, ve al Éufrates, y escóndelo allí en una hendidura de la roca.”
Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins, —and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.
5 Fui, pues, a esconderla junto al Éufrates, como me había ordenado Yahvé.
So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.
6 Después de muchos días, Yahvé me dijo: “Levántate, ve al Éufrates y toma de allí el cinturón que te mandé esconder.”
And it came to pass, at the end of many days, —that Yahweh said unto me, —Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.
7 Entonces fui al Éufrates, cavé y saqué el cinturón del lugar donde lo había escondido; y he aquí que el cinturón estaba arruinado. No servía para nada.
So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it, —and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing,
8 Entonces vino a mí la palabra de Yahvé, diciendo:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:
9 “Dice Yahvé: ‘Así arruinaré la soberbia de Judá y el gran orgullo de Jerusalén.
Thus, saith Yahweh, —After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
10 Este pueblo malvado, que se niega a escuchar mis palabras, que camina en la terquedad de su corazón y que se ha ido tras otros dioses para servirlos y adorarlos, será como este cinturón, que no sirve para nada.
This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.
11 Porque como el cinturón se adhiere a la cintura del hombre, así he hecho que se adhiera a mí toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá — dice el Señor —, para que me sirvan de pueblo, de nombre, de alabanza y de gloria; pero no han querido escuchar.
For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto me—the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mine—For a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning, —but they hearkened not.
12 “Por lo tanto, les dirás esta palabra: ‘Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: “Todo recipiente debe llenarse de vino”’. Ellos te dirán: ‘¿No sabemos ciertamente que todo recipiente debe llenarse de vino?’
Therefore shalt thou say unto them this word—Thus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?
13 Entonces diles: ‘Yahvé dice: “He aquí que yo lleno de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, a los reyes que se sientan en el trono de David, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.
Then shalt thou say unto them—Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem—with drunkenness;
14 Los estrellaré unos contra otros, a los padres y a los hijos juntos”, dice el Señor: “No me apiadaré, ni perdonaré, ni tendré compasión, para no destruirlos””.
and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh, —I will not pity, Neither will I spare, Neither will I have compassion, that I should not destroy them.
15 Escucha y presta atención. No seas orgulloso, porque Yahvé ha hablado.
Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty, —For Yahweh, hath spoken.
16 Denle gloria a Yahvé, su Dios, antes de provocar la oscuridad, y antes de que tus pies tropiecen con las montañas oscuras, y mientras buscas la luz, lo convierte en la sombra de la muerte, y lo convierte en una profunda oscuridad.
Give ye to Yahweh your God—glory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.
17 Pero si no quieres escucharlo, mi alma llorará en secreto por tu orgullo. Mi ojo llorará amargamente, y se derrumba con las lágrimas, porque el rebaño de Yahvé ha sido llevado cautivo.
But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.
18 Di al rey y a la reina madre, “Humíllense. Siéntense, pues sus coronas han bajado, hasta la corona de tu gloria.
Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselves—Sit down, —For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.
19 Las ciudades del Sur están cerradas, y no hay nadie que los abra. Judá es llevado cautivo: todos ellos. Están totalmente cautivos.
The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open, —Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.
20 Levanta los ojos, y ver a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está el rebaño que te fue entregado? ¿tu hermoso rebaño?
Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North, —Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?
21 ¿Qué dirás cuando ponga al frente de ti a los que tú mismo has enseñado a ser amigos tuyos? ¿No se apoderarán de ti las penas, como de una mujer que está de parto?
What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?
22 Si dices en tu corazón “¿Por qué se me han echado encima estas cosas?” Tus faldas están descubiertas a causa de la grandeza de tu iniquidad, y tus tacones sufren violencia.
But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!
23 El etíope puede cambiar de piel, o el leopardo sus manchas? Entonces, que tú también hagas el bien, que están acostumbrados a hacer el mal.
Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed to do wrong.
24 “Por eso los dispersaré como el rastrojo que pasa por el viento del desierto.
Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.
25 Esta es su suerte, la porción que se te ha medido de mi parte”, dice Yahvé, “porque me has olvidado, y confió en la falsedad”.
This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:
26 Por lo tanto, también descubriré tus faldas sobre tu rostro, y tu vergüenza aparecerá.
Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,
27 He visto vuestras abominaciones, incluso vuestros adulterios y tus relinchos, la lascivia de tu prostitución, en las colinas del campo. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! No se te limpiará. ¿Cuánto tiempo pasará todavía?”
Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?
