Ester 9
1 En el mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar, a los trece días del mes, cuando el mandamiento del rey y su decreto estaban a punto de ser ejecutados, el día en que los enemigos de los judíos esperaban conquistarlos, (pero resultó lo contrario, que los judíos conquistaron a los que los odiaban),
Now in the twelfth month (that is the month of Adar), on the thirteenth day, when the king’s command and his decree was about to put into execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to gain the mastery over them, then the tables were turned so that the Jews had the mastery over those who hated them.
2 los judíos se reunieron en sus ciudades por todas las provincias del rey Asuero, para echar mano a los que querían hacerles daño. Nadie pudo resistirlos, porque el temor a ellos había caído sobre todo el pueblo.
The Jews gathered together in the cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to attack anyone who tried to harm them. No one could withstand them, for the fear of them had fallen on all the peoples.
3 Todos los príncipes de las provincias, los gobernadores locales, los intendentes y los que se ocupaban de los asuntos del rey ayudaban a los judíos, porque el temor a Mardoqueo había caído sobre ellos.
All the princes of the provinces and the satraps and the governors and they who attended to the king’s business, helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai had fallen on them.
4 Porque Mardoqueo era grande en la casa del rey, y su fama se extendía por todas las provincias, pues el hombre Mardoqueo se hacía cada vez más grande.
For Mordecai was great in the king’s palace, and as his power increased his fame spread throughout all the provinces.
5 Los judíos golpeaban a todos sus enemigos a golpe de espada, con matanza y destrucción, y hacían lo que querían con los que los odiaban.
The Jews put all their enemies to the sword and, with slaughter and destruction, they did what they wanted to those who hated them.
6 En la ciudadela de Susa, los judíos mataron y destruyeron a quinientos hombres.
In Susa the capital the Jews killed five hundred people.
7 Mataron a Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,
They killed Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,
8 Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,
Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha,
9 Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, y Vaizatha,
Parmashta, Arisia, Aridai, and Vaizatha,
10 los diez hijos de Haman hijo de Hammedatha, el enemigo de los judíos, pero no pusieron su mano en el botín.
the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jews’ enemy; but they did not take any plunder.
11 Aquel día se presentó ante el rey el número de los muertos en la ciudadela de Susa.
On that day the number of those who were slain in Susa was brought before the king,
12 El rey dijo a la reina Ester: “Los judíos han matado y destruido a quinientos hombres en la ciudadela de Susa, incluidos los diez hijos de Amán; ¡qué han hecho entonces en el resto de las provincias del rey! ¿Cuál es tu petición? Se te concederá. ¿Cuál es tu otra petición? Se hará”.
and the king said to Queen Esther, ‘The Jews have slain five hundred people in Susa, and the ten sons of Haman. What then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It will be granted to you. What is your request? It will be done.’
13 Entonces Ester dijo: “Si al rey le parece bien, que se conceda a los judíos que están en Susa que hagan también mañana lo que se ha decretado hoy, y que los diez hijos de Amán sean colgados en la horca.”
‘If it please the king,’ Esther said, ‘let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to do tomorrow also according to this day’s decree. Let the bodies of Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.’
14 El rey ordenó que se hiciera esto. Se dio un decreto en Susa, y colgaron a los diez hijos de Amán.
And the king commanded it to be done. A decree was given out in Susa and they hung the bodies of Haman’s ten sons on the gallows.
15 Los judíos que estaban en Susa se reunieron también el día catorce del mes de Adar y mataron a trescientos hombres en Susa, pero no pusieron la mano en el botín.
The Jews who were in Susa gathered themselves together again on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar. They killed three hundred people in Susa. But they did not take any plunder.
16 Los demás judíos que estaban en las provincias del rey se reunieron, defendieron sus vidas, descansaron de sus enemigos y mataron a setenta y cinco mil de los que los odiaban; pero no pusieron su mano en el botín.
And the other Jews who were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together and fought for their lives and overcame their enemies. They killed seventy-five thousand who hated them. But they did not take any plunder.
17 Esto lo hicieron el día trece del mes de Adar, y el día catorce de ese mes descansaron y lo convirtieron en un día de fiesta y alegría.
This was on the thirteenth day of Adar. On the fourteenth day of the month Adar the Jews rested and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing.
