Ezequiel 20

1 En el séptimo año, en el quinto mes, a los diez días del mes, algunos de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a consultar a Yahvé y se sentaron ante mí.

And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month: there came men of the ancients of Israel to inquire of the Lord, and they sat before me.

2 La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

3 “Hijo de hombre, habla a los ancianos de Israel y diles: “El Señor Yahvé dice: “¿Es para consultarme que han venido? Vivo yo, dice el Señor Yahvé, que no seré consultado por vosotros”.

Son of man, speak to the ancients of Israel, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Are you come to inquire of me? As I live, I will not answer you, saith the Lord God.

4 “¿Los juzgarás, hijo de hombre? ¿Los juzgarás? Haz que conozcan las abominaciones de sus padres.

If thou judgest them, if thou judgest, son of man, declare to them the abominations of their fathers.

5 Diles: El Señor Yahvé dice: “El día en que elegí a Israel y juré a la descendencia de la casa de Jacob, y me di a conocer a ellos en la tierra de Egipto, cuando les juré diciendo: ‘Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios’;

And say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up my hand for the race of the house of Jacob: and appeared to them in the land of Egypt, and lifted up my hand for them, saying: I am the Lord your God:

6 ese día les juré que los sacaría de la tierra de Egipto a una tierra que les había buscado, que fluye leche y miel, que es la gloria de todas las tierras.

In that day I lifted up my hand for them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt, into a land which I had provided for them, flowing with milk and honey, which excelleth amongst all lands.

7 Les dije: “Cada uno de ustedes deseche las abominaciones de sus ojos. No se contaminen con los ídolos de Egipto. Yo soy Yahvé, vuestro Dios’.

And I said to them: Let every man cast away the scandals of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

8 “‘“Pero se rebelaron contra mí y no me escucharon. No todos se deshicieron de las abominaciones de sus ojos. Tampoco abandonaron los ídolos de Egipto. Entonces dije que derramaría mi ira sobre ellos, para cumplir mi enojo contra ellos en medio de la tierra de Egipto.

But they provoked me, and would not hearken to me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of his eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: and I said I would pour out my indignation upon them, and accomplish my wrath against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

9 Pero obré por amor a mi nombre, para que no fuera profanado a la vista de las naciones entre las que estaban, a cuya vista me di a conocer al sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto.

But I did otherwise for my name’s sake, that it might not be violated before the nations, in the midst of whom they were, and among whom I made myself known to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt.

10 Los hice salir de la tierra de Egipto y los llevé al desierto.

Therefore I brought them out from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the desert.

11 Les di mis estatutos y les mostré mis ordenanzas, que si el hombre las cumple, vivirá en ellas.

And I gave them my statutes, and I shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them.

12 Además, les di mis sábados, para que fueran una señal entre ellos y yo, para que supieran que yo soy el Señor que los santifica.

Moreover I gave them also my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them: and that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.

13 “‘“Pero la casa de Israel se rebeló contra mí en el desierto. No anduvieron en mis estatutos y rechazaron mis ordenanzas, que si un hombre guarda, vivirá en ellas. Profanaron en gran medida mis sábados. Entonces dije que derramaría mi ira sobre ellos en el desierto, para consumirlos.

But the house of Israel provoked me in the desert: they walked not in my statutes, and they cast away my judgments, which if a man do he shall live in them: and they grievously violated my sabbaths. I said therefore that I would pour out my indignation upon them in the desert, and would consume them.

14 Pero obré por amor a mi nombre, para que no fuera profanado a los ojos de las naciones, a cuya vista los saqué.

But I spared them for the sake of my name, lest it should be profaned before the nations, from which I brought them out, in their sight.

15 Además, les juré en el desierto que no los introduciría en la tierra que les había dado, que mana leche y miel, que es la gloria de todas las tierras,

So I lifted up my hand over them in the desert, not to bring them into the land which I had given them flowing with milk and honey, the best of all lands.

16 porque rechazaron mis ordenanzas, no anduvieron en mis estatutos y profanaron mis sábados, pues su corazón se fue tras sus ídolos.

Because they cast off my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, and violated my sabbaths: for their heart went after idols.

17 Sin embargo, mi ojo los perdonó, y no los destruí. No acabé con ellos en el desierto.

Yet my eye spared them, so that I destroyed them not: neither did I consume them in the desert.

18 Dije a sus hijos en el desierto: ‘No anden en los estatutos de sus padres. No observen sus ordenanzas ni se contaminen con sus ídolos.

