Eclesiastés 10
1 Las moscas muertas hacen que el aceite del perfumista produzca un mal olor; así que un poco de locura supera la sabiduría y el honor.
Dying flies spoil the sweetness of the ointment. Wisdom and glory is more precious than a small and shortlived folly.
2 El corazón del hombre sabio está a su derecha, sino el corazón de un necio a su izquierda.
The heart of a wise man is in his right hand, and the heart of a fool is in his left hand.
3 También cuando el necio va por el camino, le falla el entendimiento y dice a todos que es un necio.
Yea, and the fool when he walketh in the way, whereas be himself is a fool, esteemeth all men fools.
4 Si el espíritu del gobernante se levanta contra ti, no dejes tu lugar; porque la mansedumbre hace descansar las grandes ofensas.
If the spirit of him that hath power, ascend upon thee, leave not thy place: because care will make the greatest sins to cease.
5 Hay un mal que he visto bajo el sol, la clase de error que procede del gobernante.
There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as it were by an error proceeding from the face of the prince:
6 La insensatez está puesta en gran dignidad, y los ricos se sientan en un lugar bajo.
A fool set in high dignity, and the rich sitting beneath.
7 He visto siervos sobre caballos, y príncipes que caminan como siervos sobre la tierra.
I have seen servants upon horses: and princes walking on the ground as servants.
8 El que cava una fosa puede caer en ella; y el que rompe un muro puede ser mordido por una serpiente.
He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that breaketh a hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
9 El que talla piedras puede ser herido por ellas. El que parte la madera puede peligrar con ella.
He that removeth stones, shall be hurt by them: and he that cutteth trees, shall be wounded by them.
10 Si el hacha está desafilada y uno no afila el filo, debe usar más fuerza; pero la habilidad trae el éxito.
If the iron be blunt, and be not as before, but be made blunt, with much labour it shall be sharpened: and after industry shall follow wisdom.
11 Si la serpiente muerde antes de ser encantada, entonces no hay beneficio para la lengua del encantador.
If a serpent bite in silence, he is nothing better that backbiteth secretly.
12 Las palabras de la boca del sabio son graciosas; pero al necio se lo tragan sus propios labios.
The words of the mouth of a wise man are grace: but the lips of a fool shall throw him down headlong.
13 El principio de las palabras de su boca es necedad; y el fin de su charla, locura maligna.
The beginning of his words is folly, and the end of his talk is a mischievous error.
14 El necio también multiplica las palabras. El hombre no sabe lo que va a ser; y lo que va a ser después de él, ¿quién se lo puede decir?
A fool multiplieth words. A man cannot tell what hath been before him: and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
15 El trabajo de los necios cansa a cada uno de ellos, pues no sabe cómo ir a la ciudad.
The labour of fools shall afflict them that know not bow to go to the city.
16 Ay de ti, tierra, cuando tu rey es un niño, ¡y tus príncipes comen por la mañana!
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and when the princes eat in the morning.
17 Feliz eres, tierra, cuando tu rey es hijo de nobles, y tus príncipes comen a su debido tiempo, ¡para la fuerza, y no para la embriaguez!
Blessed is the land, whose king is noble, and whose princes eat in due season for refreshment, and not for riotousness.
18 Por pereza se hunde el techo; y por la ociosidad de las manos la casa gotea.
By slothfulness a building shall be brought down, and through the weakness of hands, the house shall drop through.
19 Se hace una fiesta para reír, y el vino alegra la vida; y el dinero es la respuesta para todas las cosas.
For laughter they make bread, and wine that the living may feast: and all things obey money.
20 No maldigas al rey, no, no en tus pensamientos; y no maldigas a los ricos en tu habitación, porque un pájaro del cielo puede llevar tu voz, y lo que tiene alas puede contar el asunto.
Detract not the king, no not in thy thought; and speak not evil of the rich man in thy private chamber: because even the birds of the air will carry thy voice, and he that hath wings will tell what thou hast said.