18 Pero los judíos que estaban en Susa se reunieron los días trece y catorce del mes; y el día quince de ese mes descansaron, y lo convirtieron en un día de fiesta y alegría.
(But the Jews in Susa gathered on both the thirteenth and fourteenth day – and rested on the fifteenth day of the same month and made it a day of feasting and rejoicing.)
19 Por lo tanto, los judíos de las aldeas que viven en las ciudades no amuralladas, hacen del decimocuarto día del mes de Adar un día de alegría y de fiesta, un día festivo, y un día para enviarse regalos de comida unos a otros.
This is why the Jews who live in the country villages keep the fourteenth day of the month of Adar as a day of rejoicing and feasting and a holiday, and a day in which they send gifts of food to each other.
20 Mardoqueo escribió estas cosas y envió cartas a todos los judíos que se encontraban en todas las provincias del rey Asuero, tanto de cerca como de lejos,
Mordecai had these things recorded. He sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, both near and far.
21 para ordenarles que celebraran anualmente los días catorce y quince del mes de Adar,
He told them to keep the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and also the fifteenth day every year,
22 como los días en que los judíos descansaban de sus enemigos, y el mes que se convertía para ellos de tristeza en alegría, y de luto en fiesta; para que los hicieran días de fiesta y de alegría, y para que se enviaran regalos de comida unos a otros, y regalos a los necesitados.
as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned from sorrow to gladness and from mourning into a feast day. They should make them days of feasting and gladness and of sending gifts of food to each other and of gifts to the poor.
23 Los judíos aceptaron la costumbre que habían iniciado, como les había escrito Mardoqueo,
So what the Jews had begun to do they adopted as a custom, just as Mordecai had written to them.
24 porque Amán, hijo de Hamedata, el agagita, enemigo de todos los judíos, había tramado contra los judíos para destruirlos, y había echado a “Pur”, es decir, a la suerte, para consumirlos y destruirlos;
For Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted to destroy them. He had cast “Pur”, that is the lot, intending to consume them and to destroy them.
25 pero cuando esto fue conocido por el rey, éste ordenó por cartas que su malvado plan, que había planeado contra los judíos, volviera sobre su propia cabeza, y que él y sus hijos fueran colgados en la horca.
But when the matter came before the king, he gave written orders that his wicked plot, which he had planned against the Jews, should come upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
26 Por eso llamaron a estos días “Purim”, de la palabra “Pur”. Por lo tanto, a causa de todas las palabras de esta carta, y de lo que habían visto sobre este asunto, y de lo que les había llegado,
This is why these days are called Purim, after the word Pur. Therefore because of all the words of this letter, as well as all they had seen, and all they had experienced,
27 los judíos establecieron y se impusieron a sí mismos, a sus descendientes y a todos los que se unieron a ellos, para que no dejasen de guardar estos dos días según lo que estaba escrito y según su tiempo señalado cada año;
the Jews established and made it a custom for them, for their descendants, and for all who should join them, so that it might not be repealed, that they should continue to observe these two days as feasts each year,
28 y que estos días fueran recordados y guardados a través de cada generación, cada familia, cada provincia y cada ciudad; y que estos días de Purim no desaparecieran de entre los judíos, ni su memoria pereciera de su descendencia.
and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city. And these days of Purim should not pass away from among the Jews nor the remembrance of them disappear among their descendants.
29 Entonces la reina Ester, hija de Abihail, y el judío Mardoqueo escribieron con toda autoridad para confirmar esta segunda carta de Purim.
Queen Esther, the daughter of Abihail, gave Mordecai the Jew all authority in writing to confirm this second letter of Purim.
30 Envió cartas a todos los judíos de las ciento veintisiete provincias del reino de Asuero con palabras de paz y de verdad,
He sent letters to all the Jews, to the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, wishing them peace and security,
31 para confirmar estos días de Purim en sus tiempos señalados, como habían decretado Mardoqueo el judío y la reina Ester, y como se habían impuesto a sí mismos y a sus descendientes en materia de ayunos y de luto.
to confirm these days of Purim in their proper times, to be observed as Mordecai the Jew and Queen Esther had directed and as the Jews had proscribed for themselves and their descendants, in the matter of the fastings and their cry of lamentation.
32 El mandamiento de Ester confirmó estos asuntos de Purim; y fue escrito en el libro.
And the commands of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the records.