And I said to their children in the wilderness: Walk not in the statutes of your fathers, and observe not their judgments, nor be ye defiled with their idols:

19 Yo soy el Señor, tu Dios. Caminen en mis estatutos, guarden mis ordenanzas y cúmplanlas.

I am the Lord your God: walk ye in my statutes, and observe my judgments, and do them.

20 Santificad mis sábados. Serán una señal entre ustedes y yo, para que sepan que yo soy el Señor, su Dios”.

And sanctify my sabbaths, that they may be a sign between me and you: and that you may know that I am the Lord your God.

21 “‘“Pero los hijos se rebelaron contra mí. No anduvieron en mis estatutos, y no guardaron mis ordenanzas para cumplirlas, las cuales, si el hombre las cumple, vivirá en ellas. Profanaron mis sábados. Entonces dije que derramaría mi ira sobre ellos, para cumplir mi enojo contra ellos en el desierto.

But their children provoked me, they walked not in my commandments, nor observed my judgments to do them: which if a man do, he shell live in them: and they violated my sabbaths: and I threatened to pour out my indignation upon them, and to accomplish my wrath in them in the desert.

22 Sin embargo, retiré mi mano y trabajé por amor a mi nombre, para que no fuera profanado a los ojos de las naciones, a cuya vista los saqué.

But I turned away my hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it might not be violated before the nations, out of which I brought them forth in their sight.

23 Además, les juré en el desierto que los esparciría entre las naciones y los dispersaría por los países,

Again I lifted up my hand upon them in the wilderness, to disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries:

24 porque no habían ejecutado mis ordenanzas, sino que habían rechazado mis estatutos, y habían profanado mis sábados, y sus ojos estaban tras los ídolos de sus padres.

Because they had not done my judgments, and had cast off my statutes, and had violated my sabbaths, and their eyes had been after the idols of their fathers.

25 Además, les di estatutos que no eran buenos, y ordenanzas en las que no podían vivir.

Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good, and judgments, in which they shall not live.

26 Los contaminé en sus propios dones, al hacer pasar por el fuego todo lo que abre el vientre, para desolarlos, a fin de que supieran que yo soy Yahvé”.

And I polluted them in their own gifts, when they offered all that opened the womb, for their offences: and they shall know that I am the Lord.

27 “Por tanto, hijo de hombre, habla a la casa de Israel y diles: El Señor Yahvé dice: “Además, en esto me han blasfemado vuestros padres, pues han cometido una transgresión contra mí.

Wherefore speak to the house of Israel, O son of man, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Moreover in this also your fathers blasphemed me, when they had despised and contemned me;

28 Porque cuando los introduje en la tierra que juré darles, entonces vieron todo monte alto y todo árbol espeso, y allí ofrecieron sus sacrificios, y allí presentaron la provocación de su ofrenda. Allí hicieron también su aroma agradable, y allí derramaron sus libaciones.

And I had brought them into the land, for which I lifted up my hand to give it them: they saw every high hill, and every shady tree, and there they sacrificed their victims: and there they presented the provocation of their offerings, and there they set their sweet odours, and poured forth their libations.

29 Entonces les dije: “¿Qué significa el lugar alto donde ustedes van?”. Así que su nombre se llama Bamah hasta el día de hoy”.

And I said to them: What meaneth the high place to which you go? and the name thereof was called High-place even to this day.

30 “Por tanto, di a la casa de Israel: El Señor Yahvé dice: “¿Os contamináis en el camino de vuestros padres? ¿Acaso os prostituís según sus abominaciones?

Wherefore say to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Verily, you are defiled in the way of your fathers, and you commit fornication with their abominations.

31 Cuando ofrecéis vuestras ofrendas, cuando hacéis pasar a vuestros hijos por el fuego, ¿os contamináis con todos vuestros ídolos hasta el día de hoy? ¿Acaso debo ser consultado por ustedes, casa de Israel? Vivo yo, dice el Señor Yahvé, y no seré consultado por ustedes.

And you defile yourselves with all your: idols unto this day, in the offering of your gifts, when you make your children pass through the fire: and shall I answer you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord God, I will not answer you.

32 “‘“Lo que se te ocurra no será en absoluto, pues dices: ‘Seremos como las naciones, como las familias de los países, para servir a la madera y a la piedra’.

Neither shall the thought of your mind come to pass, by which you say: We will be as the Gentiles, and as the families of the earth, to worship stocks and stones.

33 Vivo yo, dice el Señor Yahvé, que con mano poderosa, con brazo extendido y con ira derramada, seré rey sobre vosotros.

