Gálatas 4
1 Pero yo digo que mientras el heredero es niño, no se diferencia de un siervo, aunque es señor de todo,
NOW I affirm, that as long as the heir is an infant, he differeth nothing from a servant, though he be master of all;
2 sino que está bajo tutores y administradores hasta el día señalado por el padre.
but is under tutors and trustees until the time fixed by his father.
3 Así también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, estábamos sometidos a los principios elementales del mundo.
So we also, when we were infants, were in bondage under the first elementary principles of the world:
4 Pero cuando llegó la plenitud del tiempo, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de una mujer, nacido bajo la ley,
but when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his Son born of a woman, born under the law,
5 para que redimiera a los que estaban bajo la ley, a fin de que recibiéramos la adopción como hijos.
that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 Y porque sois hijos, Dios envió a vuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama: “¡Abba, Padre!”.
But because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father!
7 Así que ya no eres siervo, sino hijo; y si hijo, también heredero de Dios por medio de Cristo.
Therefore thou art no more a slave, but a son, and if a son, an heir also of God through Christ.
8 Sin embargo, en aquel tiempo, al no conocer a Dios, estabais esclavizados a los que por naturaleza no son dioses.
But at that time when ye knew not God, ye served those who by nature are not gods.
9 Pero ahora que habéis llegado a conocer a Dios, o más bien a ser conocidos por Dios, ¿por qué volvéis a los débiles y miserables principios elementales, a los que queréis volver a esclavizaros?
But now after having known God, or rather being known of God, how turn ye back again to those weak and beggarly elements, to which again a second time ye desire to be in bondage?
10 Ustedes observan los días, los meses, las estaciones y los años.
Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.
11 Temo por vosotros, que haya desperdiciado mi trabajo por vosotros.
I am afraid for you, lest haply I have bestowed on you labour in vain.
12 Os ruego, hermanos, que os hagáis como yo, porque yo también me he hecho como vosotros. No me hicisteis ningún mal,
Be as I am, for I also am as ye are, brethren―this is my request to you: ye have not injured me in the least.
13 sino que sabéis que a causa de la debilidad en la carne os prediqué la Buena Nueva la primera vez.
Ye know that with infirmity of flesh I preached to you the gospel at the first.
14 Lo que fue una tentación para vosotros en mi carne, no lo despreciasteis ni lo rechazasteis, sino que me recibisteis como a un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús.
And my temptation, which was in my flesh, ye despised not, nor rejected with disgust; but as an angel of God ye received me, even as Christ Jesus himself.
15 ¿Cuál fue la bendición que disfrutaste? Porque te doy testimonio de que, si fuera posible, te habrías sacado los ojos y me los habrías dado a mí.
What then was your blessedness, for I bear witness to you that, if it were possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes, and given them to me.
16 Entonces, ¿me he convertido en vuestro enemigo por deciros la verdad?
Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
17 Ellos no os buscan con celo de ninguna manera buena. No, ellos desean apartaros de nosotros, para que vosotros os busquéis a ellos
They affect zeal for you, not honourably; but they wish to exclude us, that you may be zealously attached to them.
18 Pero siempre es bueno tener celo por una buena causa, y no sólo cuando estoy presente con vosotros.
It is good indeed to be zealously affected in a good cause always, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Hijitos míos, de los que vuelvo a tener dolores de parto hasta que Cristo se forme en vosotros,
My little children of whom I travail in birth again, until Christ be formed in you,
20 pero podría desear estar presente con vosotros ahora, y cambiar mi tono, pues estoy perplejo por vosotros.
I wish I could be with you now, and change my address; for I am in doubt about you.
21 Decidme, vosotros que queréis estar bajo la ley, ¿no escucháis la ley?
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
22 Porque está escrito que Abraham tuvo dos hijos, uno de la sierva y otro de la mujer libre.
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondwoman, and the other by a free.
23 Sin embargo, el hijo de la sierva nació según la carne, pero el hijo de la mujer libre nació por la promesa.
Now the son of the bond-maid was born after the flesh, but that by the free woman was by promise.
24 Estas cosas contienen una alegoría, pues se trata de dos pactos. Uno es el del monte Sinaí, que da hijos a la esclavitud, que es Agar.
Which things are allegorical; for these are the two covenants, the one from mount Sinai, gendering unto bondage, which is represented by Agar.
25 Pues esta Agar es el monte Sinaí en Arabia, y responde a la Jerusalén que existe ahora, pues está en esclavitud con sus hijos.
For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds with Jerusalem that now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 Pero la Jerusalén de arriba es libre, que es la madre de todos nosotros.
But the Jerusalem above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27 Porque está escrito, “Alégrate, estéril que no das a luz. Rompe y grita, tú que no te afanas. Porque la mujer desolada tiene más hijos que la que tiene marido”.
For it is written, “Rejoice, thou barren who bearest not, cry out and shout for joy, thou that travailest not, for more are the children of her that was desolate, than of her which had an husband.”
28 Ahora bien, nosotros, hermanos, como Isaac, somos hijos de la promesa.
So we, brethren, as Isaac, are the children of the promise.
29 Pero como entonces, el que había nacido según la carne persiguió al que había nacido según el Espíritu, así también es ahora.
But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so is it now.
30 Sin embargo, ¿qué dice la Escritura? “Echad a la sierva y a su hijo, porque el hijo de la sierva no heredará con el hijo de la mujer libre”.
But what saith the scripture? “Cast out the bond-woman and her son for the son of the bond-maid shall in no wise inherit with the son of the free woman.”
31 Así que, hermanos, no somos hijos de una sierva, sino de la mujer libre.
So then, brethren, we are not the children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
