Isaías 37
1 Cuando el rey Ezequías lo oyó, se rasgó las vestiduras, se cubrió de cilicio y entró en la casa de Yahvé.
When king Hezekiah sh'ma ·heard obeyed· it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into Adonai’s house.
2 Envió a Eliaquim, que estaba a cargo de la casa, y a Sebna, el escriba, y a los ancianos de los sacerdotes, cubiertos de cilicio, a ver al profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz.
He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] the prophet, the son of Amoz.
3 Le dijeron: “Ezequías dice: ‘Hoy es un día de angustia, de reprimenda y de rechazo; porque los niños han llegado al parto, y no hay fuerzas para dar a luz.
They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘Today is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to give birth.
4 Puede ser que Yahvé vuestro Dios escuche las palabras de Rabsaces, a quien el rey de Asiria, su amo, ha enviado para desafiar al Dios vivo, y reprenda las palabras que Yahvé vuestro Dios ha escuchado. Por lo tanto, levanta tu oración por el remanente que queda’”.
It may be Adonai your God will sh'ma ·hear obey· the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria [Level plain] his master has sent to defy the Elohim Chayim [Living God], and will rebuke the words which Adonai your God has sh'ma ·heard obeyed·. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”
5 Entonces los servidores del rey Ezequías vinieron a Isaías.
So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah [Salvation of Yah].
6 Isaías les dijo: “Díganle a su amo: “No temas las palabras que has oído, con las que los siervos del rey de Asiria me han blasfemado.
Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] said to them, “Tell your master, ‘Adonai says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have sh'ma ·heard obeyed·, with which the servants of the king of Assyria [Level plain] have blasphemed me.
7 He aquí que yo pondré un espíritu en él y oirá noticias, y volverá a su tierra. Haré que caiga a espada en su propia tierra”.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him and he will sh'ma ·hear obey· news, and will teshuvah ·completely return· to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”
8 Volvió, pues, Rabsaces, y encontró al rey de Asiria guerreando contra Libna, pues había oído que había salido de Laquis.
So Rabshakeh make teshuvah ·complete return·, and found the king of Assyria [Level plain] warring against Libnah, for he had sh'ma ·heard obeyed· that he was departed from Lachish.
9 Oyó noticias sobre Tirhakah, rey de Etiopía: “Ha salido a luchar contra ti”. Cuando lo oyó, envió mensajeros a Ezequías, diciéndole:
He sh'ma ·heard obeyed· news concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “He has come out to fight against you.” When he sh'ma ·heard obeyed· it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
10 “Así hablarás a Ezequías, rey de Judá, diciéndole: “No dejes que tu Dios, en quien confías, te engañe diciendo: “Jerusalén no será entregada en manos del rey de Asiria.”
“Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah [Praised], saying, ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem [City of peace] won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria [Level plain].”
11 He aquí que has oído lo que los reyes de Asiria han hecho a todas las tierras, destruyéndolas por completo. ¿Serás liberado?
Behold, you have sh'ma ·heard obeyed· what the kings of Assyria [Level plain] have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Shall you be delivered?
12 ¿Los dioses de las naciones han librado a los que mis padres destruyeron, a Gozán, a Harán, a Rezef y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?
Have the deities of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, Haran [Mountaineer], Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?
13 ¿Dónde está el rey de Hamat, y el rey de Arpad, y el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaim, de Hena y de Ivva?”
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”
14 Ezequías recibió la carta de manos de los mensajeros y la leyó. Entonces Ezequías subió a la casa de Yahvé y la extendió ante Yahvé.
Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Adonai’s house, and spread it before Adonai.
15 Ezequías oró a Yahvé, diciendo:
Hezekiah prayed to Adonai, saying,
16 “Yahvé de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, que está entronizado entre los querubines, tú eres el Dios, sólo tú, de todos los reinos de la tierra. Tú has hecho el cielo y la tierra.
“Adonai Tzva'ot [Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies], the God of Israel [God prevails], who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
17 Vuelve tu oído, Yahvé, y escucha. Abre tus ojos, Yahvé, y mira. Escucha todas las palabras de Senaquerib, que ha enviado a desafiar al Dios vivo.
Turn your ear, Adonai, and sh'ma ·hear obey·. Open your eyes, Adonai, and behold. Sh'ma ·Hear obey· all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the Elohim Chayim [Living God].
18 En verdad, Yahvé, los reyes de Asiria han destruido todos los países y sus tierras,
Truly, Adonai, the kings of Assyria [Level plain] have destroyed all the countries and their land,
19 y han echado al fuego a sus dioses, pues no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera y piedra; por eso los han destruido.
and have cast their deities into the fire; for they were no elohim ·deities, judges·, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.
