Hebreos 12
1 Por tanto, nosotros también, viéndonos rodeados de una nube tan grande de testigos, despojémonos de todo peso y del pecado que tan fácilmente nos enreda, y corramos con perseverancia la carrera que tenemos por delante,
Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that lies before us,
2 mirando a Jesús, el autor y el perfeccionador de la fe, que por el gozo que le fue propuesto soportó la cruz, despreciando su vergüenza, y se ha sentado a la derecha del trono de Dios.
fixing our eyes upon Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Porque considerad al que ha soportado tal contradicción de los pecadores contra sí mismo, para que no os canséis, desfalleciendo en vuestras almas.
Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners against himself, so that you will not grow weary or lose heart.
4 Todavía no habéis resistido hasta la sangre, luchando contra el pecado.
In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
5 Habéis olvidado la exhortación que razona con vosotros como con los niños, “Hijo mío, no tomes a la ligera el castigo del Señor, ni desmayes cuando seas reprendido por él;
And you have completely forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not think lightly of the discipline of the Lord, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you.
6 porque al que el Señor ama, lo disciplina, y castiga a todo hijo que recibe”.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he punishes every son he receives.”
7 Es por la disciplina que ustedes soportan. Dios os trata como a hijos, pues ¿qué hijo hay al que su padre no disciplina?
For the sake of discipline you must endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?
8 Pero si no tenéis disciplina, de la que todos habéis sido hechos partícipes, entonces sois ilegítimos, y no hijos.
If you do not experience discipline, which is something everyone receives, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
9 Además, tuvimos a los padres de nuestra carne para que nos castigaran, y les hicimos caso. ¿No será mejor que nos sometamos al Padre de los espíritus y vivamos?
Furthermore, we have all had earthly fathers who disciplined us, and we respected them. Should we not submit even more to the Father of spirits and live?
10 Porque ciertamente ellos nos disciplinaron por unos días como les pareció bien, pero él para nuestro provecho, para que seamos partícipes de su santidad.
For our fathers disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but God disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in his holiness.
11 Todo castigo parece al presente no ser alegre sino penoso; sin embargo, después da el fruto apacible de la justicia a los que han sido entrenados por él.
Now no discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those trained by it.
12 Por tanto, levantad las manos que cuelgan y las rodillas débiles,
Therefore, lift up your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees.
13 y haced caminos rectos para vuestros pies, para que lo que está cojo no se disloque, sino que sea sanado.
Make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but healed instead.
14 Seguid la paz con todos los hombres, y la santificación sin la cual nadie verá al Señor,
Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.
15 mirando atentamente para que no haya ninguno que esté desprovisto de la gracia de Dios, para que ninguna raíz de amargura que brote os moleste y muchos sean contaminados por ella,
Make sure no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, which would result in many becoming defiled.
16 para que no haya ningún inmoral sexual o profano, como Esaú, que vendió su primogenitura por una sola comida.
And make sure there is no fornicator or profane person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for a single meal.
17 Porque sabéis que aun cuando después deseó heredar la bendición, fue rechazado, pues no encontró lugar para cambiar de opinión, aunque lo buscó diligentemente con lágrimas.
You know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no opportunity for repentance, even though he sought the blessing with tears.
18 Porque no has venido a un monte que se puede tocar y que arde con fuego, y a la negrura, a la oscuridad, a la tormenta,
For you have not come to a mountain that can be touched, to a blazing fire, darkness, gloom, and a whirlwind.
19 al sonido de una trompeta y a la voz de las palabras, que los que lo oyeron rogaron que no se les dijera ni una palabra más,
You have not come to a trumpet blast and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further word be spoken to them.
20 porque no podían soportar lo que se había ordenado: “Si hasta un animal toca el monte, será apedreado”.
For they could not bear the order that was given: “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”
21 Tan temible fue la aparición que Moisés dijo: “Estoy aterrado y temblando”.
Indeed, the sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
22 Pero no habéis venido al monte Sión y a la ciudad del Dios vivo, la Jerusalén celestial, y a innumerables multitudes de ángeles,
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to myriads of angels,
23 a la reunión festiva y a la asamblea de los primogénitos que están inscritos en el cielo, a Dios el Juez de todos, a los espíritus de los justos hechos perfectos,
to the festive gathering and assembly of the firstborn, whose names are enrolled in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of righteous people who have been made perfect.
24 a Jesús, el mediador de un nuevo pacto, y a la sangre de la aspersión que habla mejor que la de Abel.
And you have come to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
25 Procurad no rechazar al que habla. Porque si no escaparon cuando rechazaron al que advertía en la tierra, cuánto más no escaparemos los que nos apartamos del que advierte desde el cielo,
Be careful not to refuse him who is speaking. For if the people did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?
26 cuya voz hizo temblar la tierra entonces, pero que ahora ha prometido, diciendo: “Todavía una vez más haré temblar no sólo la tierra, sino también los cielos.”
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.”
27 Esta frase, “Todavía una vez más”, significa la remoción de las cosas que son sacudidas, como de las cosas que han sido hechas, para que las cosas que no son sacudidas puedan permanecer.
Now the phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Por lo tanto, recibiendo un Reino que no puede ser sacudido, tengamos gracia, a través de la cual servimos a Dios aceptablemente, con reverencia y temor,
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. It is by our thankfulness that we offer God acceptable worship, with reverence and godly fear.
29 porque nuestro Dios es un fuego consumidor.
For our God is a consuming fire.
