Eclesiastés 7
1 El buen nombre es mejor que el perfume fino, y el día de la muerte mejor que el día del nacimiento.
A good name is better than precious perfume, and the day of one's death than the day of his birth.
2 Es mejor ir a la casa del luto que a la casa del banquete; porque ése es el fin de todos los hombres, y los vivos deben tenerlo en cuenta.
It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting; for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to heart.
3 Mejor es la tristeza que la risa, porque con la tristeza del rostro el corazón se hace bueno.
Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
4 El corazón de los sabios está en la casa del luto; pero el corazón de los necios está en la casa de la alegría.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5 Mejor es oír la reprensión de los sabios que oír la canción de los necios.
It is better for a man to hear the rebuke of the wise than to hear the song of fools.
6 Porque como el crepitar de las espinas debajo de la olla, así es la risa del necio. Esto también es vanidad.
For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of a fool. This also is vanity.
7 Ciertamente la extorsión hace necio al sabio; y el soborno destruye el entendimiento.
Surely the gain of oppression maketh a wise man foolish, and a gift corrupteth the understanding.
8 Mejor es el fin de una cosa que su principio. El paciente de espíritu es mejor que el orgulloso de espíritu.
Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. Better is the patient in spirit than the proud in spirit.
9 No te apresures en tu espíritu a enojarte, porque la ira reposa en el seno de los necios.
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
10 No digas: “¿Por qué los días anteriores eran mejores que éstos?” Porque no preguntas con sabiduría sobre esto.
Say not, “What is the cause that the former days were better than these?” For thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
11 La sabiduría es tan buena como una herencia. Sí, es más excelente para los que ven el sol.
Wisdom is as good as an estate? yea, it hath an advantage over it for them that see the sun.
12 Porque la sabiduría es una defensa, así como el dinero es una defensa; pero la excelencia del conocimiento es que la sabiduría preserva la vida de quien la tiene.
For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence. But knowledge hath the advantage. For wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
13 Considerad la obra de Dios, pues ¿quién podrá enderezar lo que él ha hecho torcido?
Consider the work of God! Who can make straight that which he hath made crooked?
14 En el día de la prosperidad alégrate, y en el día de la adversidad considera; sí, Dios ha hecho lo uno junto a lo otro, para que el hombre no descubra nada después de él.
In the day of prosperity be joyful; but look for a day of adversity! for this also, as well as the other, hath God appointed, to the end that a man should not find out any thing which shall be after him.
15 Todo esto lo he visto en mis días de vanidad: hay un justo que perece en su justicia, y hay un malvado que vive mucho tiempo en su maldad.
All this have I seen in my days of vanity. There are righteous men who perish in their righteousness, and there are wicked men who live long in their wickedness.
16 No seas demasiado justo, ni te hagas demasiado sabio. ¿Por qué has de destruirte a ti mismo?
Be not righteous overmuch; neither make thyself over-wise! Why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
17 No seas demasiado malvado, ni seas necio. ¿Por qué has de morir antes de tiempo?
Be not overmuch wicked; neither be thou a fool! Why shouldst thou die before thy time?
18 Es bueno que te apoderes de esto. Sí, tampoco retires tu mano de eso; porque el que teme a Dios saldrá de todas ellas.
It is good that thou shouldst take hold of this; yea, also, from that withdraw not thy hand. For he that feareth God shall escape all those things.
19 La sabiduría es una fuerza para el sabio más que diez gobernantes que hay en una ciudad.
Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men who are in the city.
20 Ciertamente no hay un justo en la tierra que haga el bien y no peque.
Truly there is not a righteous man upon the earth who doeth good and sinneth not.
21 Tampoco prestes atención a todas las palabras que se pronuncian, no sea que oigas a tu siervo maldecirte;
Give no heed to all the words which are spoken, lest thou hear thy servant curse thee!
22 porque a menudo tu propio corazón sabe que tú mismo has maldecido a otros.
For many times thine own heart knoweth also that even thou thyself hast cursed others.
23 Todo esto lo he probado con sabiduría. Dije: “Seré sabio”; pero estuvo lejos de mí.
All this have I tried by wisdom. I said, “I will be wise;” but it was far from me.
24 Lo que es, está lejos y es muy profundo. ¿Quién puede descubrirlo?
That which is far off and exceeding deep, who can find it out?
25 Me volví, y mi corazón buscó conocer y escudriñar, y buscar la sabiduría y el esquema de las cosas, y saber que la maldad es estupidez, y que la necedad es locura.
I applied my mind earnestly to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom and intelligence, and to know wickedness and folly, yea, foolishness and madness.
26 Más amarga que la muerte me parece la mujer cuyo corazón es lazos y trampas, cuyas manos son cadenas. El que agrada a Dios escapará de ella; pero el pecador quedará atrapado por ella.
And I found more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands bands. He that pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be caught by her.
27 “He encontrado esto”, dice el Predicador, “para encontrar una explicación
Behold, this have I found, saith the Preacher, putting one thing to another to find knowledge.
28 que mi alma aún busca, pero no he encontrado. He encontrado un hombre entre mil, pero no he encontrado una mujer entre todos ellos.
That which my soul hath hitherto sought, and I have not found, is this: a man among a thousand I have found, but a woman among a thousand have I not found.
29 He aquí que sólo he encontrado esto: que Dios hizo al género humano recto; pero ellos buscan muchas invenciones.”
Lo, this only have I found, that God made man upright, but they have sought out many devices.
