Eclesiastés 6
1 Hay un mal que he visto bajo el sol, y que pesa sobre los hombres:
There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it [is] great on man:
2 un hombre al que Dios le da riquezas, riqueza y honor, de modo que no le falta nada para su alma de todo lo que desea, pero Dios no le da poder para comer de ello, sino que lo come un extranjero. Esto es vanidad, y es una mala enfermedad.
A man to whom God gives wealth, and riches, and honor, and there is no lack to his soul of all that he desires, and God does not give him power to eat of it, but a stranger eats it; this [is] vanity, and it [is] an evil disease.
3 Si un hombre engendra cien hijos, y vive muchos años, de modo que los días de sus años son muchos, pero su alma no se llena de bien, y además no tiene sepultura, yo digo que un niño que nace muerto es mejor que él;
If a man begets one hundred, and lives many years, and is great, because they are the days of his years, and his soul is not satisfied from the goodness, and also he has not had a grave, I have said, “Better than he [is] the untimely birth.”
4 porque viene en la vanidad, y se va en la oscuridad, y su nombre está cubierto de tinieblas.
For in vanity he came in, and in darkness he goes, and in darkness his name is covered,
5 Además, no ha visto el sol ni lo ha conocido. Este tiene más descanso que el otro.
even the sun he has not seen nor known, more rest has this than that.
6 Sí, aunque viva mil años dos veces contados, y sin embargo no disfrute del bien, ¿no van todos a un mismo lugar?
And though he had lived one thousand years twice over, yet he has not seen good; does not everyone go to the same place?
7 Todo el trabajo del hombre es para su boca, y sin embargo el apetito no se sacia.
All the labor of man [is] for his mouth, And yet the soul is not filled.
8 Pues ¿qué ventaja tiene el sabio más que el necio? ¿Qué tiene el pobre, que sabe andar delante de los vivos?
For what advantage [is] to the wise above the fool? What to the poor who knows to walk before the living?
9 Mejor es la vista de los ojos que el extravío del deseo. También esto es vanidad y persecución del viento.
Better [is] the sight of the eyes than the going of the soul. This [is] also vanity and distress of spirit.
10 Todo lo que ha sido, su nombre fue dado hace tiempo; y se sabe lo que el hombre es; ni puede contender con el que es más poderoso que él.
What [is] that which has been? Already is its name called, and it is known that it [is] man, And he is not able to contend with him who is stronger than he.
11 Porque hay muchas palabras que crean vanidad. ¿De qué le sirve eso al hombre?
For there are many things multiplying vanity; What advantage [is] to man?
12 Porque ¿quién sabe lo que es bueno para el hombre en la vida, todos los días de su vana vida que pasa como una sombra? Porque ¿quién puede decir al hombre lo que será después de él bajo el sol?
For who knows what [is] good for a man in life, the number of the days of the life of his vanity, and he makes them as a shadow? For who declares to man what is after him under the sun?
