Esdras 9
1 Cuando se hicieron estas cosas, los príncipes se acercaron a mí, diciendo: “El pueblo de Israel, los sacerdotes y los levitas no se han separado de los pueblos de las tierras, siguiendo sus abominaciones, las de los cananeos, los hititas, los ferezeos, los jebuseos, los amonitas, los moabitas, los egipcios y los amorreos.
When as these things were done, the rulers came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the Priestes, and the Leuites are not separated from the people of the lands (as touching their abominations) to wit, of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Iebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.
2 Porque han tomado de sus hijas para sí y para sus hijos, de modo que la santa descendencia se ha mezclado con los pueblos de las tierras. Sí, la mano de los príncipes y gobernantes ha sido la principal en esta transgresión”.
For they haue taken their daughters to theselues, and to their sonnes, and they haue mixed the holy seede with the people of the landes, and the hande of the princes and rulers hath bene chiefe in this trespasse.
3 Cuando oí esto, rasgué mi vestido y mi túnica, me arranqué el pelo de la cabeza y de la barba, y me senté confundido.
But when I heard this saying, I rent my clothes and my garment, and pluckt off the heare of mine head, and of my beard, and sate downe astonied.
4 Entonces se reunieron conmigo todos los que temían las palabras del Dios de Israel a causa de la transgresión de los desterrados, y me senté confundido hasta la ofrenda de la tarde.
And there assembled vnto me all that feared the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of them of the captiuitie. And I sate downe astonied vntil the euening sacrifice.
5 En la ofrenda de la tarde me levanté de mi humillación, con mi manto y mi túnica rasgados; caí de rodillas y extendí mis manos a Yahvé, mi Dios;
And at the euening sacrifice I arose vp from mine heauinesse, and when I had rent my clothes and my garment, I fell vpon my knees, and spred out mine hands vnto the Lord my God,
6 y dije: “Dios mío, me avergüenzo y me sonrojo al levantar mi rostro hacia ti, mi Dios, porque nuestras iniquidades han aumentado sobre nuestra cabeza, y nuestra culpa ha crecido hasta el cielo.
And said, O my God, I am confounded and ashamed, to lift vp mine eyes vnto thee my God: for our iniquities are increased ouer our head, and our trespasse is growen vp vnto the heauen.
7 Desde los días de nuestros padres hemos sido sumamente culpables hasta el día de hoy; y por nuestras iniquidades nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes hemos sido entregados en manos de los reyes de las tierras, a la espada, al cautiverio, al saqueo y a la confusión de rostro, como sucede en este día.
From the dayes of our fathers haue we bin in a great trespasse vnto this day, and for our iniquities haue we, our Kings, and our Priestes bene deliuered into the hand of the kings of the lands, vnto the sword, into captiuitie, into a spoyle, and into confusion of face, as appeareth this day.
8 Ahora bien, por un momento se ha manifestado la gracia de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, de dejarnos un remanente para que escapemos, y de darnos una estaca en su lugar santo, para que nuestro Dios ilumine nuestros ojos, y nos reanime un poco en nuestra esclavitud.
And now for a litle space grace hath bene shewed from the Lord our God, in causing a remnant to escape, and in giuing vs a nayle in his holy place, that our God may light our eyes, and giue vs a litle reuiuing in our seruitude.
9 Porque somos siervos de la esclavitud, pero nuestro Dios no nos ha abandonado en nuestra esclavitud, sino que nos ha extendido su bondad a los ojos de los reyes de Persia, para revivirnos, para levantar la casa de nuestro Dios y reparar sus ruinas, y para darnos un muro en Judá y en Jerusalén.
For though we were bondmen, yet our God hath not forsaken vs in our bondage, but hath enclined mercy vnto vs in the sight of the Kings of Persia, to giue vs life, and to erect the house of our God, and to redresse the places thereof, and to giue vs a wall in Iudah and in Ierusalem.
10 “Ahora, Dios nuestro, ¿qué diremos después de esto? Porque hemos abandonado tus mandamientos,
And nowe, our God, what shall we say after this? for we haue forsaken thy commandements,
11 que has ordenado por medio de tus siervos los profetas, diciendo: ‘La tierra a la que vais a poseer es una tierra impura por la impureza de los pueblos de las tierras, por sus abominaciones, que la han llenado de un extremo a otro con su inmundicia.
Which thou hast commanded by thy seruants the Prophets, saying, The land whereunto ye go to possesse it, is an vncleane land, because of the filthines of the people of the lands, which by their abominations, and by their vncleannes haue filled it from corner to corner.
12 Ahora, pues, no des tus hijas a sus hijos. No tomes sus hijas para tus hijos, ni busques su paz o su prosperidad para siempre, para que seas fuerte y comas el bien de la tierra, y la dejes en herencia a tus hijos para siempre.’
Now therfore shall ye not giue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take their daughters vnto your sonnes, nor seeke their peace nor wealth for euer, that yee may be strong and eate the goodnes of the lande, and leaue it for an inheritance to your sonnes for euer.
13 “Después de todo lo que ha caído sobre nosotros por nuestras malas acciones y por nuestra gran culpa, ya que tú, nuestro Dios, nos has castigado menos de lo que merecen nuestras iniquidades, y nos has dado tal remanente,
And after all that is come vpon vs for our euill deedes, and for our great trespasses, (seeing that thou our God hast stayed vs from being beneath for our iniquities, and hast giuen vs such deliuerance)
14 ¿volveremos a quebrantar tus mandamientos y a unirnos a los pueblos que hacen estas abominaciones? ¿No te enojarías con nosotros hasta consumirnos, para que no quedara ningún remanente, ni ninguno que pudiera escapar?
Should we returne to breake thy commadements, and ioyne in affinitie with the people of such abominations? wouldest not thou be angrie towarde vs till thou haddest consumed vs, so that there should be no remnant nor any escaping?
15 Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, tú eres justo; porque nos ha quedado un remanente que ha escapado, como ocurre hoy. He aquí que estamos ante ti en nuestra culpabilidad; pues nadie puede permanecer ante ti a causa de esto”.
O Lord God of Israel, thou art iust, for we haue bene reserued to escape, as appeareth this day: beholde, we are before thee in our trespasse: therfore we canot stand before thee because of it.
