Eclesiastés 3
1 Para todo hay un tiempo, y un tiempo para cada propósito bajo el cielo:
To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 un tiempo para nacer, y un tiempo para morir; un tiempo para plantar, y un tiempo para arrancar lo que está plantado;
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
3 un tiempo para matar, y un tiempo para sanar; un tiempo para romper, y un tiempo de acumulación;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 un tiempo para llorar, y un tiempo para reír; un tiempo de luto, y un tiempo para bailar;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 un tiempo para tirar piedras, y un tiempo para juntar piedras; un tiempo para abrazar, y un tiempo para abstenerse de abrazar;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 un tiempo de búsqueda, y un tiempo para perder; un tiempo para guardar, y un tiempo para desechar;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 un tiempo para rasgar, y un tiempo para coser; un tiempo para guardar silencio, y un tiempo para hablar;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 un tiempo para amar, y un tiempo para odiar; un tiempo de guerra, y un tiempo de paz.
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
9 ¿Qué provecho tiene el que trabaja en lo que trabaja?
What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
10 He visto la carga que Dios ha dado a los hijos de los hombres para que se aflijan.
I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 Él ha hecho que todo sea hermoso en su tiempo. También ha puesto la eternidad en sus corazones, de modo que el hombre no puede descubrir la obra que Dios ha hecho desde el principio hasta el final.
He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 Sé que no hay nada mejor para ellos que alegrarse y hacer el bien mientras vivan.
I know that [there is] no good in them, but for [a man] to rejoice, and to do good in his life.
13 También que todo hombre coma y beba, y goce del bien en todo su trabajo, es el don de Dios.
And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it [is] the gift of God.
14 Sé que todo lo que Dios hace, será para siempre. No se le puede añadir nada, ni se le puede quitar nada; y Dios lo ha hecho, para que los hombres teman ante él.
I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.
15 Lo que es fue hace mucho tiempo, y lo que ha de ser fue hace mucho tiempo. Dios busca de nuevo lo que ha pasado.
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
16 Además, vi bajo el sol, en el lugar de la justicia, que estaba la maldad; y en el lugar de la rectitud, que estaba la maldad.
And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, [that] wickedness [was] there; and the place of righteousness, [that] iniquity [was] there.
17 Dije en mi corazón: “Dios juzgará al justo y al impío; porque hay un tiempo para cada propósito y para cada obra.”
I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for [there is] a time there for every purpose and for every work.
18 Dije en mi corazón: “En cuanto a los hijos de los hombres, Dios los pone a prueba, para que vean que ellos mismos son como animales.
I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 Porque lo que les sucede a los hijos de los hombres les sucede a los animales. Incluso una cosa les sucede a ellos. Como el uno muere, así muere el otro. Sí, todos tienen un mismo aliento; y el hombre no tiene ventaja sobre los animales, pues todo es vanidad.
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.
20 Todos van a un mismo lugar. Todos provienen del polvo, y todos vuelven a ser polvo.
All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 ¿Quién conoce el espíritu del hombre, si va hacia arriba, y el espíritu del animal, si baja a la tierra?”
Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
22 Por eso he visto que no hay nada mejor que el hombre se alegre de sus obras, pues esa es su parte; porque ¿quién puede hacerle ver lo que será después de él?
Wherefore I perceive that [there is] nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that [is] his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