As I live, saith the Lord God, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

34 Te sacaré de los pueblos y te reuniré de los países en los que estás disperso con mano poderosa, con brazo extendido y con ira derramada.

And I will bring you out from the people, and I will gather you out of the countries, in which you are scattered, I will reign over you with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.

35 Os llevaré al desierto de los pueblos, y allí entraré en juicio con vosotros cara a cara.

And I will bring you into the wilderness of people, and there will I plead with you face to face.

36 Así como entré en juicio con vuestros padres en el desierto de la tierra de Egipto, así entraré en juicio con vosotros”, dice el Señor Yahvé.

As I pleaded against your fathers in the desert of the land of Egypt; even so will I judge you, saith the Lord God.

37 “Os haré pasar bajo la vara, y os haré entrar en el vínculo de la alianza.

And I will make you subject to my sceptre, and will bring you into the bands of the covenant.

38 Voy a purgar de entre ustedes a los rebeldes y a los que me desobedecen. Los sacaré de la tierra donde viven, pero no entrarán en la tierra de Israel. Entonces sabrán que yo soy Yahvé”.

And I will pick out from among you the transgressors, and the wicked, and will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the Lord.

39 “‘En cuanto a vosotros, casa de Israel, el Señor Yahvé dice: “Id, servid cada uno a sus ídolos, y en adelante también, si no me escucháis; pero no profanaréis más mi santo nombre con vuestras ofrendas y con vuestros ídolos.

And as for you, O house of Israel: thus saith the Lord God: Walk ye every one after your idols, and serve them. But if in this also you hear me not, but defile my holy name any more with your gifts, and with your idols;

40 Porque en mi monte santo, en el monte de la altura de Israel — dice el Señor Yahvé —, allí me servirá toda la casa de Israel, todos ellos, en la tierra. Allí los aceptaré, y allí requeriré sus ofrendas y las primicias de sus ofrendas, con todas sus cosas sagradas.

In my holy mountain, in the high mountain of Israel, saith the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel serve me; all of them I say, in the land in which they shall please me, and there will I require your firstfruits, and the chief of your tithes with all your sanctifications.

41 Los aceptaré como un aroma agradable cuando los saque de los pueblos y los reúna de los países en los que han estado dispersos. Seré santificado en ustedes a la vista de las naciones.

I will accept of you for an odour of sweetness, when I shall have brought you out from the people, and shall have gathered you out of the lands into which you are scattered, and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.

42 Sabrás que yo soy Yahvé cuando te lleve a la tierra de Israel, al país que juré dar a tus padres.

And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have brought you into the land of Israel, into the land for which I lifted up my hand to give it to your fathers.

43 Allí os acordaréis de vuestros caminos y de todas vuestras obras en las que os habéis contaminado. Entonces os aborreceréis ante vuestros propios ojos por todos vuestros males que habéis cometido.

And there you shall remember your ways, and all your wicked doings with which you have been defiled; and you shall be displeased with yourselves in your own sight, for all your wicked deeds which you committed.

44 Sabréis que yo soy Yahvé, cuando os haya tratado por amor a mi nombre, no según vuestros malos caminos, ni según vuestras corruptas acciones, casa de Israel”, dice el Señor Yahvé”.

And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have done well by you for my own name’s sake, and not according to your evil ways, nor according to your wicked deeds, O house of Israel, saith the Lord God.

45 La palabra de Yahvé vino a mí, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

46 “Hijo de hombre, pon tu rostro hacia el sur, y predica hacia el sur, y profetiza contra el bosque del campo en el sur.

Son of man, set thy face against the way of the south, and drop towards the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field.

47 Dile al bosque del sur: “Escucha la palabra de Yahvé: El Señor Yahvé dice: “He aquí que yo encenderé en ti un fuego que devorará todo árbol verde que haya en ti, y todo árbol seco. La llama ardiente no se apagará, y todos los rostros, desde el sur hasta el norte, serán quemados por ella.

And any to the south forest: Hear the word of the Lord: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will kindle a fire in thee, and will burn in thee every green tree, and every dry tree: the dame of the fire shall not be quenched: and every face shall be burned in it, from the south even to the north.

48 Toda carne verá que yo, Yahvé, la he encendido. No se apagará”.

And all flesh shall see, that I the Lord have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.

49 Entonces dije: “¡Ah, Señor Yahvé! Dicen de mí: “¿No es un orador de parábolas?”

And I said: Ah, ah, ah, O Lord God: they say of me: Doth not this man speak by parables?
