Esdras 10

1 Mientras Esdras oraba y se confesaba, llorando y postrándose ante la casa de Dios, se reunió con él, de parte de Israel, una asamblea muy numerosa de hombres, mujeres y niños, pues el pueblo lloraba muy amargamente.

Now while Ezra prayed, and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children; for the people wept very sore.

2 Secanías, hijo de Jehiel, uno de los hijos de Elam, respondió a Esdras: “Nos hemos rebelado contra nuestro Dios y nos hemos casado con mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de la tierra. Sin embargo, ahora hay esperanza para Israel en cuanto a esto.

And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra: 'We have broken faith with our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.

3 Ahora, pues, hagamos un pacto con nuestro Dios para repudiar a todas las mujeres y a los nacidos de ellas, según el consejo de mi señor y de los que temen el mandamiento de nuestro Dios. Que se haga según la ley.

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of the LORD, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

4 Levántate, pues el asunto te pertenece y nosotros estamos contigo. Sé valiente y hazlo”.

Arise; for the matter belongeth unto thee, and we are with thee; be of good courage, and do it.'

5 Entonces Esdras se levantó e hizo jurar a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los levitas y a todo Israel que harían lo que se les dijera. Así lo juraron.

Then arose Ezra, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.

6 Entonces Esdras se levantó de delante de la casa de Dios y entró en la habitación de Johanán, hijo de Eliasib. Cuando llegó allí, no comió pan ni bebió agua, pues se lamentó por la transgresión de los exiliados.

Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib; and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water; for he mourned because of the faithlessness of them of the captivity.

7 Hicieron un pregón por todo Judá y Jerusalén a todos los hijos del cautiverio, para que se reunieran en Jerusalén;

And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

8 y que el que no viniera dentro de tres días, según el consejo de los príncipes y de los ancianos, perdiera todos sus bienes, y él mismo se separara de la asamblea del cautiverio.

and that whosoever came not within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of the captivity.

9 Entonces todos los hombres de Judá y de Benjamín se reunieron en Jerusalén dentro de los tres días. Era el mes noveno, a los veinte días del mes; y todo el pueblo se sentó en el amplio lugar frente a la casa de Dios, temblando por este asunto y por la gran lluvia.

Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the broad place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.

10 El sacerdote Esdras se levantó y les dijo: “Ustedes han cometido una infracción y se han casado con mujeres extranjeras, aumentando la culpa de Israel.

And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them: 'Ye have broken faith, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel.

11 Ahora, pues, confesad a Yahvé, el Dios de vuestros padres, y haced su voluntad. Sepárense de los pueblos de la tierra y de las mujeres extranjeras”.

Now therefore make confession unto the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.'

12 Entonces toda la asamblea respondió en voz alta: “Debemos hacer lo que has dicho sobre nosotros.

Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice: 'As thou hast said, so it is for us to do.

13 Pero el pueblo es numeroso, y es tiempo de mucha lluvia, y no podemos quedarnos afuera. Esta no es una obra de un día ni de dos, pues hemos transgredido mucho en este asunto.

But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.

14 Ahora bien, que se designen nuestros príncipes para toda la asamblea, y que vengan a horas señaladas todos los que están en nuestras ciudades que se han casado con mujeres extranjeras, y con ellos los ancianos de cada ciudad y sus jueces, hasta que se aparte de nosotros la feroz ira de nuestro Dios, hasta que se resuelva este asunto.”

Let now our princes of all the congregation stand, and let all them that are in our cities that have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, as touching this matter.'

15 Sólo Jonatán, hijo de Asahel, y Jahzé, hijo de Ticva, se opusieron a esto; y Mesulam y el levita Sabetai los ayudaron.

Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this matter; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

16 Así lo hicieron los hijos del cautiverio. El sacerdote Esdras, con algunos jefes de familia, según sus casas paternas, y todos ellos por sus nombres, fueron apartados; y se sentaron el primer día del décimo mes para examinar el asunto.

And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers' houses, after their fathers' houses, and all of them by their names, were separated; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.

17 Terminaron con todos los hombres que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras para el primer día del primer mes.

And they were finished with all the men that had married foreign women by the first day of the first month.

18 Entre los hijos de los sacerdotes se encontraron algunos que se habían casado con mujeres extranjeras: de los hijos de Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, y sus hermanos: Maasías, Eliezer, Jarib y Gedalías.

And among the sons of the priests there were found that had married foreign women, namely: of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.

19 Ellos dieron su mano para que repudiaran a sus mujeres; y siendo culpables, ofrecieron un carnero del rebaño por su culpa.

And they gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt.

20 De los hijos de Immer Hanani y Zebadiah.

And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.

21 De los hijos de Harim: Maasías, Elías, Semaías, Jehiel y Uzías.

And of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

22 De los hijos de Pashur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ismael, Natanel, Jozabad y Elasah.

And of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.

23 De los levitas: Jozabad, Simei, Kelaiah (también llamado Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah y Eliezer.

And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah — the same is Kelita — Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 De los cantantes: Eliashib. De los guardianes de la puerta: Shallum, Telem y Uri.

And of the singers: Eliashib; and of the porters: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.

25 De Israel: De los hijos de Paros: Ramías, Izzías, Malquías, Mijamín, Eleazar, Malquías y Benaías.

And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Izziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 De los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremot y Elías.

And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

27 De los hijos de Zattu Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad y Aziza.

And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 De los hijos de Bebai Johanán, Hananías, Zabbai y Atilái.

And of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

29 De los hijos de Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal y Jeremoth.

And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

30 De los hijos de Pahatmoab Adna, Quelal, Benaía, Maasías, Matanías, Bezalel, Binúi y Manasés.

And of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 De los hijos de Harim Eliezer, Ishijá, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,

And of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon;

32 Benjamín, Malluch y Semarías.

Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

33 De los hijos de Hasum: Mattenai, Matattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasés y Simei.

Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

34 De los hijos de Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel,

Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel;

35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,

Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhu;

36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,

Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib;

37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, Jaasu,

Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasai;

38 Bani, Binnui, Shimei,

and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei;

39 Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,

Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah;

40 Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,

Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai;

41 Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,

Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah;

42 Shallum, Amariah, y Joseph.

43 De los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, Joel y Benaiah.

Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, and Joel, Benaiah.

44 Todos ellos habían tomado esposas extranjeras. Algunos de ellos tenían esposas con las que tenían hijos.

All these had taken foreign wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
