Eclesiastés 5
1 Cuida tus pasos cuando vayas a la casa de Dios; porque acercarse a escuchar es mejor que dar el sacrificio de los necios, porque no saben que hacen el mal.
Keep thy foot, when thou goest into the house of God, and draw nigh to hear. For much better is obedience, than the victims of fools, who know not what evil they do.
2 No te precipites con tu boca, ni tu corazón se apresure a decir nada delante de Dios; porque Dios está en el cielo, y tú en la tierra. Por tanto, que tus palabras sean pocas.
Speak not any thing rashly, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
3 Porque como el sueño viene con una multitud de preocupaciones, así el discurso del necio con una multitud de palabras.
Dreams follow many cares: and in many words shall be found folly.
4 Cuando hagas un voto a Dios, no te demores en pagarlo; porque él no se complace en los necios. Paga lo que prometes.
If thou hast vowed any thing to God, defer not to pay it: for an unfaithful and foolish promise displeaseth him: but whatsoever thou hast vowed, pay it.
5 Es mejor que no hagas ningún voto, a que hagas un voto y no lo pagues.
And it is much better not to vow, than after a vow not to perform the things promised.
6 No permitas que tu boca te lleve al pecado. No protestes ante el mensajero que fue un error. ¿Por qué habría de enojarse Dios ante tu voz y destruir la obra de tus manos?
Give not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin: and say not before the angel: There is no providence: lest God be angry at thy words, and destroy all the works of thy hands.
7 Porque en la multitud de sueños hay vanidades, así como en muchas palabras; pero tú debes temer a Dios.
Where there are many dreams, there are many vanities, and words without number: but do thou fear God.
8 Si veis la opresión de los pobres y el despojo violento de la justicia y la rectitud en un distrito, no os maravilléis del asunto, porque un funcionario está vigilado por otro superior, y hay funcionarios por encima de ellos.
If thou shalt see the oppressions of the poor, and violent judgments, and justice perverted in the province, wonder not at this matter: for he that is high hath another higher, and there are others still higher than these:
9 Además, el beneficio de la tierra es para todos. El rey se beneficia del campo.
Moreover there is the king that reigneth over all the land subject to him.
10 El que ama la plata no se saciará con la plata, ni el que ama la abundancia, con el aumento. Esto también es vanidad.
A covetous man shall not be satisfied with money: and he that loveth riches shall reap no fruit from them: so this also is vanity.
11 Cuando los bienes aumentan, los que los comen aumentan; ¿y qué provecho tiene su dueño, sino deleitarse con ellos con los ojos?
Where there are great riches, there are also many to eat them. And what doth it profit the owner, but that he seeth the riches with his eyes?
12 El sueño del trabajador es dulce, ya sea que coma poco o mucho; pero la abundancia del rico no le permite dormir.
Sleep is sweet to a labouring man, whether he eat little or much: but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.
13 Hay un mal grave que he visto bajo el sol: las riquezas guardadas por su dueño para su mal.
There is also another grievous evil, which I have seen under the sun: riches kept to the hurt of the owner.
14 Esas riquezas perecen por la desgracia, y si ha engendrado un hijo, no hay nada en su mano.
For they are lost with very great affliction: he hath begotten a son, who shall be in extremity of want.
15 Tal como salió del vientre de su madre, desnudo volverá a ir como vino, y no tomará nada para su trabajo, que pueda llevarse en la mano.
As he came forth naked from his mother’s womb, so shall he return, and shall take nothing away with him of his labour.
16 Esto también es un mal grave, que en todo como vino, así se irá. ¿Y qué provecho tiene el que trabaja por el viento?
A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind?
17 Además, todos sus días come en las tinieblas, se frustra, y tiene enfermedad e ira.
All the days of his life he eateth in darkness, and in many cares, and in misery, and sorrow.
18 He aquí, lo que he visto que es bueno y apropiado es que uno coma y beba, y que disfrute del bien en todo su trabajo, en el que se esfuerza bajo el sol, todos los días de su vida que Dios le ha dado; porque ésta es su porción.
This therefore hath seemed good to me, that a man should eat and drink, and enjoy the fruit of his labour, wherewith he hath laboured under the sun, all the days of his life, which God hath given him: and this is his portion.
19 También todo hombre a quien Dios le ha dado riquezas y bienes, y le ha dado el poder de comer de ellos, y de tomar su porción, y de alegrarse en su trabajo: éste es el don de Dios.
And every man to whom God hath given riches, and substance, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to enjoy his portion, and to rejoice of his labour: this is the gift of God.
20 Pues no reflexionará a menudo sobre los días de su vida, porque Dios lo ocupa con la alegría de su corazón.
For he shall not much remember the days of his life, because God entertaineth his heart with delight,