20 Ahora, pues, Yahvé, nuestro Dios, sálvanos de su mano, para que todos los reinos de la tierra sepan que tú eres Yahvé, tú solo”.
Now therefore, Yahweh Eloheikhem [Yahweh our God], save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Adonai, even you only.”
21 Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió a decir a Ezequías: “Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘Por haberme rogado contra Senaquerib, rey de Asiria,
Then Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, Elohim Isra'el [He sustains breathing, God of God prevails] says, ‘Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria [Level plain],
22 esta es la palabra que Yahvé ha dicho sobre él: La virgen hija de Sión te ha despreciado y te ha ridiculizado. La hija de Jerusalén ha sacudido la cabeza ante ti.
this is the word which Adonai has spoken concerning him. The virgin daughter of Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking] has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem [City of peace] has shaken her head at you.
23 ¿A quién has desafiado y blasfemado? ¿Contra quién has alzado tu voz y levantado tus ojos en alto? Contra el Santo de Israel.
Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against haKadosh Isra'el [the Holy One of God prevails].
24 Por medio de tus siervos, has desafiado al Señor y has dicho: “Con la multitud de mis carros he subido a la altura de los montes, a lo más recóndito del Líbano. Cortaré sus altos cedros y sus selectos cipreses. Entraré en su altura más lejana, en el bosque de su campo fructífero.
By your servants, have you defied 'Adonay [Lord], and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees. I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.
25 He cavado y bebido agua, y con la planta de mis pies secaré todos los ríos de Egipto.”
I have dug and drunk water, and with the sole of my feet I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt [Abode of slavery].”
26 “‘¿No has oído cómo lo he hecho hace mucho tiempo, y lo he formado en tiempos antiguos? Ahora he hecho que sea tuya la destrucción de las ciudades fortificadas, convirtiéndolas en montones ruinosos.
Have you not sh'ma ·heard obeyed· how I have done it long ago, and formed it in ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to destroy fortified cities, turning them into ruinous heaps.
27 Por eso sus habitantes tenían poco poder. Estaban consternados y confundidos. Eran como la hierba del campo, y como la hierba verde, como la hierba de los tejados, y como un campo antes de que haya crecido su cosecha.
Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field, and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops, and like a field before its crop has grown.
28 Pero yo sé que te sientas, que sales, que entras y que te enfureces contra mí.
But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
29 A causa de tu furia contra mí, y porque tu arrogancia ha subido a mis oídos, pondré mi garfio en tu nariz y mi freno en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por el que viniste.
Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.
30 “‘Esta será la señal para vosotros: Este año comeréis lo que crece por sí mismo, y el segundo año lo que brota de él; y el tercer año sembraréis y segaréis y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis su fruto.
This shall be the sign to you. You will eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from the same; and in the third year sow and reap and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
31 El remanente que se ha escapado de la casa de Judá volverá a echar raíces hacia abajo y a dar fruto hacia arriba.
The remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah [Praised] will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
32 Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y los sobrevivientes escaparán del monte Sión. El celo de Yahvé de los Ejércitos realizará esto”.
For out of Jerusalem [City of peace] a remnant will go out, and survivors will escape from Mount Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking]. The zeal of Adonai Tzva'ot [Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies] will perform this.’
33 “Por eso dice el Señor acerca del rey de Asiria: ‘No vendrá a esta ciudad, ni disparará una flecha en ella, ni se presentará ante ella con escudo, ni levantará un montículo contra ella.
Therefore Adonai says concerning the king of Assyria [Level plain], ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
34 Volverá por donde vino, y no vendrá a esta ciudad’, dice el Señor.
By the way that he came, by the same he shall teshuvah ·completely return·, and he shall not come to this city,’ says Adonai.
35 ‘Porque yo defenderé esta ciudad para salvarla, por mí y por mi siervo David’”.
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David [Beloved]’s sake.’”
36 Entonces el ángel de Yahvé salió e hirió a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres en el campamento de los asirios. Cuando los hombres se levantaron de madrugada, he aquí que todos ellos eran cadáveres.
Ha mal'ak Yahweh [The Angel of He sustains breathing] went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
37 Entonces Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, se marchó, volvió a Nínive y se quedó allí.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria [Level plain] departed, went away, teshuvah ·completely returned· to Nineveh [Offspring’s Habitation], and stayed there.
38 Mientras adoraba en la casa de Nisroc, su dios, Adramelec y Sharezer, sus hijos, lo hirieron con la espada, y escaparon a la tierra de Ararat. Su hijo Esar Haddón reinó en su lugar.
As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his deity, Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
