Isaías 48

1 “Escucha esto, casa de Jacob, tú que te llamas con el nombre de Israel, y han salido de las aguas de Judá. Juras por el nombre de Yahvé, y hacer mención del Dios de Israel, pero no en la verdad, ni en la justicia —

Hear ye this—O house of Jacob, Ye who call yourselves by the name of Israel, Yea from the waters of Judah, came they forth, —Who swear by the name of Yahweh, And, by the God of Israel, call to remembrance—Not in truth, nor in righteousness;

2 porque se llaman a sí mismos ciudadanos de la ciudad santa, y confiar en el Dios de Israel; Yahvé de los Ejércitos es su nombre.

For of the holy city, do they call themselves, And on the God of Israel, do they stay themselves, —Yahweh of hosts, is his name.

3 He declarado las cosas anteriores desde la antigüedad. Sí, salieron de mi boca y los revelé. Los hice de repente, y sucedieron.

Things in advance, of old, I declared, Yea out of mine own mouth, came they forth, that I might let them be known, —Suddenly, I wrought and they came to pass.

4 Porque sabía que eras obstinado, y tu cuello es un tendón de hierro, y el bronce de tu frente;

Because I knew that—Obstinate, thou wast, —And, a sinew of iron, was thy neck, And thy brow, brazen,

5 por eso os lo he declarado desde antiguo; antes de que ocurriera te lo mostré; para que no digas: “Mi ídolo los ha hecho”. Mi imagen grabada y mi imagen fundida les ha ordenado’.

therefore told I thee—in time past, Ere yet it came, I let thee hear, —Lest thou shouldest say Mine idol wrought them, Yea, my carved image and my molten image, commanded them!

6 Lo habéis oído. Ahora vea todo esto. Y tú, ¿no lo vas a declarar? “Te he mostrado cosas nuevas de este tiempo, incluso cosas ocultas, que no has conocido.

Thou hast heard—see it whole, And will, ye, not tell? I have let thee hear new things—from the present time, Even secrets which ye knew not.

7 Son creados ahora, y no desde la antigüedad. Antes de hoy, no se oían, para que no digáis: ‘He aquí que los conocía’.

Now, are they created, and not in time past, And, before to-day, thou hadst not heard of them, —Lest thou shouldest say, Lo! I knew them!

8 Sí, no lo has oído. Sí, no lo sabías. Sí, desde antaño no se te abría el oído, ya que sabía que tratabas con mucha alevosía, y fueron llamados transgresores desde el vientre.

Nay! thou hadst not heard, Nay! thou hadst not known, Nay! in time past, thine ear, was not opened, —For I knew that thou, wouldst be treacherous, Yea a transgressor from birth, hast thou been called.

9 Por mi nombre, aplazaré mi ira, y para mi alabanza, lo retengo para ti para que no te corte el paso.

For the sake of mine own Name, will I defer mine anger, And for my praise, will I restrain myself towards thee, —So as not to cut thee off.

10 He aquí que te he refinado, pero no como la plata. Te he elegido en el horno de la aflicción.

Lo! I have refined thee, but not as silver, —I have tested thee, in a smelting-pot of affliction.

11 Por mi propio bien, por mi propio bien, lo haré; pues ¿cómo se profanaría mi nombre? No daré mi gloria a otro.

For mine own sake—for mine own sake, will I effectually work For how should it be profaned? And, my glory—to another, will I not give.

12 “Escúchame, oh Jacob, e Israel mi llamado: Yo soy él. Yo soy el primero. También soy el último.

Hearken unto me O Jacob, And Israel, my called one, —I, am, the Same I, the first, yea, I, the last:

13 Sí, mi mano ha puesto los cimientos de la tierra, y mi mano derecha ha extendido los cielos. cuando los llamo, se levantan juntos.

Surely, mine own hand, founded the earth, And, my right hand, stretched out the heavens, —While I was calling unto them, they stood forth, at once

14 “¡Reúnanse todos y escuchen! ¿Quién de ellos ha declarado estas cosas? Aquel a quien Yahvé ama hará lo que le gusta a Babilonia, y su brazo estará contra los caldeos.

Assemble yourselves—all of you and hear, Who among them, hath told these things? he whom Yahweh loveth, will execute—His pleasure, on Babylon, And his stroke on the Chaldeans.

15 Yo, incluso yo, he hablado. Sí, le he llamado. Le he traído y hará que su camino sea próspero.

I—I, have spoken, Yea I have called him, —I have brought him in, and he shall make prosperous his way.

16 “Acércate a mí y escucha esto: “Desde el principio no he hablado en secreto; desde el momento en que ocurrió, yo estaba allí”. Ahora el Señor Yahvé me ha enviado con su Espíritu.

Draw ye near unto me—hear ye this, Not in advance in secret, have I spoken, From the very time it cometh into being, there, am I, —And, now, My Lord Yahweh hath sent me and his spirit.

17 Yahvé, tu Redentor, el Santo de Israel, dice: “Yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios, que te enseña a sacar provecho, que te guía por el camino que debes seguir.

Thus saith Yahweh—Thy Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel, —I—Yahweh, am thy God, Teaching thee to profit, Guiding thee in the way thou shouldest go.

18 ¡Oh, si hubieras escuchado mis mandamientos! Entonces tu paz habría sido como un río y tu justicia como las olas del mar.

Oh! that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments, —Then had been, like a river, thy prosperity, And, thy righteousness, like the waves of the sea:

19 Tu descendencia también habría sido como la arena y los descendientes de tu cuerpo como sus granos. Su nombre no será cortado ni destruido ante mí”.

Then had been, like the sand, thy seed, And, the offspring of thy body, like the grains thereof, —Neither cut off nor destroyed had been his name from before me.

20 ¡Salgan de Babilonia! ¡Huye de los caldeos! Con una voz de canto anuncie esto, cuéntalo hasta el fin de la tierra; decir: “¡Yahvé ha redimido a su siervo Jacob!”

Come ye forth out of Babylon, Flee from among the Chaldeans, With triumphant voice, tell ye—let this be heard, Let it go forth as far as the end of the earth, —Say ye—Yahweh hath redeemed his servant Jacob!

21 No tuvieron sed cuando los condujo por los desiertos. Hizo que las aguas fluyeran de la roca para ellos. También partió la roca y las aguas brotaron.

And they thirsted not, when, through dry places, he led them, Waters out of the rock, caused he to flow out to them, —Yea be cleft a rock and, there gushed out waters:

22 “No hay paz”, dice Yahvé, “para los malvados”.

No well-being, saith Yahweh to the lawless,
